Just found a very interesting essay about the movie.
Batman v Superman: the modern revenge tragedy.
Holy mother of God.....or should I say Holy Martha.
MIND = BLOWN
THANK YOU HILDENBURG!!! Thank you so damn much!!
I'm so happy right now. I've just finished reading that article (while listening to the BVS soundtrack on a loop, haha) and I strongly feel that the author should get an award for her service to the fans!
I have no words. That may be the most beautiful piece of analysis on a movie that I have ever read!
EVERYONE should read that and they might start loving the movie for what it is instead of what they think it should have been. I am now finally beginning to see BVS for what it really is, a new take on old characters and themes, put forward in a unique and original way (just like MOS was) instead of being a retread or retelling of old and established versions of the characters that we already know about.
I wanted to see so many things in this movie that have happened in the comics and cartoons and now I realise that was my failing as a viewer. Expecting this movie to be a perfect cinematic representation of the established versions of the characters and their established stories was wrong and tarnished my viewing experience the first time I saw this movie.
Now that I see the movie for what it was and really understand it so much better from the point of view of what it was basing itself on and trying to be (the greek revenge tragedy story model), I can actually love the movie unfettered by my pre-conceived notions and expectations!
I think I have found my peace with Zack Snyder's latest masterpiece, a movie I've wanted to love since its inception 3 years ago, since I am a huge MOS fan. Thank you so much for sharing that article, it is exactly the intellectual stimulation and guidance I needed to see and appreciate this movie for what it was.
I'm going to see it a second time this weekend and now I know I will appreciate it a whole lot more thanks to my newfound understanding and viewpoint!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
PS: I realise now this movie IS actually too smart for most people, including me, but I have kept an open mind and improved my knowledge and my understanding so I can appreciate it correctly now and I'm so happy about that.
