Blade Runner is one of Nolan's favorite movies, and its rather evident in Batman Begins. The Narrows is designed after downtown Los Angeles in Blade Runner, the grappling gun looks a lot like the gun Deckard uses in the movie, and he casted Rutger Hauer as Earle, who of course stars as Roy Batty in Blade Runner. Earle didn't serve much of a point in Batman Begins after that.

I wouldn't mind if Mr. Earle returned, so long as it's the same actor. As much as I loved The Dark Knight, it was distracting to see Rachel Dawes portrayed by a different actress. I have nothing against movie-exclusive characters, but in my opinion they are not essential enough to warrant being recast.

There's no more purpose for Mr Earle. He doesn't need to return at all.

I agree. There is no reason for bringing me back. Also, it would be a ridicule for the character.

Why?

What would be the point? Earle was a relatively pointless cliche of a character who served to create some minor, easily overcomable conflict for Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprises. He was an evil 80's villain, the kind you find in Adam Sandler movies. What would be the point of bringing him back now?

Any reason anyone has come up for bringing him back would be better filled with an actual character from the comics.

I think that the batmobile also looks like a vehicle in Blade runner as well. With the front axle being like a couple of protruding robotic hands and all...

He could be sucked into a time vortex, landing in medieval times, impregnate one of Bruce Wayne's ancestors in Scotland and technically become his grand-grand-...-grand-father just to return in the 21 century to see that Bruce Wayne is suffering from leukemia and needs a transplantation... Ok, I see a lot of negativity about this, mostly comments about his story being over or his purpose was used up. For me, I guess it comes back to - what was the purpose of having him in the first place? Trivial plot distraction? Comic foil for Morgan Freeman, paying Rutger Hauer to star in your film just for a one-liner? What was his story contribution - trying to maintain control over Wayne Enterprises? I mean so what? Why would Batman care? He was able to obtain his costumes, tumblers, and other gear while Earle was running things, why would he want to complicate the saving of Gotham by adding having to run a multibillion Corporation during the day? Certainly not so he can live the high life - seems to me that in all the storylines I have ever seen Wayne actually despises the high life, yet he would intentionally put himself into a position where he is "forced" to live it?
And the story could have certainly stood on it's own without the drama - Wayne is gone, he comes back, Earle steps down - I mean what would have been different in that scenario except the "memo" line? It would have all turned out the same.
So unless the great talented Nolan god is prone to filling his movies with useless trivial crap just to add to the movie length there might be something more to this.

Umm, yes, or he could be a mutant half crocodile man, or a cyrogenically frozen person who lives on anyway, or a small fat man that is worshipped by penguins, or some girl that is brought back to life by cats licking her, or some other ridiculous **** instead of the normal place Gotham is.

I say no because there wouldn't be a good reason for his character to come back not to mention as others have said, he's a typical evil corporate cliche villian.

Also, as Mr. Earl himself might say..."Batman Begins was four years ago Fredericks!"

Lets move on to some villians from the comics for the next film.

he was a good character to have in the first film but Bruce already out smarted him once. What else does he have to do, fire Mr. Earle again? Don't get me wrong the actor is great. LoL! I loved him in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hey while we're at it, let's have Luke Perry as the Joker, Kristy Swanson as Rachel from the dead and Donald Sutherland as Mr. Freeze!

Fredericks was pretty cool and you could tell he had the Wayne families back. Now that one *****e with the glasses that was basically the brown nose to Mr. Earle I'm glad he didn't return.

Earle was taking over his company. He had him declared dead. Nolan had to do something with the company. Its part of Bruce Wayne's life isnt it? At least Nolan doesnt have Bruce in the suit all the time renouncing his life as Bruce Wayne like some hack writers do. I am glad that he takes the time and care to show every aspect of Bruce's life. Running a huge corporation through Fox doesnt give for a lot of interesting things to show in the movie, and yet Nolan manages to find something to put it there. He even did it in TDK with Lau. He tied Lau's subplot, with showing Bruce attending a business meeting and showing Batman take a toll on Bruce's life (him sleeping during the meeting). Nolan is in the details...

I liked him a lot. Not only did he feel he had to respect Thomas Wayne's legacy but you can see that he is happy and relieved when Bruce interrupts the meeting asking for a job in applied sciences. He then chastises him for being drunk at the party, showing that he cares. It would be great to have him back, even for a few lines, showing support and congratulating Bruce for the way he and Fox run the enterprises.
