I'll say it again, Andy Serkis would be as fantastic in the role as anyone. Atm he's on a programme in the UK as a french killer who womanises and he is very very slippery yet frightening its unreal. But Serkis can play pretty much any character.

Why do villains always have to be young? Why not have an elderly villain? It worked in the X-Men movies, with Magneto. The dude was a pre-teen kid in WWII.... he was freakin' old! lol Hell, I don't know why they bothered fighting him. The X-Men should of just waited for him to have a stroke...

Any ways, I wouldn't mind Penguin being old.

Wow! That pic looks like a promotional image of the third movie. He would look great as the penguin, He looks like the penguin of a short story when scarecrow became a monster... I´ll search in my house for those comics to find the name of the story.

I've always liked David Suchet for the role. He's a brilliant actor, who gets relatively little work due to his...well, "Penguinish" appearance.

WOW. The guy's likeness (Suchet) to the Comic Rendition is amazing. He get's my vote based on appearance.

Ok.. I'm watching Dark Knight and surfing, and came across this thread.

David Suchet and Bob Hoskins, both fine actors would be wonderful-- but they won't get the part. We can wish, we can hope, but after Dark Knight it's gonna be biggies.

Penguin is short.

Penguin is round.

Cobblepot was teased terribly as a child to the point he cracked. He's a dark son of a ***** because of the height, weight, nose. Think more Joe Peci in Goodfellas-- the little guy who is looking to prove he's tough.

I actually think the Jack Black suggestion is on the money. He'd be looking for a non-humor role, he has box office cache, and he's short and rotund. Phillip Seymour Hoffman was awful as the villain in MI3.

And he can't act. The only serious role I saw of him, in King Kong, was even worse that all his over-the-top-and-yet-painfully-unfunny comedic attempts. This is not a Jim Carrey case where the over the top comedian happens to be a fine dramatic actor.

I want him to be fairly old, sure. But I want to see him before he reaches his full Penguin persona. I want to see how this guy got his posistion.
We shouldn't forget that he is a violent criminal, a younger Penguin could be very interesting indeed.
If only there were better Penguin stories in the comics.

How about Robin Williams?

I don't think he'd fit in the role, even though he's a great actor in his more serious roles, he has a nervous quality to him. Very fidgety, not how I imagine The Penguin to be.

It sounds crazy, but I think Eddie Izzard would make a great Penguin. Especially if they go with the whole aristocratic mobster route.

Hes definitely my favorite. He was really great in the Bank Job and in Foolproof both playing a fairly Penguinish crime boss.

"hey, ya know i'm like , a crazy villain guy.." in other words---
:facepalm

.......no.just , no.
He was great in Valkyrie. He'd definitely be better than Jack Black, Jason Alexander, etc...

Izzard is a pretty damn good actor for a stand up, but I think we could do better and I think there are roles better for Izzard. I really want to hear him voice Detective Chimp which would obviously be an entirely different film all together.

Izzard could do a serious, dramatic penguin in his sleep. Any one doubting that fact is sorely unfamiliar with a good deal of his work

Crazy?! I can't believe I didn't think of it!

If we're talking about a British mob boss/arms dealer who simply looks enough like a Penguin to warrant the nickname and plays a peripheral part in the story then I say sure, why not? Don't see it happening though.

Love Winstone, but not sure about him as Penguin. For lack of a better term, he doesn't seem refined enough. I see him more as a Harvey Bullock type.
