Henry Cavill IS Superman: - - - - - Part 14

So I was wondering..

Cavill has said in many interviews that he has lost nearly all the mass he put on for MoS and that he looks nothing like he did in the shirtless scene.

But I am just curious, why wouldn't he try to maintain it??? He achieved one of the best physiques on screen and likely reached the full potential of his anatomy, and he did it through extreme dedication and hard work, he earned it.

I know its quite unrealistic to maintain the shape he was in for the shirtless scene year round, but surely he could at least stay in the same ballpark? Twight has said he had 3-4% bodyfat for that scene, so couldn't he stay around 10% bodyfat and do some maintenance lifting to stay that way??

As they say, its easier to stay on the mountain than to climb it, and seeing as he's destined to play Superman for a very long time hopefully, it really bothers me that he lost it all :/

Here's hoping that Cavill finds the motivation to climb that mountain again :)
Cause some people really don't give a crap if they're in shape when they're not working? :oldrazz:

I did read somewhere that Henry doesn't intend on letting himself completely go, unlike Christian Bale with his crazy yo-yoing. And Gerard Butler, who is a far cry from his 300 days. And um...Val Kilmer? :funny:

Henry still has a few MOS sequels to do, so hopefully it won't be as difficult for him next time if he's somewhat in shape. You can still see his pecs through his suits, so I'm guessing it's just some of the definition that he's missing. He certainly isn't close to his Tudors weight, you can see it in his face. Plus he could be harder on himself than other people would be. I certainly notice changes in my own body long before other people do. Same thing for almost everyone I know...

It's not easier to stay on the mountain, if your standard is Superman standard. It's very difficult to keep it up to have the muscles show THAT much. Some people exercise themselves sick year-round to look that way all the time. I call them insane. :oldrazz: Even bodybuilders look fat when they're not cutting. It's too unhealthy to look jacked all the time.

What he does with his body is his own business, I say.

Most actors who bulk up for their first superhero film usually do not maintain that physique in a sequel.

Hugh Jackman is the only one who has so far. In fact, he tends to look even more impressive with each appearance as Wolverine.

Can he play in every movie from now on? :awesome:

Haha of course it's his own business, I was just wondering what y'alls thoughts would be on this. Personally I think that, while yes he definitely shouldn't be expected to be THAT cut and defined year round, he could easily maintain his muscle mass through diet and maintenance lifting. I guess its different for him as an actor, as his physique is dependent on the role he is currently playing?

@hafizbat Cavill was not anywhere near 3% body-fat for his shirtless scene. Aside from that being near death, top bodybuilders who literally dehydrate themselves for days before competitions only usually get down to around 5% bodyfat minimum.

He was probably around 10% in that scene which is more than fine.

Of course even in that scene that wasn't a totally accurate representation of his "resting weight". For shirtless scenes actors get a "pump on" i.e lift heavy weights in short reps right before to engorge the muscles and help to exaggerate that "pumped-up" look.

I stopped watching after the second question because of how dumb it was. Most interviewers questions are boring to me anyhow.

Ugh I should have stopped too.
Henry obviously takes Superman very seriously, he's not gonna get on board with those stupid questions

It's not as easy for some people as it is for others. I have a coworker who's an effortlessly strong 210 lbs at 6'2". It's just the way he's built. He's currently not as defined as Henry was in MOS, but he could easily skip the gaining phase and go right to the cutting and he'd look great.

In the same vein, I'm a woman, and I'm effortlessly underweight. (I honestly think it disgusts some women how effortless it is for me.) It's just the way I'm built. Many women in Hollywood CAN get down to my BMI through insane dieting and exercise, but it's incredibly unhealthy for them, and unsustainable for the long-term.

I wouldn't assume it's "easy" for any person to get to or maintain a certain weight just because of how they looked once.

Geez, this interview is so awkward

Those guys are idiots :cmad::cmad:

Cavill's pretty green at this press thing and he hasn't really mastered the art of playing off the interviewer yet. It's obvious the guy was just trying to poke fun there and get silly/laid back responses and cavill sort of responded in the formal way you would to a newspaper or an actual journalists question.

I'm not blaming cavill he seems like a really decent guy, it's just that this isn't even that bad compared to many show-biz interviews and he'll get a lot more.

It's obvious by now that he is a guy who takes his work seriously and in general is just a serious guy. Nothing wrong with that, not everyone is jokey, jokey. And asking him if he got help on how to act as Superman and Clark Kent is just incredibly insulting.

See that's what I like about Cavill. He really does have this sincere earnest that I really dig about him. Months before the movie came out he stood out for 30 minutes or so giving autographs to people and just chilling with them.

He's a real person and I think all the cynical & hypocritical snide humor that is so popular nowadays doesn't work with him because it just doesn't fit with his personality and I completely get why he doesn't care for it or just doesn't acknowledge it.

I'll say this too and I don't know whether this will sound pretentious or not but I think a lot of people are just flat out jealous of him. There I said it.

Henry feels a need to correct people when he senses they're wrong (like at the NY premiere where he told the British hostess of the event that Andrew Garfield was, contrary to what she said, born in the US). He's very matter-of-fact. I'm like that myself, but it can rub people the wrong way because a lot of folks hate being corrected -- especially on national TV.

It wasn't just that it was the whole interview where the guy was throwing out to be fair inane questions but he did that to get inane/silly answers back that's what the show was about, obviously he seems like one of those annoying dj's there's thousands of out there.

I'm not blaming cavill at all but this is the world he's entered now and he's just got to kinda learn to go with the flow, don't bother with concise smart answers when the interviewer wants and is expecting inane BS.

Although this is probably why he's made a great superman, very clark kent-esque.

How dare Cavill intelligently answer an interviewer's questions! I'm kinda an anal person and will correct people as well on occasion.

And I'm not sticking up for him because he is hot, I just don't think that everyone should have to act the same during these interviews. He's not Adams or Crowe. He hasn't been rude or anything but he has never had this amount of attention on him, not everyone handles things the same way. I don't think he needs to if he doesn't want to but I'm sure he'll mellow out when he gets use to the attention.

Christian Bale doesn't respond well to those idiotic kind of questions either. In that regard both of them are perfect for their roles. Neither Superman or Batman respond well to dummies trying to get a rise out of them.

I disagree, Henry being green isn't the reason this interview went downhill, he's been doing this for many many years, sure, MoS is the one that's drawing more attention to him but he had a whole career before MoS and he's always been fine during the promotions. This was just a case of the guy acting like a *****ebag, and Henry not wanting to participate.

I play off people myself, if you're giving me garbage to work with i don't need to be trying to impress you with my intellect or what-not. You wan't smart answer ask smart questions.

The DJ was an idiot no doubt but as i said there are literally thousands of them out there and they make up like 80% of entertainment interviewers.

For henry's sake he's going to have to learn how to deal with them or we're going to have a 100 more "#awkward henry" interviews out there.

It sucks but that's how it is.

If giving concise smart answers is part of who he is, I say.. why not? Let the interviewer do the adapting for a change. And if not? Oh well. Life goes on.

Right, he shouldn't be punished for actually wanting to intelligently answer questions. Too many grown ass men act like children now, have things gotten so skewed that it's ridiculous that a 30 year old man is acting like an adult? I'm silly, I like silly and if you are silly be silly but not everyone is silly. As was pointed out, it's not like Bale and Leo and many other actors are super jokey, jokey when doing interviews. I think people just want him to be something he isn't for whatever reason.

Yeah, I was just pointing out why it went downhill. The guy obviously wasn't expecting to be corrected, and it hurt his ego (since he's still crying about it). I'm pretty matter-of-fact myself and although that might bug some people, I don't care.
