Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 4

I dont want Superman to be that big...

6'1", also 220, and very lean. It all depends how he carries the weight. He will be wearing spandex most likely so will he will have to work his legs and not just his upper body, so he will definitely not look too big at 220 lbs at 6'1".

That's a terrible example. I don't want Superman to look like a bodybuilder. Period. And I'm sure Cavill won't.

Clark's a farmboy. He should most definitely not look like a body builder. He needs to look big, but not like in the pictures that have been posted.

No more contacts period. After SR I have nightmares. Lol can't we be happy that hid eyes are really blue?

Routh's contacts were nothing compared to Jessica Alba's in ROTSS.

They give me nightmares.

Clark needs to be buff with muscle mass, but not ripped. From what Cavill said in an interview, that seems to be exactly what he's going for.

ok...one more time:

I really wouldn't be surprised if they enhance them in post here and there (this is Zack Snyder we're talking about, remember). Nothing drastic....just something subtle to enhance the blue and make them almost otherworldly. Naomi Watts in King Kong is a really good example of what I mean.

Why are you so convinced this is not going to happen.

You have a point there... (shutters) ugh.

as for size of Cavill...

This is just right...

forgive me for the Joe pic but I saw this at Barnes & Noble two days ago and thought it would be a good size for Henry C.

edit: btw I wanted to point out that just because he's raised on a farm doesn't mean he would have a body like a farm boy... He's Not Human... Every part of his body is enhanced by the power of the sun. I would imagine the fat cells in his body are minimal and muscle fibers enhanced, yes?

I don't understand. People want Superman to be done as he is in the comics. They want him to be 6'3" and they want him to have black hair, and they want blue eyes, and they want the jaw line, every detail from the comics. However, the feature that stands out the most about Superman is the one people seem to have the biggest issue with. Superman is drawn as a big guy and he is drawn very defined and cut. Alex Ross' Superman is a farm boy. This Superman would be a bodybuilder. The size of the bodybuilder would not be the issue, but the proportions and definition of Superman belong to a bodybuilder.

This

in human form would look like:

Notice the proportions of the shoulders to the waist. The size of the traps and chest muscles. Notice the narrow waists and defined mid-section and legs with the large defined calves. How could Superman NOT have the proportions of a bodybuilder if he were human? In fact, Steve Reeves at the bottom was 6'1" like Henry Cavill and was 216 lbs. Could someone here honestly tell me that I am wrong? That Steve Reeves does not have the perfect Superman body?

Someone tell me that is not the perfect Superman body.

The dude in the 3rd image has perfect physique for Superman. What I meant was I don't want the extremely huge, veiny look for Superman... but that dude is just right.

We get to see Cavill very soon. I think people will be happy. He already looked good in the airport pic.

Yup, I'm a big fan of Steve Reeves as a bodybuilder and I think he's a good model for Superman's physique. He was from the days when bodybuilding was natural, all hard work, good nutrition and watching your proportions rather than just getting big.

Frank Zane's another good pick. Me, I like Clancy Ross, Reg park and David Draper.

Henry has hazel/light blue eyes it seems. That works. Wonder if they'll darken the blue with contacts?

As to the hair, I hated Routh's helmet hair look and, to be honest, they did that to Reeve in Superman 4. Didn't like it there either.

I'd be happy if they eased off on the slicked back hair look a bit. Given Henry's curly hair maybe they will go in that direction.

If they are going to do anything to his eye color, I hope they do it digitally. Routh's contacts in SR looked kind of creepy in all honesty, monstly because colored contacts put the eye color on the outside of the lens instead of behind it.

It is actually Steve Reeves in all the photos except for the top one which was Frank Zane, also a perfect Superman body.

People that don't know about bodybuilding think bodybuilders only look like Ronnie Coleman, and thats not true.

Henry Cavill Brazil has two new shots oh HC possibly from "Cold light of day" since they appear to be of him an a plaza type atmosphere in Spain. Not new, as in the LAX shots, but nice. Still waiting for new new shots, though I am starting to wonder if HC is in Utah or Colorado, or where ever the training place is for those tough trainers.

it's quite easy to hide ur physique under the suit.
i watched dylan dog.
routh is BIG... but he looks just regular / normal in suit.

Never liked the bodybuilder look. Their huge physiques always make their hands look small. Superman should have big hands. And it's not realistic for an actor anyway. Plus, if he gets too thick, he's going to look shorter, and Cavill really can't afford that. You really just want him to look fit and strong. Farm boy strong. Now, that means different things to different people, but I think something like Stallone in Rocky would be fine. Bigger, maybe, to counter the slimming effect of the suit. Superman doesn't really spend too much time shirtless though.

I don't think he needs to be as ripped as Joe Manganiello is in this picture. He will be in spandex, he could be the most ripped guy in the universe, but once that spandex goes on it will take away some of that physique.

The most important thing I feel is that he builds a good solid frame for spandex. Things like 'big' bicep/tricep muscles, shoulder, traps, & chest muscles will make him look like a tank.

Personally I feel Tom Welling's physique from anything from about season 4 - 9 of Smallville is ideal. Looks like the type of physique that someone working on a farm could achieve in the sense that he wasn't as ripped as Joe Manganiello is above, however he has a muscular frame that would look the part in spandex.

Considering the shape Cavill looks in, in Immortals & the fact hes training with the guys that trained Gerard Butler for 300 + he already looked pretty buff in those pictures of him at the airport(?) or wherever from a few months ago, I expect him to physically look the part.

Man Reeve was such a stud, dam one and only Superman.

Funnilly enough, that video only reaffirms my view that Reeve in S: TM and S:II and Routh in SR were relatively similiar, with Reeve winning it on definition but Routh slightly shading it in size.

It wasn't until Superman III that Chris got really big, and in my opinion, was in the best 'Superman shape' ever.

Define 'bodybuilder look'. Because Steve Reeves was a bodybuilder and his physique doesn't make his hands look small.

It's just another sneer at bodybuilders from someone who knows precious little about the sport.

I was referring to the three or four black-and-whites earlier in the thread (this page or the last). Frank Zane and Steve Reeves. Their upper bodies, and especially their upper arms, make their hands look smaller. It's just an aesthetic quibble. I think big hands are more evocative - if understatedly so - of strength.

LOL, condescending comic book nerds. I love the internet. :awesome:

Reeves' hands, in my opinion, don't look terribly small in proportion to the rest of his physique. And Zane, I think, just has really small hands in general. Kind of a nitpicky thing to focus on anyway (for an upcoming Superman movie).

That's what we're here for. :awesome:
