CWs Arrow Might One Day Include Justice League, Producers Tease
Arrow creators Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti might be keeping their superhero world grounded and contained for now, but they dont plan to have the new CW series stay that way forever.
Tonight well be two episodes deep in Season 1, but already weve met or been teased about a good number of characters from the DC Universe. The plan is to have that number increase as the seasons go on, the three executive producers explained in a new interview.
Were open to anything and everything; Im not entirely sure youll be seeing characters like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman because theyre much more fantastical and right now were focusing on Oliver Queen as being the only hero, Kreisberg told The Hollywood Reporter. That being said, were looking forward to bringing on other DC Comics characters and characters that people have never really seen before or lesser-known characters. Thats whats been fun for us; Superman will always get his due.
Well meet China White in tonights episode, and will soon encounter the Huntress, while Kreisberg also promises that Felicity Smoke will enter the Arrow ring further down the road. He goes on to say that he, Berlanti and Guggenheim are open to bringing the Justice League into the fold in some fashion, even if Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern and company arent seen on screen, THR writes.
Weve got a lot of different characters and then there are characters you may not recognize unless youre a diehard comic book fan, he said. One of the things weve done, mainly because were fans, is weve thrown in a lot of Easter eggs for the hardcore fans. If youre a big fan of the DC Comics universe, youll see a lot of familiar names and places: Big Belly Burger, which is a hamburger chain from the Superman comic books makes a regular appearance on our show and we have a Big Belly Burger franchise as one of our standing sets.
Guggenheim added that fans will still get to hear about characters from beyond Starling City in Arrow, even if they dont show up. He promised that there are references to places like Corto Maltese and Markovia, and that Metropolis and Gotham City still exist in this world.
I would listen and watch carefully if youre a comic book fan because some of the references are really subtle and will go past a lot of people, he teased.
Berlanti added, When we bring characters from the DC universe into the show, were careful about doing it right and having a reason to and not just doing it to say because we can bring in a specific character. As time goes on, hopefully well do some of the biggies.
