There are other options. Even in the case of the world itself they are giving up on the Jaeger option and just building a giant wall.

Around the entire pacific coast?
These people really got money to burn it seems.

Movie got 3 stars in Empire and 4 in Total Film, they both liked it, and normally I agree with their reviews so I should like it as well.

It looks better than Transformers movies, so that's enough to convince me to go and watch it.

(I never saw any of Transformers / Battleship movie in a theater.)

^Transformers 1 is still a great movie IMO, the sequels are poorer by some way. But, Bay isnt GDT, GDT is just an awesome director and I havent disliked a movie of his yet.

PR is on the front page of Youtube and there's a critics spot with it.

Is the movie still tracking badly? I cant believe it if so, the premise alone is amazing and should be pulling people in. Add in GDT and Elba and it should be tracking much better than was a few weeks ago.

The only thing concerning me about a few of the early reviews is the thing I was most worried about, bland or lame characters and not so good dialogue. I can deal with the dialogue if it's amusingly cheesy but the character thing? I haven't quite been seeing eye to eye with the critics this year so that gives me hope, that and there are only a handful of reviews so duh, I'll wait for more.

The dialogue and characters have had me worried. The trailers haven't really relieved those fears.

Too much humans...that's what some people said.

I see this film more as an ID4/Godzilla type humans are invaded by monsters and build stuff to fight them off. Still think it needed more names though.

Del Toro and Elba have big online followings; not among the general public. Most people have no clue who they are.

Not so sure about that. These two aren't exactly box office draws.
Just look at their history. It would be like assuming Elba brought in an audience for his Thor work(which I assume is his biggest movie thus far).

If this does Hellboy box office(which I think the tracking suggests it will), that would mean something considering it's original however given it's budget...

Sometimes I don't think people online realize that Del Toro is not a James Cameron or Spielberg to the public, the man has literally never directed a film that has hit 150mil domestically even when you adjust the ticket prices. It goes without saying that Elba is not a big star, the movie has no big stars.

That doesn't mean this movie won't gross 150mil or more but it does mean that Del Toro issue isn't a big time director yet though he is very well respected and makes good movies IMHO.

I honestly have no idea how big Luther is to the general public.

UK? Big.
Everywhere else, especially in the states? No awareness among "the normals."

Only UK show people here know is Downtown Abbey.

Don't forget Doctor Who. It has become quite big here.

Elba has a big following in the UK, havent met a person yet who doesnt know who Elba is in the UK, Luthor was very successful here. Maybe the movie will do better internationally.

Del Toro isnt Nolan/Cameron/Spielberg big I know, but he is at least known, that should count for something.

Didn't the new series of Luthor just start over there?

That has nothing to do with tracking its US box office. Your argument was del Toro and Elba are in it so that should help its tracking. Having a following in the UK means nothing here. Just ask Benedict Cumberbatch, who didn't help Star Trek Into Darkness one bit.

So has Being Human. I watched most of the UK version off TV here.
Being Human has its fans, but it isn't a global entity like Doctor Who. They actually sell Doctor Who merch in more then a few stores.
