That's exactly how I feel right now :funny:

I wonder if this will be the same footage they'll show at SDCC.

The SHIELD/HYDRA situation makes Furys "we'll need them to" comment irrelevant. There is no organization for him to get them back together. Its now Tony and Cap making those calls. So that considered Tony couldve already got everyone back right after TWS occurred and started doing his own thing.

I dont believe in a need to show a reason why theyre back together or some opening credits montage to show whats happened leading up to AOU. You can easily just jump into the current story with everyone rolling along. The audience is intelligent enough. You start off where these characters are in their current lives (like Godfather II).

I don't think that's necessary. If people really want to know, they either had an opportunity to see them at the theater and if not, pay a couple bucks to see it on video. Otherwise, this film should be dealing with itself on its own terms and not be caught up in whether or not people saw the other films. The beauty of the first film is that you didn't need to even see the others, as preferable as that would have been, it functioned on its own. Whedon wrote it in such a way where you knew exactly who these people were and where you understand them and their motives and reasoning behind everything in this narrative. It's great screenwriting and should be applied to all comic book and franchise films.

I was just spit-balling about the montage but I forget we are dealing with Joss Whedon here and he has respect for his audience. Now that I think about what he said it makes sense to just get on with it. I'm really hoping the movie pushes 2 1/2 hours though, maybe even closer to 3! Would be amazeballs if that is the case

I seriously doubt Joss needs more than 10-15 minutes to establish the Avengers getting back together at the start of the movie; however, *some* backstory and exposition will be necessary. He can't assume that *everyone* has watched TWS and/or AoS, for instance; so the rise of HYDRA and breakup of SHIELD will definitely need to be addressed, since it'll have a direct bearing on The Avengers operating independently of Fury/SHIELD. Thor probably needs a bit of explanation, too, although it doesn't need to be a retelling of the whole boring Malekith saga; just a basic recap that Thor decided to come back to Midgard to visit his mortal honey-bunny. (Like it or no, Jane *needs* to have a brief cameo in this. Tie up the damn loose ends at least for her quasi-relationship with Thor, Marvel, before you kick her to the curb.)

You're assuming Hydra is rising up all over the world and taking it over. That's not the indication given by what we saw transpire in CA:TWS. They've been outed. Heck, even Senator Stern got arrested by the FBI. What's left of Hydra is more or less mop up duty. The stuff with the Twins I'm sure is being kept hush hush until they're ready to release them on the Avengers.

Having said that, it would seem on the surface that Hydra is not a reason to already have been assembled.

It doesn't need to be some huge exposition. I just don't want anymore "well here I am" moments like with Thor in the Avengers. Take a couple of minutes to reconnect them, then its time to start kicking some butt.
hahaha RIGHT? I love Tom and all, but that was a waist of time. I would have been pissed if I paid to get in that convention just to see what they were going to show and that happened

Didn't someone say that the alleged description for the opening had Jane cameoing on a date with Chris O'Dowd's character from Thor 2?

HE said, literally, HE said that he could not even assume everybody had seen the first one. That should be a BIG clue about his intentions right there.

Rock, Strucker literally said that there were other HYDRA cells out there and that they would give them to Captain America and his colorfull friends, AKA, the Avengers, to distract them from STruckers own agenda. Joss himself wrote that. So they are a currency out of date, sure, they were weakened, but Joss Whedon himself made Strucker say they were still able to atract the Avengers. There are no assumptions there. They are not conquering the world, but it seems the world still seems to need them to clean it. Or so thinks Strucker. And i dont take taht madmans views lightly. I mean... the mans crazy. Totally. But he aint a moron.

If he's looking at the Godfather 2 as a template, he could explain what happened as he goes along. If we're moving in real time it's been close to a year since the events of Winter Soldier, so all it really takes is a conversation with Fury where Black Widow talks about how the Avengers had to come back together in the wake of SHIELD's destruction.

Or even a conveniently placed news segment talking about the return of the Avengers in the wake of the HYDRA incident. Remember those talking heads we saw in the Iron Man movies and the closing moments of the first Avengers movie? Imagine that but with "It's been just over a year since billionaire Tony Stark reformed the Avengers, and some critics still aren't satisfied with the group's alleged lack of transparency."

Its even simpler; go read the first issue of Whedons run in Astonishing X-Man. Trough a couple of clever scenes and conversations, in a couple of pages you find out who is who, where theyre are in theyre lives, wich theyre relationships are between each other, and important back story information about theyre past that will be important later.

And not only dont you have to read one single issue of Morrisons earlier run (i did love it, though, so i recomend it) but you dont even need to have read one single issue of the x-men in your entire life. Its a masterclass in exposition and continuity that feels like neither.

Im not worried.

Sounds like RDJ is done filming his scenes:

that is fast, considering they are scheduled till the end of July... or maybe all he has left to do is film the scenes when he is inside the suit and they put the camera on his face. :P I think that is done in LA.

That's probably what he'll be doing soon. XD

Ya, but the problem is only Nick Fury is in Europe hunting down remnants of Hydra right now as explained to us in CA:TWS and remember that was the biggest segue into AOU.

There's plenty of time to cover how they reconnect given that the run time is nearly 2.5 hours.

When it comes down to it, In Joss I trust. I just don't see it disappointing any of us here and I'm sure the things he has cooking in his mind will makes all explode with fanboyism

has it been announced that the movie will be 2.5 hours? !

I expect Downey isn't quite done yet - they're only half way through an 100 day shoot, and I doubt he wouldn't be a part of the second half of that.

Didn't read that remark that way either, no... Sounds more like they're taking it easy for some way this week and he's bored *shrugs*.

RDJ cant be done already, must be taking a break while they shoot stuff without him.
