That's why i have no faith in Joel Silver's 'trilogy' idea for his Escape from NY. It's the SAME mentality.
That is a common problem. Either they use everything interesting in the first film, and the sequel becomes a bit of a cash-in (Into Darkness). Or they first film is made withe the anticipation of actually trying to do something interesting later.
By the way I really like Into Darkness, but on repeat viewings it doesn't really hold up.
True. Something like the Dragon sequel feels far more earned, substantial and nature in its approach, even with its self-contained first film. It's the "tentpole" mentality. Going into a remake/reboot franchise with the predetermined outlook that it will lead to sequels, merchandise and lots of tie-ins. That stuff needs to be earned. It's like they're setting themselves up for failure
It definitely feels small. It is strange because it is trying to be more personal, but the story they went with is only personal for the audience who understands Khan.'Into Darkness' felt small as heck didn't it? I even preferred the cinematography from the first film. JJ wasn't invested.

Interesting with Rocky that he actually retconned his own franchise, thus eliminating Rocky 5 from the canon. Kinda.
While they all but ignored Rocky 5, it is still "in canon".The son right? In Rocky 5? Didn't he have a mental disorder? And it vanished in Rocky 6?

It must be the earring. Made me think he was a bit special as well.Keep in mind, I haven't seen the movie in years.

It'll be lucky to crack $19 million from the estimates I saw. $17-18 is more in line with predictions.$20m for the 4 day weekend should happen, even with the poor numbers.
Can I ask where? Because I am reading $22-25m for the 4 day weekend. It'll be lucky to crack $19 million from the estimates I saw. $17-18 is more in line with predictions.
Disappointing but I kept my expectations in check because of the long history this film has in getting out to theaters. Still don't know what I'm going to think of it yet but the critics and audience have spoken and I'll be waiting for the Netflix release instead.
