Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 7

But he's not as massive, brutish looking or neanderthal-like as Savage. I could see Clancy Brown or Joe Manganiello playing the part though.

Ok, I see. You are right.

Well, it's obvious now that Cavill has the chance of being the best Superman so far depending on the writing. Too bad about the costume, though.
The costume is bad ass, fortunately. Visually this movie will be stunning. It's Snyder, after all. The actors we know are all fantastic. The story and writing will have to be bizarrely terrible for this movie to be bad.

I appreciate your comments, but I think you mistook me for implying that Cavill's physique rivals Steve Reeves', back when he was in his Mr. Universe prime.

I just meant that with the beard and herculean appearance he looked like Steve in his prime, back when he was known for playing Hercules.

I don't know about anyone else, but I definitely see a resemblance here.

Yip, no problem with that at all. What he's done with his body in such a short time is nothing short of miraculous.

I wonder if they will bring the steve reeves physically to the roles. I mean that almost the sole reason I used to watch those herculean films.

I got home from work this morning and was flipping through the channels and saw the new pics on TV. I love that even these pics are making the rounds all over the place. But it's as it should be... he's Superman

I would HOPE that Goyer and Nolan are incapable of delivering a bizarrely terrible script... but nothing is impossible I suppose :(

I love it too. It's not out till 2013 and there's already buzz in the media about it. Hopefully that means that by the time it comes out, the GA will very much know about it and be curious enough about it to go and see it :D

I don’t mean to sound picky but I am a little puzzled as to why they didn’t get Cavill to wax. It would have made him look more impressive. Again it might have something to do with attempting to portray masculinity.

I think it'd look weird if he was waxed, with the beard and all.

Besides, chest hair is totally hot again! :p

The vast majority of men are not totally hairless, they will have some body hair somewhere in varying degrees. Why would Superman be any different? I think it would look a little unnatural if he was totally waxed and smooth. They're not trying to portray a bodybuilder on screen.

Thor had a beard and was waxed, so was bats. Cap was waxed and Parker as well. I don't think the producers are afraid of any sort of "unnatural" look.

I personally think it has something to do with Snyders comment on a manly superman. And technically speaking, yes their might be an argument made for why a kryptonian wouldn't have chest hair if they went that direction.

Yeah... But Thor looked weird to me :p

Seriously, wouldn't you imagine he would have a hairy chest?

It works for Cap because he's not naturally all that 'manly' before the transformation, and neither is Peter Parker. And Peter is a high school boy, it's just makes more sense for him to be smooth.

And yeah, it's obviously about being more manly. But it's working for me, and I think it suits Henry better than a clean shaven waxed look would.

I think because it would seem silly. Even Pro bodybuilders don't wax/shave year round. Only when close to a contest or some event they are paid to exhibit the physique.

Pro Wrestlers often do this, for the same reason.

Superman does not do those things, so he has no reason to get rid of his chest hair, and as said I too agree it makes him look more masculine/rugged.

I don't agree that it would make him look more impressive. I mean he's much less hairy than Hugh Jackman. Cavill probably has just the right amount of body hair. Makes him look old fashioned and manly without getting in the way of showing his physique. Besides Superman is typically portrayed as having chest hair as far as I know.

Seriously think chest hair is going to start trending again in films after MOS comes out.

Henry Cavill doesn't looks like he is defining what a man should look like :D

Tom Welling was hairless, but then he was meant to be playing a teen/young man most of the time. Dean Cain and Brandon Routh were also hairless, and I always thought it detracted slightly from their masculinity. But then again, the late 90s and early 00s were popular times for the metrosexual look for men, and it was cool to be smooth.

Nevertheless, I'm glad to see Snyder taking a return to form. When I think of comic book Superman, I picture him as having a bit of chest hair, wavy head hair, and occasionally stubble. Not smooth and preened all the time, with perfectly gelled hair. Say what you like about stereotypes, but like it or hate it ..................... a little body hair (not excessive) does add to the masculinity.

as long as Lois Lane doesn't have chest hair, i'm golden

It's good to see chest hair.

What is that Japanese proverb Connery says?
