GRRM is doing the SDCC panel this year, is he not? If so, he better ****ing give a firm date for Winds of Winter.

Is he? I heard that they got someone else to moderate the panel this year.

He'll be on the panel however I wouldn't get your hopes up that he'll give a firm date for the next book. He's said he won't be doing the prediction thing again. The publishers (and maybe D&D) are probably the only ones he's even discussed that with.

Have you guys seen this? GRRM's original vision for the Iron Throne...

Freaking incredible

I would be afraid to sit on that thing. It looks like all those swords are about to come crashing down on his head. :woot:

Plus, it's Joffrey sitting there so I wouldn't mind :o

If the throne was like that no wonder the mad king was often called king staby

It would take me most of the day to even climb up those steps. :(

A king who's in a bad mood from having to climb a flight of stairs to sit in a rickety, uncomfortable throne is a terror to his people.

If that's not a quotation from Bronn, it should be.

No King should sit easily upon his throne.

Which is pretty much the point of it in the first place. It really represents how it must feel to be a king of The Seven Kingdoms.

Also, now that I'm almost done with A Storm of Swords, Season 4 is gonna be awesome. At least the first episode will be one hell of an opener if they stay true to the book's structure. I can see why they saved the wedding for this season.

I don't think they're going to start off with it, since they still have to introduce characters who are present at the wedding, like Mace Tyrell and Oberyn Martell. I'd say it will happen in the third episode, the fourth at the very latest.

Heres an interesting article about the two songs they've used on the show:

http://www.vulture.com/2013/07/game-of-thrones-behind-the-music.html

It explains that the choice to play the upbeat rock version of "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" immediately after [BLACKOUT]Jaime gets his hand chopped off[/BLACKOUT] was an homage to the end of "An American Werewolf In London" when they play "Blue Moon" over the end credits. Really has almost the same effect.

Too much, IMO. Though, the one in the series also seems like too little, now that I've seen that, so... :o

I wouldn't have been opposed to a healthy medium.

Other art of the Iron Throne

The last one was clearly more in line with the throne of the tv show.

I like those other two designs better, since they look more like fashioned objects rather than a loose collection of blades. It definitely does make me wish the show's throne was larger, though.

the stairs are no issue, Tywin can arrange to have him carried.

Supposed to be a thousand blades, those look well over a thousand.

If Tywin ever became king, he'd glare at the throne, then turn and glare at Pycelle. In six hours, the Acorn Stair Lift would be invented in Westeros.

To be fair, real-life thrones, including thrones that ruled a hell lot more than the **** hole that is Westeros, were fairly modest. Anyone seen King Edward's Chair?

Not much to look at.

"People have carved their names on it. It's held in place by a large rock."

Westeros was conquered because of the Targaryen's dragons. It deserves to have a throne that's badass.
