RoboCop Reboot - Part 4

the trailer didn't blow me away, but i did think it looks solid.
it looks to be a different yet interesting take on robocop.

if the movie is good, that would be cool to have another good robocop movie. if not, that's cool too, because there's always the 1987 original to go back to.

at least somebody's actually trying to make a robocop movie these days...

btw, you can't have SLJ in a movie and not have him wear a funny hairpiece.
he said his character is a combination of rush limbaugh and al sharpton. so there's that.

I thought the trailer looked GREAT and the movie itself actually looked really entertaining. The black suit didn't even bother me.

BUT...there's one scene in the silver suit where he jumps off of something that just looked like VERY poorly done CGI. Which makes me worry for the rest of the film. Like...how much of murphy in the suit will be CG?

But can people at least try to make something that is good? I mean, I think directors and script writers bang out movies but I really doubt that as they are making an average C movie that they are really thinking "This is going to be an amazing movie!". When they were filming Getaway for example, no one can convince me they were trying to make the best movie they possibly could. I mean correct me if I am wrong but isnt that the goal when making a movie? To make the best possible movie you have made to date?

Oh I dont question him, just what is it that crawled on to his head and died there.:woot:

Is he aware of it being there??:woot:
...how dare you! :jedi

:lips: <--It was probably this, though. :oldrazz:

i'm taking the wait and see approach. i personally didn't think it looked terrible at all.
what i meant is at least somebody is trying to make a robocop story that is earnest and serious.
as compared to part 2 and 3, which i'm not a fan of.

the one scene that sorta bugs me is what Destructus brought up, about the suit looking CGI at one point. i hope it's real and not obvious cgi for the movie. i like the new black suit, but i think the new suit with original colors looks effin sweet. if they kept that one, i bet more people would be on board with this.

Look at the explosion too, it looks like a tv-movie cheap CGI explosion

If the script is right then [BLACKOUT]both his hand and face are fake. Also.... when they realize his emotions are getting in the way of his programming they start trying to strip it away. They start slowly taking away everything that makes him human.[/BLACKOUT]

A car bomb? seriously. It would have been much better to have his family killed and himself tortured. Original robocop torture scene owns this, frikin car bomb?. Still watching it though.

Was this attached to any movie that came out this week, like Riddick?

Still to this day Murphy's death scene in the original is so mean spirited and brutal it still gives me chills down my spine, you don't see anything that serious and violent in action movies these days which is unfortunate.

i think they are trying to avoid re-creating the same level of brutality of murphy's killing in the original, because you can't. anyone trying to copy that will always fall short.

someone mention that seems like they are trying to relate murphy's journey in this movie to like a solder coming home from war and trying to reintegrate with his family and life.
i think the car bomb is suppose to parallel that, when a soldier gets blown up by an IED.

I think their approach to Murphy becoming Robocop is very clever.
Rather than focusing mostly on what he's like, and rediscovering himself, AFTER Murphy is stripped out, they are focusing on the process of stripping him it itself.

It's just like Padilha said. This movie focuses on what happens in the original film, between Murphy dying, and when Robocop is completed; those cuts where we see OCP and Morton politicing, building, and just plain removing the man from the machine.

Okay.

Here's my take on what I saw from the trailer: it is not as bad as I thought, and in fact I had to ask some people who had seen it what they thought because I wasn't sure of my reaction, lol. But this movie might not be that bad, and in fact it could be a good action film that breathes in life in something, that the original was great, but any follow-up to it didn't live up to it from a little to a lot. The fact that the basics of who Robocop is, and not quite what Robocop the movie was, was nice to know that it was still there. The satire might not be present, but then again, maybe that's something that IS the original, and the new one couldn't be and had to be something else. We live in a different time, where business in the '80s was a topic but easily made fun of, but now it's become serious and not funny unless it's specific. I like how Robocop will still deal with the issues that the original one had, but in different ways. Such as man vs. machine, control from him or the corporation, and family. So you can't say that this newer version isn't like the original was, because it is but different and fresh.

This new one is showing us that it's a reboot of the franchise, and a remake of the concept and not the movie which is great, as it reimagines the elements, but not copies it. I like to see more and of course the film so we can see where they're going with this, and the end product.

P.S. Yes, I'am surprised that we were shown more of the silver and black Robo than we probably would. And yes, I'am wondering how much we will see it in the final film.

I feel like I'm the only one who thought the CGI in that shot (and the rest of the trailer) was good.
And yeah, from the looks of it, Robocop will be mostly practical. The digital effects look very minimal

You mean like The Punisher? Then people would complain over that too. :o

Are we REALLY trivializing car bombings? As someone you used to work for a demining compnay, I can tell you, IEDs and unexploded ordnance are no joke.

He could use a little back up.

She's up all night to the sun,
I'm up all night to get some.
She's up all night for good fun,
I'm up all night for dead or alive, you're coming with me!

I thought the cgi looked pretty good actually, and it seems they shot the suit so that you can't tell how plastic and fake it really is, or so I hope.
