Game of Thrones - HBO part 2 - Part 8

I think part of the problem with people getting worked up about this series is that they view it as a traditional fantasy series, when it is really more of a gangster series set in a fantasy setting. It is more Boardwalk Empire than Lord of the Rings.

Of course, real history is filled with this sort of thing as well.

It reminded me of a Godfather style mob hit. Get your rival family in one place and whack them :oldrazz:

Okay, but my point is that morality is definitely not as black and white as some of you perceive it. The Starks have done some pretty crappy things as well.

Yean, it's not black and white but isn't it Westerosi Law to execute deserters no matter what? Poor guy - it wasn't his fault but it's still the law. Whereas with Walder Frey, that definitely wasn't lawful, no matter what word Robb broke. Both acts, Ned's and Walder's, were brutal, but the latter was more brutal and lawless.

I mean, there has to be consequences for what Walder did. I don't think many Northerners would attend any of his weddings now and may even go against him.

[BLACKOUT]Joffery's death[/BLACKOUT] seems to be the perfect season finale, IMO. It's a massive event, one that affects the plot for every character, even more so than the Red Wedding. We don't have enough time, IMO to try and tackle the [BLACKOUT]Wall siege [/BLACKOUT], especially since we need to see repercussions of a [BLACKOUT]Jon and Sam returning to the wall, Dany discovering the traitors in her camp,[/BLACKOUT] as well as the aftermath of the Red Wedding; and I'd rather we not get into a pattern of ending the seasons with big battles.

I say, we deal with the next wedding and see what happens with Jon, Sam, and Dany's stories. We can close the season with a montage (gonna have a montage!) of:

Joffery drinking the poison, the court exploding into disarray as he dies while Ceresi balls her eyes out (in stark contrast to Cat's stone faced greeting of death). Show all this while cutting back and forth with the Knights Watch fighting a small first wave of wildlings (being sure to show Ygritte's death). The season can end with the Knights Watch thinking they've won the day, only to peer over the wall and see a massive force of wildlings with mammoths and giants approaching. This will make sure fans come back for more next season to find out who killed Joffery and to see if Jon and the watch can survive the coming battle.

Yes, the punishment for desertion from the Night's Watch is death. If one wants to find some fault with Eddard it's that he takes honor too far. He'd rather see the realm go to war than to handle the situation with the heir to the thrown in an incorrect, but peaceful, way (but of course honor is the foundation of that society). But that's the best thing about the characters in this story. No one is wholly good or bad.

As for what Walder did, he broke all kinds of laws and customs. The part they showed in the beginning with the bread and salt refers to the sacred oath of hospitality. That's just not something people break in that society. And that's of course not even touching on the other parts of the betrayal and murder.

Am I the only one who thought this moment was forced? She sent three guys to storm the castle and now there's two. Why shouldn't she ask about the third guy? If Grey Worm and Daario came back and Jorah was lagging behind with the banner, she would've asked about him. Why's he gotta take it so personally??
Because Jorah is head over heels in love with her, and she completely ignores caring about the condition he is in, and immediately asks about the "new guy".

I also took it as he was shell shocked that the plan worked, as well as feeling the pain of knowing that he just helped Daario look even more awesome in Dany's eyes...almost as if he would rather fail and die than see someone else take his place.

Question for the book readers: Is there going to be an epic battle such as Blackwater?

This was amazing:

There IS another massive battle, but I don't think there's enough time to set it up and show all of it, as well as everything else that needs to be taken care of before this season ends.

D&D have said that there is an upcoming battle that will be bigger than Blackwater. We book readers know which one it is.

Book spoilers and speculation of when things happen on the show.
I don't think the "Purple Wedding" will be this season. I think they will spend most of the next episode on the outcome of the Red Wedding, Daenerys will become "Mhysa", the smaller battle at Castle Black, and I think that the final scene will be Beric breathing life into Catelyn, giving us Lady Stoneheart.

I think the royal wedding will have to take up too much time to really give breathing space for what's already happened. It would be good to give the viewers the death of Joffrey but I think they'll have to do with Lady Stoneheart as promise of the future. When it comes to the siege on the Wall I'm quite sure they will use that as episode 9 next season.

This reminds me of the Simpsons episode when Bart was replaying the footage of Lisa mentioning to Ralph that she didn't like him and that she only gave a Valentine's card to him because no one else did. You could actually see the moment his heart break. :funny:

So sad yet so hilarious. :lmao:

Ygritte had a similar reaction when Jon Snow left too.

Even then i mean i remember the show was actually sold by some at one point as "the sopranos meets the lord of the rings", which i thought sounded awesome.

If anything it's more gritty real world historical medieval politics meets fantasy elements.

There won't be any more [BLACKOUT]battles[/BLACKOUT] next episode.
They are casting for
The Magnar of Thenn right now so the attack on Castle Black won't be till next season. Along with the massive battle at the Wall. Also Joffery's Wedding is next season. They are casting Mace Tyrell and the Red Viper as well (both are at that wedding).

Please give out more details about this battle. What makes it more epic than Blackwater? When do you think they will make it? Season four or Five?

And [BLACKOUT]who kills Joffrey? I don't want to know where or how, but who?[/BLACKOUT]

Game of Thrones' Michelle Fairley Suits Up
BY KIMBERLY ROOTS

Michelle Fairley‘s take-charge new role stands in stark comparison to her old one.

Fairley will join USA Network’s Suits in its upcoming third season, EW.com reports.

She will recur as British oil tycoon Ava Hessington, who needs Harvey’s help to fight a lawsuit that endangers her family business.

Fairley debuts on Suits‘ July 16 season premiere.
Hmmm...

Maybe this season will end with Bran meeting Coldhands to keep in line with the supernatural finales

From the Suits Set

Funny considering that Conleth Hill was also on the show. Maybe I should actually start watching.

It's not that I don't like it, I like that deaths in this show are real in a way. A reality of life is that not everyone will die in a blaze of glory, and not everyone gets what they deserve (Ned) or the closure/happiness that they need (Robb failing to avenge his father and continue the Stark line with Talisa). It's genius in a way because it makes the loss all the more devastating, and I'm pretty sure Martin just recently alluded to that in an interview.

I mean, I can think of countless situations in TV and movies where tragedy struck, but the blow was softened to a certain extent because they did something for the greater good. There's no such consolation with GoT, and again, it's a testament to the genius of Martin because no show or movie has ever had me as depressed as this. :oldrazz: The funniest thing about it all is that I wouldn't have even described Robb, Catelyn or Talisa as being anywhere near my favourite characters.

Good post.

I think it all comes back to this: "I try to make the readers feel they’ve lived the events of the book. Just as you grieve if a friend is killed, you should grieve if a fictional character is killed. You should care. If somebody dies and you just go get more popcorn, it’s a superficial experience isn’t it?"
