Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Yeah, I still don't know what happened in Conviction in terms of story and gameplay, but after watching the trailer and hearing about how excited people are to see some familiar and iconic aspects, I don't mind the changes because I'm just happy to see Sam and Splinter Cell back. I just might go back and try out Double Agent again since I don't have the HD trilogy. The only thing that keeps me from doing it is the lack of trophies.

Speaking of which, I was recently playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution, trying to get the trophies that revolved around stealth, not drawing an alarm, and not killing anyone, and it really made me think back to the classic Splinter Cell style and I'm really looking forward to sneaking around rather than running and gunning.

Yea i find it funny that at the end of Conviction a few people were asking me where id like the series to head next and i came up with the idea that something would happen that would cause the President to bring Sam Fisher back into action. Seeing, of course, at how bad 3E had fallen Sam would of only done it if he were allowed to call the shots. That way you can have the new "predator" based gameplay (the more visceral Sam) as well as allow Sam to get his cool Govt gear back. Lo and behold, my ideas damn near came to fruition beat for beat.

I've gotta say, all the Blacklist talk has made me hyped for Splinter Cell again and I've been wanting to go back and play the older ones. Unfortunately, the only one I have on PS3 is Double Agent. I put off playing it until after I played the HD collection, which I rented earlier in the year, but now that I'm finally trying to get through DA, I'm realizing that its not that good. I've tried and stopped playing about 10 times this weekend because the mechanics just aren't great. Plus, the fact hat there are no trophies makes it seem even more like a chore to get through.

The current gen version of Double Agent isn't very good unfortunately. The last gen version was made by the Splinter Cell 1 and Chaos Theory devs, and it was pretty good.

Maybe its the film?

Thats what i hear and i never did play it. Need to look it up, i can prob get it pretty cheap.

If you need a break from games, try reading a book...a comic book, of course. However, most video game comics suck, so why not check out this Splinter Cell comic before you buy it.

Splinter Cell Blacklist – Closer Than Ever Game Mechanic

If you’re a Splinter Cell fan awaiting the release of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist in the first quarter of next year, then here’s a new video that Ubisoft hops will flame the fires of that anticipation. According to Splinter Cell community developer Zack Cooper, who serves as our narrator for this video, this quick tease is for the game’s “Closer Than Ever” mechanic. Cooper notes that this “classic mechanic” came from a previous Splinter Cell game, Chaos Theory, not being a follower of the series myself, I’ll have to take his word for that.

Ironside just wasn't feeling the script this time. c happens. going to mid east is a sore spot and he's canadian after all too. even though alot of our own troops were there..... he just wasn't feeling it. If not for that reason, then there are others. Maybe after this one and if there's a better script he might come back. You just never know.
Don't lie man, Ubisoft rejected him.

http://spong.com/article/28144/Ubisoft-Reveals-Facts-on-Michael-Ironsides-Splinter-Cell-Rejection

If you've been paying attention to Splinter Cell a very clear narrative has been carried from Double Agent right into Blacklist.
Actually from Double Agent to Conviction they changed story direction and ended up leaving some plot holes which doesn't make it very clear.

I wasn't lieing at time I came a cross a video with him stating he didn't feel like he would be good to play the character any more with the direction they were going for. there two sets of video floating at the time . And with the way he said it and his tone it had alot of people thinking's the same. that was a long time ago, it'll be hard find that very video now. but i know they did have it.

Ok wait here's one not the one I saw back then but it is one most people have seen.

But this is the video I was truly looking for.

man I had to really look for that and I have to head out now. Here it is though. From the Man him self lips on video for all our ears to listen, it was his chose as well too as he said "He didn't like the direction the character was going with this one upcoming installment." end quote. If you see the video all the way to the end in that second link/ article there.

So take that as you will. But now you know I wasn't lieing. Thanks for saying that BTW. I'm usually careful before speaking especially on here. I'll remember to make I'm more on guard then ever now. But he did say this as you can see.

For a minute there, I thought this was in regards to the game, but then I realized it was for the movie and I must say it's definitely an interesting choice. I mean, I like Hardy, but I don't get a Sam Fisher vibe from him, mostly because he's always seemed older. But Hardy is becoming a brand name so let's see if it's a sign of things movie forward for this movie.

He was talking about Conviction.

He said, "I said no after the fourth game, I was done. I didn't like the direction the character was going in."

Fourth game = Double Agent

And you'll notice he never says he rejected the role.

That's a mash-up of the Blacklist trailer and interviews Ironside did for Double Agent and Conviction.

Not in the context you purport.

Way to make a first impression Mr. Farenheit, geez.

Remember when I said "at the time there were two videos floating around most of places " that aired the second link I put up for you and they went and put it out that way and they didn't say it was a mix up of other interviews prior to that day . So it's not really fair to call me a lier.

I do admit when I'm mistaken, but doing this is what starts flame wars which I've been doing my best to avoid. I don't go around doing that to people. I only react when started up on.

Now if that is the case and since that is the case (being the better person and complying with my promise to an admin on here ) I do retract that comment. As I said it was a long time ago and I wasn't the only one that picked up that "as he said he didn't like the direction it was going him self." hell there are people on game informer forum's and comments on the day that came out that saw this and thought the same. cause most of those other news sites (not the ones I was putting of late that like EPD.tv/ROTR game infomer ETc) that showed that one didn't say it was a mix other interviews at all.

Now I am saying since that's indeed the case "I was mistaken ." and my apologies. I don't see you on here enough seeing this like your second post. So I hope to hear more from you. As long as it's not so doing to start up fights with me or others I'd hope. Cause I'll do my best to avoid them. but i will defend my self . Other wise. I don't care for that stuff. So I hope you and I will keep things friendly or at the very least civil.

Welcome to the forum.

In this latest Splinter Cell: Blacklist developer diary, stuntman and combat consultant Kevin Secours puts some of his best choke holds and close-quarters combat maneuvers to use. These moves should come in handy the next time we're trying to get information on the next Xbox.

From the art of the choke, to the art of the non-lethal kidney poke, this latest trailer for Splinter Cell: Blacklist shows how Sam Fisher takes 'em out without making much noise. Ignore the fact that Fisher has a silencer on his pistol, that'll just complicate this conversation. Ghosting seems ... Continue Reading

New Dev Diary for Splinter Cell: Blacklist Art Direction [NORTH AMERICA]

[YT]XG1xSptsrMU [/YT]

Visuals player a very important part in the Splinter Cell series, too bright and shiny and the whole stealth aspect is lost, but too dark and dank and the game becomes impossible to play, a balance must be struck between the two to create the perfect sneaking environment.
This latest developer diary for Splinter Cell: Blacklist takes a closer look at the process that the dev team had to go through when deciding on the game’s visual style. The video also includes an interview with Scott Lee, art director on Blacklist, who provides insight into the use of light and shadow in the game.

And if you read the text at the beginning of the video (the one you saw back then, the popwatch one) it says, "PLEASE NOTE IRONSIDE IS NOT TALKING ABOUT BLACKLIST, RATHER WHAT HE DID WITH THE ROLE (these are pre-dated interviews)".

That means in those video clips he's talking about previous games. It should be apparent from how different how looks in those vids (which are from several years ago) to the new one you just posted.

I'm not sure how you missed that, it's right there.

Watch the video again and this time listen to all of what he says.

He says, "I said no after the fourth game, I was done, I didn't really want to do it. I didn't like the direction the character was going in."

Also, fourth game = Double Agent. He wasn't talking about Blacklist, he was talking about Double Agent and Conviction.

So take that as you will. But now you know I wasn't lieing. Thanks for saying that BTW. I'm usually careful before speaking especially on here. I'll remember to make I'm more on guard then ever now. But he did say this as you can see.
When you quoted Ironside you cut out the part where he said, "I said no after the fourth game."

That was literally right before he said, "I didn't like the direction the character was going in."

lol I'm sure I said I 'm past all that and ended all that and welcomed you to the site. that twice now on that same thing. But it seems you want to find someone to argue with. Too bad, I don't care to feed you any more as your still on to some thing, I apologized for and have moved on from.

Have fun.

So I've been playing through the HD trilogy for the past week and its reminded me of how much I loved these games when I played them growing up. Its really cool to see how much changed from the original to Chaos Theory, which looked amazing with HD graphics.

I also starting watching some of the videos for Blacklist, which look phenomenal. Since I never played Conviction, this looks like the Splinter Cell game I would have loved to see, which is classic Splinter Cell updated with better graphics and gameplay to fit in with the state of video games today. But as great as this game looks, I still can't over the fact that Sam looks and sounds much younger than he ever did in the past. I mean, Chaos Theory is filled with old jokes about Sam, and seeing how versatile he is is just as mind boggling as seeing Ezio in AC: Revelations, when he was much older and still as mobile.

I love Eric Johnson and think he could've made a great young Sam, but I almost feel like they wanted to set the game in the future but still want someone young, and it still looks weird from a character standpoint. But other than that, this game look awesome an I can't wait to play it.

Yea i think they should of just gone the reboot route and that would of made the younger, new actor for Fisher easier to cope with. Instead they are just picking up right where they left off, yet with a much younger Sam. Maybe they wont reference the past games much, sort of making this a pseudo sequel/reboot. Iv got faith in Johnson tho, Sam isnt a very difficult character to get into.

I can totally understand why they went with someone new, because they wanted someone who could act the part in both voice and physicality for all of the mo-cap stuff, and it really looks great. And Johnson is a great actor. I remember him from the first season of Smallville, where rumor was he nearly got cast as Clark Kent for the show. I know he's been in a lot of other stuff since, and it's great to see him as the character, but it still sounds weird when you hear Sam speak and he sounds so much different.
