Quite honestly, Rise of the Silver Surfer would've been an awesome movie...if they just...FREAKING...GOT GALACTUS RIGHT!!!!!! That's ALL they had to do!! Silver Surfer was perfect, the ominous build up to Galactus was done well, you really got this feeling that this powerful force was coming to wreck s*** and then.....a freaking cloud. Like COME ON man! How did they possibly think that was ok??

This movie is gonna bring all the bandwagons once the trailer drops. Im calling it now!

I've said it for a while now. Once the trailer drops you won't believe how many fans this film will suddenly have. It's the nature of the internet beast.

Posted this in one of the other threads, but this guy apparently saw the trailer. A few months back he posted leaked pics from the Terminator Genisys and Chappie trailers before they were released, btw.

Sorry, but RotSS already taught me a lesson about getting duped into watching a bad movie by a great trailer.

For everyone saying that the only "true version of the FF is the one that's based on the Lee/Kirby run and it all has to be lighthearted pulp sci-fi, anything else isn't comic accurate" I really hope that the sequel goes even darker. I want to see Annihilus played as a straight up horror movie monster who kills Johnny Storm and causes Sue to miscarry simply because those types of elements don't fit the FF at all and every fan will hate it.

I can think of one fan it isn't going to have.
Make that two.

This is a cheap, one-off rights grab. There won't be a sequel.

Brilliant. Are you Mark Millar? All you need is ****ing Thing turning cannibal and eating somebody.

Actually, that's John Byrne and Jonathan Hickman. Both of those stories happened in the 616 universe from two runs considered to be the best that the FF have ever had. This just goes to show that people hating the tone of the film as not being the, "real" FF didn't read enough of the comics in the first place.

I didn't think about Byrne's run. I doubt you'll find many haters though.

frankly your statement doesn't make much sense to me.

We get dust storms a lot in the summer here in Arizona, and every time one of those giant storm clouds is rolling up my friends and I will say something like "Here comes Galactus, aw jeez."

My point is, I'd be much happier if poop-cloud Galactus didn't exist so I didn't have to think of it every time a dust storm rolls around.

Good job.

My point is that there are darker FF stories which are still well-regarded.

Case in point, this is the 616 Human Torch, not fan art, not Ultimate.

And Ultimate FF was a critical and sales success back in the 2000s. What exactly was so bad about it?

Well, you're also talking about introducing the general audience to the character. Those stories are particularly powerful because they're the exceptions. But you have to introduce the baseline first. People have to know what the characters are normally like before you throw a curveball at them.

A good looking trailer is just a good looking trailer. That goes for films I'm anticipating as well. I'm not going to be hoping on any bandwagon until I see that the majority of reviews for the film are good and even then I won't really be on the bandwagon until I actually see the film and enjoy it.

I don't want a bad film, I do hope that a good film was somehow made.

Everything I've heard about this movie sounds... bizarre. But, there's a part of me that really wants it to surprise me.

This is the same type of argument used to defend neck-snapping Supes in Man of Steel. Though Superman may have killed in the comics, the behavior is an abberation. Reintroducing audiences to a grim, gritty, lo-fi version of the FF when those stories are either non existant or atypical is foolish.

I enjoyed reading about the 50s Avengers team in "What If" and Avengers Forever, but I don't think Marvel will be rolling out the Human Robot, Venus, Gorilla Man, Marvel Boy and 3D Man after the contracts of the Big 3 expire.

I don't think so. I think it will be as polarizing then as it is now.

Maybe moreso.

Over 50 + years you're going to have all kinds of stories and variations, but there's a basic core that defines characters like the Fantastic Four.

Things like "Ultimate Fantastic Four" are aberrations. They don't show the Fantastic Four and the elements that made them popular. Ultimate Fantastic Four is no better than 1000 other unknown comic books that have come and gone without being noticed because they weren't special. The only reason anybody bought Ultimate Fantastic Four was because it featured the Fantastic Four name and stood on the shoulders of giants.

The real Fantastic Four is special and a film based on them should represent their unique characteristics and the things that made them classic, genre defining characters.

Not the boring crap we got in Ultimate Fantastic Four.

Bingo.

I seriously don't get why these directors want to change, and continue to change, these characters when we've never gotten a true translation of them as they originally were.

You can't make an alt take if youve never presented the original.

I need to see what this CG Ben Grimm looks like. IF they nail it, I will be considerably more interested.

:cmad: :csad: :argh: :waa::sbr: And I was looking forward to a big screen team up of Gorilla Man, 3D Man and Human Robot to rival the Avengers.
