Hans Zimmer Scoring The Man of Steel - Part 2

I say Elfman's Spider-Man music is within the same ballpark of his Batman theme. Though it's probably too complicated for many to enjoy at the same level. But yes, music in movies tends to be more cookie-cutter than I want to admit.

Not even in the same neighborhood IMO. Elfman's Batman music has a powerful leit motiv that Spider-man totally lacks of. But Elfman's music worked well for the spider-films.

Ya I do have to say though I like parts of Elfman's SM theme it is very far from his iconic and classic Batman theme.

I much prefer Zimmer to Elfman, both in Batman score and in general.

Elfman's Spider-Man theme is perfect for a Spider-Man movie. Strong, acrobatic, epic, dynamic, sensitive, aggressive. Pretty much all the emotions.

Though I put MOS's theme right behind the Spider-Man theme in bringing out emotions and having a memorable quality.

Another special nod is the late Kamen's scores for Singer's X-men movies.

Another special nod is the late Kamen's scores for Singer's X-men movies.

Michael Kamen only scored the first X-Men film, and that was because Singer's usual guy John Ottman was off directing Urban Legends: Final Cut. Ottman gave the X-Men that signature theme in X2 (he was influenced by Kamen's work but didn't use any of his material)... which I'm positive he'll revisit in Days of Future Past.

Yeah, like Iron Man, the X-Men universe has had an identity crisis with different composers for each movie. I might be a bit more partial to John Powell's theme than Ottman's.

Man, can I echo how I'm distressed to not see this thing leaked yet? I've been listening to Flight nonstop because it's the only one on my iPhone and we're at the point where my 2 year old is humming the them, too.

Awesome that your two year old is starting to catch on to it! Maybe this will be as recognizable to them as the Williams' theme is to us. I find myself whistling the theme a lot when I'm at work or just doing things around the house, it's very infectious. It reminds me a big of Superman:TAS theme, not exactly of course just gives me the same vibes for some reason.

I am ready for this to leak, I keep checking iTunes hoping they've released at least another track we can download or listen to but nothing yet. It'd be something if they actually kept this one under wraps until the official release.

Spider-Man on film has been blessed musically, in my opinion. Elfman’s theme isn’t iconic but it’s very good. He has the better theme in comparison to Horner, but Horner bests Elfman in other areas, namely variety and emotion.

Their respective best cues:

Elfman: Main Title, Costume Montage, Revenge, City Montage, Parade Attack, MJ’s New Life/Spidus Interuptus, He’s Back, At Long Last Love, Farewell and End Credits.

Horner: Main Title – Young Peter, Becoming Spider-Man, Hunting for Information, The Briefcase, The Spider-Room, Secrets, The Equation, The Ganali Device, Peter’s Suspicions, I Can’t See You Anymore, Promises – End Credits.

Anyway...the wait is nearly over for this MOS score even if it doesn't leak.

I'm still kind of stunned this hasn't leaked yet. I think I had both TDK and TDKR scores a good 10 days before the release. I mean a friend of mine had them both, a friend, not me, friend.

Yeah, it's impressive how he can pick up a tune. For someone his age it's surprising how well he can match tones. Poor momma is upset that now she has two people running around the house humming super hero themes.

So, which one is the Love theme for Lois/Clark/Superman?

John William is pretty good at a love theme

Better than good, actually, these are LOVE THEME MASTERPIECES!!!

Same here for sure. I loved listening to the scores before both TDK and TDKR came out, it got me more excited to see the film....especially now that I get to see MOS at an advanced screening tomorrow, I would LOVE to drive in the car to the theater and listen to the score!

Elfman Batman theme >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Elfman Spidey theme.

And I'm not particularly fond of Elfman's Batman theme. I do worship his Catwoman theme from BR, though.

The best theme of that franchise, imo.

I wasn't a huge fan of his Spidey theme either, and I'm one of those weirdos who considers Horner's TASM theme to be a major upgrade.

I am of the opinion that Elfman's Batman score is superior to his Spider-Man score. I particularly love the score for Batman Returns.

So 6 days until release, and no leak.
Elfman Batman theme >>>>> Elfman Spidey theme.
What about James Horner Spidey theme? I personally HATE The Amazing Spider-Man soundtrack. Perfect exemple of self-plagiarism...
The whole score sounds like it belongs to a 80/90s movie. Horner just recycled music from his own previous works.

Same here, except for the main TASM theme. The rest of the music was far superior to me than Elfman's though.

Still better that whatever Elfman crapped out, imo. And I am aware that Horner is the epitome of self-plagiarism and non-progress.

The TASM score is fantastic. I listen to it quite a bit. The twinkling cue that pops up in 'The Briefcase' is excellent. I like them both, and aside from the main theme which is still quite good in my opinion, I find myself preferring it to Elfman.

But when it comes to superheroes, Zimmer is the man.

Not a fan of TASM's score at all, Elfman's spider-man theme is one i constantly hum, TASM's one definitely not.

I didn't really care for the scores to TASM, Avengers or this years IM3 I thought they we're all pretty lackluster. Thats the huge difference betweens Zimmer's Batman work and the more recent comic book film scores his just have something different it doesn't sound mediocre like the rest.

As for Elfman I will say again his work on the Burton Batman films has really yet to be reckoned with in my eyes in the more recent superhero films.
