Don't get your hopes up for that. Imo, I'm fine with GL not being involved because I'm totally fine with the idea of Arrow being this very realistic take with no superhuman heroes or villains.
This is what I was expecting as well. It'd have the same sort of gritty realistic feel to it that's so popular these days, and even better because it'd be on TV and not a movie (and thus not a TDK-knock off or Iron Man hopeful). Sure you get more restrictions on TV but no one wants him to become the Punisher. It could very well be a really good look into how that sort of urban vigilante came about and go beyond its comic roots and embrace its pulp heritage.
Unfortunately, it seems that they really want to bring in as many superheroes heroes and villains as they can.
Well the thing said was ARROW is EMBRACING comic books while SMALLVILLE was embarrassed of it. When from what we know Arrow is AVOIDING it while SV always had super powered villains, and STARTED hero cameos from season 4 on up (not 8).
Did it shy away from being a superhero action show? Yes, because that's really what it wasn't about till the end. It was about Clark Kent growing up. But it DID embrace the world of comic books a lot more.
See, I'm a huge fan of SV and I was fine with it being a CK-centered show about teen angst and how he learns to cope and become a superhero. Rosenbaum's Lex as a pal of Superman when they were younger? That was BRILLIANT! And I agree that it embraced its comic roots much more -- this instance of Lex, the many coloured kryptonites, all of it just goes back to the Silver Age, an era of comics that I'm sure only the writers were aware of. Which meant they were in love with the characters themselves. They realised it rather well into the screen. The only issue I had with the show was that its quality of writing waned near the end. It wasn't because it was "comic-booky"
I mean hell, we're talking about a live-action show that gave us the JSA and a superhero team up of Superman, the Flash, Aquaman, and the Green Arrow wayy before Marvel came up with the Avengers. There's gotta be some credit to that from the fans.
I loved Hartley's GA - and him appearing as a regular near the end felt like reading an issue with a back-up feature after the main story.
i had a dream that hal jordan appeared in arrow but not as green lantern. I'll be cool with that
Well seeing as how the same writers and producers on GL are on this, with the same love for Gossip Girls (or is it women?) I wouldn't be surprised. If they do bring him on they should adapt the O'Neil/Adams issues to a tee. I'm sorry, anything else would be insulting.
A superhero show where Oliver and Hal talk about politics? SIGN ME ON.
The only risk all these cameos and appearances have, in my opinion, is that it shifts the attention from Oliver himself. I want to be excited, at least in season 1, to watch Ollie on the show, not Huntress. They already got Black Canary as a regular. That's fine since she's such an important character to him in the comics as well, but seriously? Crossovers
before establishing his stand-alone show? No WB. Just no.
Unless you want to make this your answer to Marvel's
Avengers and keep away from that rushed JLA project. Then I say. YAY WB. YAY.
