He would of been perfect in 1985, in 2017 not so much. The flash needs a director who can inject energy into the film. Judging from his last couple of films which are smaller slower plotted films. I highly doubt a guy like that can bring the energy on screen to make this film pop.

That's true but I still think he has it in him if the script is right.

Sounds like Ridley Scott before The Martian

Nope not the same in anyway. Ridley Scott was still making movies that had energy to them. They were just divisive films like Prometheus or critically panned like the counselor. I never said Zemeciks was in the middle of a rough patch of films. Im saying films like flight, the walk, Beowulf, and a Christmas carol, lack the energy needed for a film starring the Flash. As a storyteller he's been making films that are slower.

Get Raimi for Flash, Zemeckis for Flash 2, Vaughn for Flash 3. :o

Oh. So it'll probably be him or Vaughn. I'm just not a fan of the guy who directed Forest Gump directing The Flash.. :/ I wanted Vaughn for Spider-Man so hope he gets it if Raimi doesn't

Why not? The guy ran from one end of The United States to the other.

Would have preferred Raimi for Batman but I'd take for him Flash too. Go Sam!

Just heard about the Flash news. Havent read any of the previous pages.

I'm gonna say I'm extremely pleased and happy to hear this. The last 2-3 directorial choices were worrying me. Mckay for Nightwing, Joss for Batgirl, and Vaughn for Superman, were not choices I could get behind, and I have voiced that before. Most important for me was MOS 2, as thats the character I care about most, Henry's Superman. And Vaughn's previous comments about Superman were extremely discouraging for me.

But Vaughn for Flash? Hells to the yea. I have been waiting for the Flash director forever, and this is about time man. I loved Vaughn's work in First Class, and I think he would be perfect for The Flash. I would be okay with Zemeckis too, I rewatched Back to the Future the last day, and its still great.

But please WB, get Vaughn for Flash. That sounds amazing. Also pleased to hear Raimi is in the mix, and the priority is getting this project off this year, so we are looking at a 2019 release date in all probability.

Chris McKay did a bang-up job with The LEGO Batman Movie and I'm sure he'll do a great job with Nightwing, as well. And while I wasn't particularly fond of Joss Whedon's work on the original Avengers movie, I thought he really matured as a filmmaker and took some great risks (which paid off for me) on Avengers: Age of Ultron.

And with Mel Gibson having been eyed for Suicide Squad 2 and now Matthew Vaughn, Sam Raimi and Robert Zemeckis being frontrunners for a Flash movie I'm really liking the filmmakers they're picking for their future movies.

It goes on to show that they're trying to head into a more filmmaker-friendly direction than Marvel Studios.

I understand that. I liked Lego Batman, and I'm sure Mckay will do a good, maybe even a great job. But he is a bit unproven, and I would have preferred a more proven filmmaker. I'm not a fan of Whedon's work either. Nevertheless, thats just my opinion.

Absolutely agree on this one, and dont forget James Wan on Aquaman, Matt Reeves on Batman, and Doug Liman on JLD. They have a very talented list of filmmakers. These are the choices, with the ones you have mentioned I can get behind.

My choice for the Flash would be Vaughn. He would be perfect. And then get Bayona for MOS 2 and I will be a happy camper :D

Now make of this what you will, but CB.com is reporting that 'apparently' Billy Crudup has dropped out of the film.

Based on what? Well, going off of this EW article about the new director contenders:

http://ew.com/movies/2017/05/16/flash-director-robert-zemeckis-matthew-vaughn/?xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter

Towards the end is this:

The Flash job has not been an easy one to fill. A source tells EW that two Spider-Man directors Sam Raimi and Marc Webb passed on the position. The film also lost its father figure with Billy Crudup, who was set to play the Ezra Miller’s character’s dad, dropping off. Warner Bros. declined to comment.

Bit of inconsistency there. Says that Raimi passed on the position...but we know he's in the mix right there. So yeah, an odd one right there.

Man, I love the shot with Crudup and Miller in the Justice League trailer. It would be a pity to lose him in the Flash movie.

I'd hope they wouldn't cut his scene in Justice League to leave open the possibility of recasting. Shame if true

There's no confirmation on the drop and while this is EW and more reputable than others, the fact that there's even a one percent chance of an actor dropping out of a DCEU picture would catch fire, just like the 'reshoots' rumor for Justice League.

I could be wrong and this is true, but right now, I'm skeptical. And the part about Raimi passing when we know he's in contention right now sounds odd.

Yeah, I'm skeptical as well. Worst case scenario they could always recast the role and reshoot the scene before November.

Crudup was just asked about The Flash during the Alien: Covenant press junket and it sounded like he was still attached, so who knows.

As far as the director goes, I'd prefer Zemeckis over Vaughn or Raimi at this point.

The Flash movie is going to require a heavy amount of near-constant special effects, which is undoubtedly something Zemeckis has extensive experience with and excels at. Along with those skills, he certainly has been known to have a unique visual flair with SFX and his films overall. I don't want to see half-assed, completely generic speedster effects (looking at you, Quicksilver in AOU). I definitely feel like Zemeckis would work hard in this field and strive to build on what Snyder did with The Flash SFX in Justice League, in order to create something that is visually breathtaking and nearly photo-realistic.

But beyond that, his track record has shown that he knows how to craft compelling stories that are sometimes delicately and uniquely structured. He takes risks and hasn't only limited himself to one or two genres of film throughout his career. Look at the stark differences between two of his greatest films -- Forrest Gump (which has the kind of blend between comedy/drama that The Flash needs) and Cast Away. (Speaking of Cast Away, the opening plane-crash scene is an incredible action sequence. Just saw it again on TV last week.)

And of course, as everyone knows, the concept of "time" in essential to a character like The Flash. Time -- whether it be time traveling or the passage of time -- also happens to be something that Zemeckis has show interest in throughout his career, so it does seem like The Flash is the project that may fall into his wheelhouse.

Now, I'm not suggesting that Vaughn and Raimi lack the talent or expertise to make this film great at the end of the day, but I do feel that Zemeckis is a little more of an "outside the box" pick and that's something I like. With the other two, it feels like they might be more "obvious" and safe picks because they each made a couple of successful films featuring younger, lighthearted, and jokey superhero characters, where as Zemeckis has not yet directed a superhero/CBM film.

Very well said.

Also, apparently EW was going off this saying Crudup dropped out? Not sure https://***********/Romyypp/status/864867910774378498

Why would they have teased Crudup in the JL trailer if he wasn't locked in to the solo movie?

So apparently Crudup is set to star in "Where'd You Go, Bernadette." According to Deadline, anyway.

EXCLUSIVE: Billy Crudup has been set to star with Cate Blanchett and Kristen Wiig in the Richard Linklater-directed Where’d You Go, Bernadette. The film is based on the Maria Semple novel and focuses on a woman named Bernadette in Seattle, a mother who has gone missing and left her teen daughter to pick up the pieces.

Whether there's any connection to or correlation with the Flash rumor/news, no idea.

Elmayimbe saying Crudup still attached

THR backs it up

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/billy-crudup-isnt-dropping-flash-movie-1004794

Here’s a NewsFlash: Billy Crudup is still in Warner Bros.’s The Flash.

According to sources close to the production and Crudup’s camp, the actor is still firmly on board to play the father of Barry Allen, the speedy superhero being Ezra Miller played by father.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Crudup had dropped out of the project which has slowed its momentum and lost its release date (temporarily) due to a protracted director search.

But Flash isn’t slowing down for long as the studio appears to be narrowing its hunt and meeting with high-end directors such as Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn for the gig. (Zemeckis appears to be the frontrunner at this stage although the situation changes week to week.)

Crudup has been involved with Flash since September 2016.

Even though Flash has been pushed, Crudup isn’t standing still. The actor stars in Alien: Covenent, which opens Friday, and just signed on on for Annapurna’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette?
