Looks like a second grader found a pair of scissors.

Honestly, the Doom pic wasn't as upsetting as it was confusing. I don't know the context of the scene or what kind of lighting, filtering or special effects will be added in that scene. I don't know if that will be the same version of the suit used for the entire film. Costuming, props and makeup applications are created to look a certain way in the final film. So, I'll reserve judgment till then... or at least a promotional image or trailer!

I was using the same excuse for Robocop and we know how that turned out. You're in denial

There aren't enough :whatever: emoticons in the world for this.

Seriously, Michael B. Jordan is going to be great in this role. There are plenty of things about this production worth being concerned about. His casting ain't one of them.
Entirely agreed.
Don't be bringing me into your stupid song thing. I want nothing associated with any of your 'creativity'
If Johnny Storm is not defined by being white, why the hell has he been drawn as a white male for the past 50 years?

Honestly, they look like the guys from Guardians of the Galaxy.

And like I said before, it is entirely possible Doom will be touched up in post to appear more metallic, the same way Colossus from the X-Movies was.

The thing about colossus is he's already silver, and the silver surfer was already silver as well. Doom doesn't look silver, metallic, or even gray. I'm not saying its not possible he'll be touched up in post, im not expecting this miraculous 360 in appearance.

And technically, Doom's costume(comics) is already silver, aside from the green hooded/caped tunic.
And the quality of the pic isn't good enough to see if it's silver, metallic, or gray. I'm still looking, but there's been set pics of Cudmore as Colossus in X3, where his arm pieces looked like the ugliest, dull gray and it wasn't the finished result.

I was wrong. What comic series was that?:doh:

EDIT: Looked it up, that's from the manga-verse. Does that even count? That's a totally different character to Johnny Storm in terms of personality and what not.

Colossus still looked awful in X-3 even with VFX added in. You know what they say, you can't polish a turd.:oldrazz:

Marvel's Mangaverse. Series went on for a couple of years.

Eh, I didn't mind his look that much, but he definitely looked better in X2 and DoFP.

I'm also personally not a fan of the apparent Ultimate Doom as the reference for the costume, but it's been said many a time that this movie is highly based of the Ultimate-verse. People don't have to like it, I'm personally ambivalent to it, but I don't understand these complaints about a movie that has been confirmed to be mostly Ultimate-based has Ultimate-based designs, writing, etc. leaked/confirmed.

Never heard of it until you brought it to my attention. Was it any good?

His X-2 look was the best but the DOFP one was more accurate sans the colour of the hair.

Because the UFF were terrible imo, I didn't like them at all. They're just too inferior to the 616 versions of the characters. It was such a step down really, that;s why you're hearing all these complaints. It's simply because the UFF were not good.

Except as I kept reiterating, the leaked design doesn't bear a resemblance to the Ultimate design (which was still reminiscent of the classic design and other variants) beyond a superficial sense. Hell, it doesn't even have the goat legs, the one element unique to the Ultimate design.

Honestly, it's like some people just use "Ultimate" as a catch-on for "different", regardless of whether or not it actually captured the Ultimate aesthetic.

^^That. Even the mask Doom wears in the Ultimates is very similar to the one he wears in the 616 universe. That interpretation of Doom was horrible though (the UFF one).

It was an interesting take. I personally liked a power amplifier thing they used in the Manga. It starts off as the devices actually being the power sources, but in passing the Human Torch states it starts feeling more like the power was coming from her, not the pack. It changes a lot of the characters attitudes as well, yet they kept the overall rebelliousness of Torch despite changing her gender. Oh, she is also only half-sisters with Sioux(Sue) in it; the same way Jordan can entirely be half-brother to Kate Mara. :oldrazz:

Yeah, I'm still undecided which of the two look best to me.

Oh I entirely agree. I think Spider-Man is the only character the Ultimate-verse did not completely butcher or write horribly. I mean I have a couple of dislikes in his series, but they're nothing compared to the b.s. of Ultimate X-Men, the Ultimates, and Ultimate Fantastic Four.

And I understand people's complaints, but it's not like they're going to stop at this point in time on their plan. Fox is always going to make a Fantastic Four movie in order to keep the rights and as long as they make them more money. You want Fox to hear you, let it show at the box office.

Except for the fact that it does. The hooded cape being the overall only green fabric, the fully metal body and mask. The only thing they got rid of is goat legs(most likely).

Or maybe those people are just smart enough to realize that while something may not be a carbon copy from the comic, it can be a clear influence.......

Eh, the mask's look change from artist to artist. Personally I like the movie mask from what we can see. It looks like a Death Eater mask from the Harry Potter series.
Um, no? I'm not in denial, I just have a very basic understanding of the film-making process.
Not many posters here do apparently.

I actually liked Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimate Spider-Man. At least the earlier issues. But Ultimate Fantastic Four was complete junk from the word go.

Thanks. Might give it a read eventually. Right now I'm trying read the more cosmic side of Marvel ever since I watched GOTG. been trying to catch up on that front.

Yeah, I'm still undecided which of the two look best to me.

If I had to chose I'd go with his X-2 look.:yay:

I gave up on the Ultimates apart from Spidey and some Avengers stuff. The rest was b.s especially with the X-Men and FF. The main comic book properties I've read since I was a kid was Iron man, Spider-Man, X-Men and The Fantastic four and Superman. Avengers didn't read too much of them. Only started picking em up after the film came out, same goes for Thor.:oldrazz:

If positive things were coming out and it was shown that genuine care was being shown into the production of this film, i don't think there would be much uproar. It doesn't help either that Fox gave us those awful previous FF films. Seriously, I've never seen so much negativity against a CBM before. This says a lot really. I have a feeling that's going to be the case with this film. I don't think it's going to do particularly well at the B.O. Just a feeling I have.

But it still remains consistent and you can tell, oh yeah that Dr Doom alright. All I can see from the leaked pic is a Dark Elf reject. You can't even recognise it as Doom either. If I wasn't told that it was Doom for the FF reboot, honestly speaking I wouldn't even know it was him. It's that bad.:csad:

After the Wanda and Pietro 'shenanigans', that completely turned me off Ultimate X-Men. Quick question, what universe did House Of M occur? That's another Comic series I didn't like. I read that when I was like 11/12 years old. Haven't read it in a while.

Not many posters here do apparently.

So it seems! Either this movie will help them understand or justify - in their minds - their rash judgments if he does wind up looking awful. It could go either way at this point. It's impossible to tell. But, in the meantime, they could look up other examples (like yours with Colossus) of characters looking far better in the final film to see the validity of our argument. Hell, there's examples all over beloved fiction/comic/superhero adaptations!

BvS is way past this movie in overall negativity. There were a half million signatures on change.org to remove Ben Afleck. Not to mention every choice afterward from Jesse Esineberg, Gal Gadot and etc. I haven't been to that thread in a while because the bickering had become obnoxious. I imagine all is forgiven after that SDCC teaser. Which is my feeling on this movie once a trailer or teaser hits.

After Transformers and TMNT I don't think anyone should speculate on the success of a movie prior to it's release. Those movies got bad reviews hated by fans while in production then came out and made a **** load of money.

Which is kind of ridiculous since that teaser showed next-to-nothing except the Bat Armor. This (and many similar occurrences before it) lead me to believe that people (perhaps unconsciously) think that an overwhelming swell of negativity will lead to official footage or material. And that typically leads to an overwhelming swell of positivity. Folks tend to be happy when they get what they think they deserve when they think they deserve it... even if it hardly varies from the stuff they have read or seen before it.

Agreed. IF that is his true final look (allowing for the possibility it might not be) then the new Doom fails the most basic acid test imo: You need to know its meant to be Doom to even recognise it's meant to be Doom.

That's an extra-ordinary fail imo for a character who has inherent iconic features that are not that hard to get right. Hell, even Corman on a shoe string budget managed to pass that basic acid test. Looked cheap as chips but at least he made the friggin effort. Story put him in duff coat/suit thing, but you could still recognise it was Doom.

Seriously, if the supporters here can forget for a minute they know this film is being made, and they just happened upon that photo without knowing what it was from at all.

Can anyone honestly say they'd think "Oh hell yeah, that's Doctor Doom!"

Personally, I can honestly say I would not.
