RoboCop Reboot - Part 4

I really doubt it will be but that doesn't mean it can't be good. It's very, very hard to recreate a movie so iconic of an era and of a mentality and not lose something along the way.

True, but its quite possible that there's going to be a lot in this movie that wasn't in the original that could give it an edge.

the one thing thats different and that i like alot is in this one they are including him having to reconnect with his wife and son. thats a whole new element and layer of drama that the original one did not have.

Everyone who was a naysayer in the beginning is now optimistic. I couldn't be further from the opposite. I was an optimist but the more I see, the less I want this movie to exist

I'm still in the middle. There are things that look better or look worse and nothing has markedly shifted my opinion on the movie. I'll still see it but I'm not convinced yet to see it in the theater.

The only way I'm going to see this in the theater, is if it gets a ridiculous amount of praise. I'll definitely watch it when it comes to DVD, though.

I can't wait to see this baby come february, IMAX here I come!

The trailer seems to reinforce the idea that the car bomb is the result of OCP wanting to make America more "robophilic"...if that's the twist in the film, I can see a lot of people being disappointed (some here have said it). Though, I think it opens up a lot of potential. I like that the film is going to explore drone politics, capitalism and capitalist ideologies, and the commodification of the human body. This film seems like it'll have just as much heart and brains as spectacle.

Well, remember how callous OCP was in the original. They positioned Alex Murphy in Metro West with the hope that he'd be killed.

drone politics (automated warfare), capitalism and the commodification of the human body were all brought up in the original robocop too, which is why it is still relevant today, maybe even more so.
but this new one seems to be dealing with different facets of the same topics.

the car bomb is probably meant to draw a parallel to how war time soldiers are killed or maimed by IEDs.

These allegories for the remake seem very cut and dry where as the original was cleverly disguised as an ultra-vulgar b-movie.

For some reason that approach really complimented the dark satire.

I re-watched the film and you're right, the elevator scene basically showed that it was Security Concepts idea to place officers in high risk areas. Simply mindblowing how I missed this.

So really, it seems like the reboot is following somewhat of the same origin story, minus Clarence Boddicker.

Im a major fan of Robocop and Robocop 2, and I must say I hated the idea of a remake, but the cast, more so than anything else, is probably enough to make me go see it. Jackson, Oldman and Keaton together in one movie? Ill go see it just for that

Yeah, I didn't catch that either until now.

I will miss Clarence Boddicker. Such a great villain. Does this movie have any sort of central thug bad guy like him?

that whole performance by kurtwood smith is lightning in a bottle, clarence boddicker felt both so evil, yet so real, it was scary.

doesn't seem like there is any prominent "thug" level villians in this one now.

I still think one of the best lines in movie history is when Boddicker goes into Morton's house to kill him, and all the hookers are over him, Boddicker just looks at them and goes, "*****es, leave.". :hehe:

he has so many good one-liners.
i always love this dialogue here, boddicker is vicious and hilarious at the same time:

Sal: Okay, let me try to put this in perspective. You've killed a bunch of cops. Word around is that you've got a lot of heavy connections downtown. You make a lot of my friends nervous. A lot of people... would love to see a guy like me... put a guy like you out of business.
Clarence Boddicker: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe I'm just not making myself clear. I don't want to **** with you, Sal. But I got the connections. I got the sales organization. I got the muscle to shove enough of this factory so far up your stupid wop ass that you'll **** snow for a year.
Sal: Frankie, blow this ********er's head off.
[both Clarence's and Sal's henchmen draw their guns]
Clarence Boddicker: Oooh. Guns, guns, guns. C'mon, Sal. The Tigers are playing...
[slaps the table]
Clarence Boddicker: tonight. I never miss a game.
Sal: [grinning] Just kidding.
[signals his henchmen to put their guns away]

Ever notice how little Kurtwood Smith's appearance has changed over the years? He looks almost exactly the same as he did when he was in Robocop.

Weller on the other hand...

It doesn't seem like it. Seems to me that Michael Keaton's character might be the "hidden" villain. I wonder if they're taking their time with character development so that they could introduce Boddicker or a badass figure for the sequel? (THat is, assuming they even set up for a sequel).

i am happy that they didnt copy a Boddicker villain for this.

I like some of his lines, but I was never that impressed with Boddicker as a villain. The best part of his character in ROBOCOP is his death. I was never big on any of Robocop's villains, come to think of it.

"B******, leave!!!"

Kurtwood Smith recalling the filming of that scene is especially hilarious; apparently, Verhoeven didn't know that the term "b****" was used in a derogatory manner towards women, so he kept referring to the actresses in the scene as "The B******" on set! LOL!!!!
