Really? I thought they wanted to make him the anchor of phase III.
*Shrugs* Don't take it as fact. I saw it an article a few months back, but I can't remember if it was in a quote by Feige or from one of those "credible" sources.

So....all the characters will become magical? I don't get it. Will Ultron be magic related now?

As I keep saying: *something* has to give Ultron these powers. You can build Frankenstein's Monster, but until you get the lightning storm and all the nifty Tesla coils to grant him life and power, he's just a spare-parts zombie. We've got Dr. Strange coming right around the corner after AoU (it's not unreasonable to look for a 2016 release date there), we've got Joss flat out saying that Wanda is a witch, we've got TDW bringing down Aether and dark magic and all that jazz on the planet. There's an earth-changing event at the end of CATWS (and I highly doubt it's something as mundane as a shakeup in the power structure of SHIELD), and the title of this film is officially "AGE of Ultron," which smacks of a new era (or an alternate timeline/universe, favorite tropes of comic books from time immemorial).

Respectufly, I think you're reading too much into his quote. He was talking about toning down the powers of Ultron from the books and making him more of a realistic creation rather than magical--magical in the sense that his powers have no realistic base.

Alternate timelines are things writers use because they've run out of new ways to tell stories about characters that have been around too long. The MCU doesn't have that problem.

I think its less about the credibility of their powerset's basis, and more about determining what they can actually *do*. 'Magic' means 'can do basically anything the plot demands.'

I understand that part of the quote, and certainly don't believe Cap and Hulk and Tony Stark are suddenly going to start chucking fireballs and ice storms; but I believe his choice of words regarding Wanda are spot on irrefutable. And, as I said, couple that with the fact that TDW is about to introduce "Aether" and dark magic into the equation, and Dr. Strange has been confirmed, I think **** is about to get UNreal.

And I'm all for that. :)

What about Ultron's power set was so unbelievable that it had to be tuned down? I think we'll see a less indestructible Ultron so that characters like Hawkeye and Black Widow will be able to fight him.

Oh, well in that case I agree. Sounds like Wanda is definitely going to be magical. I thought you were talking about Ultron.

Mind control, coma vision, super speed. Y'know, stuff like that

There's no way for them to fight something omnipotent unless some kind of deus ex machina happens like in the books. Film just makes it seem cheap.

I'm sure that Whedon doesn't want the team backed into a corner to the extent that at the last minute they have to beat Ultron with something one of them pulled out of their ass. Which, let's face it, happens in the comic books all too often when the villains are unbeatable.

Toning down Ultron's power set is a smart move. Something like mins control is not necessary since Loki had that ability (or sometjing extremely similar) with the Cube and even used it on Hawkeye. "Coma vision" is also stupid.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen is in final talks to play The Scarlet Witch.

They've also confirmed that Bradley Cooper is in talks to play Rocket Raccoon.

Marvel does not skimp on the casting.

still awfully confused about that Cooper as Rocket thing
You'd think they'd want him for Nova or Mar-vell or even Strange

oh Marvel, hire an a-list pretty boy and make him a talking raccoon.
I think Marvel just trolled Hollywood

Gunn did, you mean. That was no accident casting one of the current hot actors as a raccoon.

Perhaps Cooper doesn't want a bigger role in a superhero movie?

He's kind of busy working on big movies with the biggest directors in Hollywood. This way he gets to be involved in a Marvel franchise without devoting half a year of his life to it

im still kinda wishing Rocket would have a british accent... it's consistent with the way marvel's portrayed his voice in media so far... and it sorta suits the character

Hitflix said two weeks ago that Marvel was looking for an A-Lister to voice Rocket Raccoon.

Plus, I think Cooper is reluctant to do 5 or 6 films playing the same character.

It doesn't have that problem, but I think this is an assumption. I have always loved a story with alternate timelines so much more than any other type of science fiction theme. It's the ONE thing, a long with sentient AI that WILL ALWAYS suck me in.

See, I think that's lame, I feel like that's kind of the treatment Loki got.

The first movie established the avengers, I want to see a legitimate threat at this point. Something that is capable of overwhelming them. Hawkeye and widow and help, in the team, but I hope to god, Ultron should be powerful enough where Hawkeye and Widow don't even consider trying to fight him. If I see Widow duking it out with Ultron, I may walk out of the theater and give up on the MCU. Depowering him for the story is one thing, but I can only take so much of an awesome Villain being humiliated for the sake of "avengers"

Oh just relax :whatever:
