See I have no idea why people hate such a quotable movie. It's not nearly as terrible as Ghost Rider or Superman Returns

Fully agree. At least you can laugh. Ghost Rider and Superman Returns are both snoozefests.

I guess we should all be grateful for the train wreck that was B&R. Not only was it bad enough to be funny, but its commercial and artistic failure led to a complete reboot of the franchise and two great Batman movies!! Joel Schumacher: "You're welcome"

Schumacher gets too much blame for the failures of those films. Forever had some great moments, just not enough. The WB should take most of the blame for Batman and Robin. Schumacher has made some decent films, he's not a bad director.

There are at least a dozen CBMs that I would take Batman and Robin over. And not even ironically, it's just flat out more watchable.

Lol unless youre willing to list those "dozen CBMs", I find that very hard to believe. On its own terms, B&R is a TERRIBLE movie. Period. And Forever has NOT aged well. Even the good parts arent very good. Maybe future generations will be kinder to the Schumacher "era", but I kinda doubt it. As a director, Schumacher has had his ups and downs. My guess is that if all the right pieces are in place around him, he can produce a quality film. If not, the movie will probably be a mess. Examples of the latter: Incredible Shrinking woman (a guilty pleasure of mine actually), DC Cab, Cousins, Flatliners, B&R, 8mm, Phone Booth, Number 23, Twelve, Trespass. To be honest, even his best films - Lost Boys, Falling Down, The Client, Tigerland - are far from perfect. Compared to other directors of his generation who have worked fairly continuously over the last 30+ years, he is at best in the middle of the pack somewhere.

Im a pretty big CB fan, but if anything my standards for CBM's is HIGHER than it is for non-genre fare. And I have Joss Whedon, at least in part, to thank for this.

B&R sucks because it doesn't even try to be good. It may be one of those guilty pleasure type bad movies, but I don't think it's better than GR or Superman Returns (and I'm not saying either of those movies were good).

I think Superman Returns gets bashed unfairly

Its not as good as Superman 1 or 2, but its WAY better than 3 and 4

Man of Steel will be the best of all the Superman movies though, I would bet money on it :yay:

Agree completely Tony. SR was safe and dull and completely unnecessary homage/"sequel" to SM1&2. It was bad because it was unremarkable. B&R was bad for the same reason lots of movies are bad: bad writing, bad acting, bad costumes, lack of respect for the source material, etc... As a basis for a nerdy drinking/smoking game on a slow tuesday night, yeah i guess id rather watch B&R than say Blade 3. But so what?

No one (and i mean NO ONE) is using Superman 3&4 as a basis for comparison for ANYTHING. Practically speaking, those movies never existed. That said, I too am hoping for a kick ass MOS. Not a huge Snyder fan, but as a collaboration this has a good chance of working. I like the casting for the most part, and I have no problem with the updates and tweaks to the story. If you're gonna reboot a property, I say GO ALL THE WAY WITH IT.

I like Cavill, but I'm not convinced that he, nor anyone, would be able to make a Superman movie that is better than the first one, mainly because of Christophe Reeve's performance but also due to the classic John Williams score and the simple wonders that film elicits from its audience, even after decades. Frankly, I'm not sure how MOS will do just yet, but I found the recent comments from the young actor who plays an adolescent Clark Kent about how it will be darker makes me a bit wary about this movie.

To each his own. I agree that B&R is worse than most of those movies you listed, and therefore more entertaining in that so-bad-its-good kinda way. Bottom line: its a terrible, terrible movie in ANY genre. And I dont really s---e p-t anymore so the whole thing is moot.

And hey if you actually like the movie, just admit it. No shame here.

Those are all awful movies, but to my mind B&R is worse than any of them. I'm struggling to think of a single redeeming quality it had, whereas the likes of SR and Daredevil at least had a couple of good moments or characters within all the junk. I guess Uma Thurman's performance is kind of fun? It's campy, but good campy rather than Mr. Freeze campy. Other than that... ugh.

Watchmen was a great movie in my opinion

Does the hate come from readers of the comics and it is different to that source material?

I had never even heard of Watchmen before the movie came out, but after watching it, I thought it was a great film

Watchmen is such an awful movie. God I hate that movie.

Any interesting thought in it is a severely watered down version of a more interesting thought from the graphic novel.

The rest is slow-mo garbage and unfunny attempts at humor, like the sex scene.

Bleh.

I totally understand someone who has never read the Watchmen being impressed with it. Especially compared to lame SH movies like Ghost Rider. My guess is, what you liked about it was the vestiges of Moore and Gibbons work. Everything else - all the Snyder garbage basically - was ironically the exact opposite of the books tone/meaning/characterization etc. But if you havent read the books, the movie probably comes off as deep, gritty, "grown up".

I definitely don't think it's perfect, but it's still pretty solid IMHO.
