Does anybody think this movie crosses 1 billion by Sunday? It's entirely possible and would be pretty amazing.

Great hold for Monday. Should get a boost tomorrow for bargain Tuesday.

How can a site that posts pics of boobs that have nothing to do with the topic be crap?!

My gawd, anyone think this film will make $2B by the time it's run is done? I mean it's about to make $1B in like a week. That's insane!

(Edit: To Mr Immortal) It's on deadline as well: http://www.deadline.com/2012/05/disney-announces-avengers-2-in-development/

This won’t come as a surprise to anyone who sat through the credits of The Avengers, or who simply looked at the film’s record-breaking box office sales this past weekend. Still, fans (and investors) will be glad to hear that Disney CEO Bob Iger just announced that the company is developing a sequel. The film’s success “is a great illustration of why we like Marvel so much.” Demand for Avengers merchandise has been strong, he added.

I hope Joss is involved: he seemed to be very tired an eager to work on his own stuff on interviews...

The sad truth is, they will push forward with or without him. Also, I think he just needs to take a break from everything. The fact that he managed to put this movie together in such an insanely small timeframe is mind boggling.

Avengers 2 probably won't happen until 2015, so Joss will have some time before he has to make that choice.

I really hope he does come back. This movie would not have been what it was without Joss. It just wouldn't have been.

This movie is going to beat Avatar's record clean off so easy.

...because A) The fans love the movie and many of them hate Avatar, so they can't wait to see it be knocked down. By the end of next week, this movie will already have passed $900m worldwide and it's only going to motivate the geeks to watch it multiple times if they haven't already and B) There are a lot of people that still haven't seen it but will be persuaded to do so over time from all of the positive word of mouth and general interest, let alone C) Dark Shadows and Battleship are coming up next week(s) and there is NO ONE truly looking forward to those movies---The Dictator should bring in a lot of business, but I can't see it making it past #2 or #3. Men in Black 3 comes out the following week and after the big drop in sales between Men in Black 1 and 2, I'm going to assume that the appeal of the series is long gone and MIB3 is going to flop either commercially, financially, or both.

Even though there should be a significant drop in numbers for next weekend, Avengers should stay in the top five at the box office for at least four more weeks.

My prediction?

$1,175,000,000 worldwide

I really hope he does come back. This movie would not have been what it was without Joss. It just wouldn't have been.

Maybe Favreau's still available, the grass hasn't been greener on the other side for him. And every seemed to enjoy the Ironman stuff...

I love this gif! :woot:

I really hope not. I know they have a schedule to maintain, but it is imperative that they get Whedon back for the sequel, because without him I fear the sequel would fall apart. Not every director has his comic book knowledge and screenwriter's instinct, and TA would've been a very different movie without him. This isn't just Howard or Norton where they can replace with ease; this is monumental.

Can't wait for Comic Con this year! Hopefully they announce a release date for Avengers 2 and whatever else is releasing with Cap in 2014...PLEASE BE ANTMAN!
