The Avengers The Avengers Box-Office Prediction Thread - Part 4

It is currently 2012.

IM and Thor will be happening in 2013.

Cap will be happening the first part of 2014.

Avengers in the later half of 2014?

I'm not sure I follow your math, son.

marvel aren't going to do avengers AND another movie in the same year. they could afford to pull out all the stops (effects wise) because it was the only movie they had to concentrate on

I also think it might be a better idea to let the public recover from this movie for a good two years, too. They should be announcing the other 2014 film soon, so we'll find out either way.

Marvel has May 16, 2014 on lockdown already. Captain America 2 hits theaters on April 4, 2014. While I doubt that the May spot is reserved for Avengers 2, Sony must be quaking in its boots because the sequel to ASM has been announced for May 2, 2014. Whatever Marvel unleashes two weeks before Spidey's doubtful return is likely to blow the web-slinger right out of the multiplexes.

Sounds like the perfect time for a Hulk movie. :woot:

That May 2014 has me really intrigued because it'll probably signal which direction they are going for TA2.

Whatever that movie is it isn't going to come out in May 2014

I think it was maybe just a date they reserved just to have a possible release slot, but it probably gets moved to like July or August most likely if it's contributing to TA2.

It's tempting to push for TA2 to come out as soon as possible, but it would be self-defeating because I'm pretty sure that if it Marvel set the release date for 2014, we would lose Whedon. Every interview with him reads like: "so exhaaaausted" or "I'm going take a long, long break now," and I can't see him eager to jump back into making another giant tentpole blockbuster when his original creations are demanding his attention.

Give Marvel another 4 years to build up to TA2. That's what made this movie feel so special and "event-like" and pray that Robert Downey Jr. ages very, very slowly.

[Hi, everyone, new user and this is my first post!]

I agree. There's no need at all to jump the gun and rush out a subpar product. That's how you get movies like The Last Stand. Marvel has a plan; they need to stick to it. Two movies in 2013, two (maybe three?) in 2014, all building toward another mega-event in The Avengers 2 in 2015. This approach has already worked for them with Phase One, so there's no need to switch things up.

And welcome to the Hype, buttercup!

Twitter is hammering Dark Shadows. Critics' hatred seems to be reaching critical mass. The movie is every bit as bad as the trailer looks, according to those who have seen it.

"Dark Shadows"? Last act is an atrocious free-for-all mess. Moments of inspired lunacy amidst a tonal nightmare. Not 'Apes' or 'Alice' bad.

Kari Like Safari ‏ @KariLikeSafari
Saw screening of "Dark Shadows" tonight. SORELY disappointed w/ this lackadaisical film from Tim Burton & screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith.

Scott Weinberg ‏ @scottEweinberg
Here's the level of humor in Dark Shadows: "Alice Cooper is a man!??" and "Men like throwing ... balls. They love balls." Honestly.

Scott Weinberg ‏ @scottEweinberg
I'm saving my rants for my review. Dark Shadows is auto-piloted garbage. As a guy who's seen all of Burton's films, I'm insulted.

Scott Weinberg ‏ @scottEweinberg
Dark Shadows is every bit as awful as its trailer, only 108 minutes long. Merciless, boring, miserable product.

DS has three reviews on RT, one fresh and two rotten. Too soon to tell what the consensus will be, but the tweets above point towards dark shadows on the horizon for Burton & Depp's latest.

^^ that's dissaponting. I'm kind of looking forward to see the movie.

I agree that Marvel shouldn't and won't force TA2 into production so soon. However, four years may be too long to wait. A May 2015 release date should be doable if they plan properly.

Will Nolanites save the Dark Shadows, considering:

- It's from WB, parent company of DC
- It's the first hurdle to the Avengers

?

I don't want Avengers 2 in 2014. 2015 at the earliest. Rushing it out isn't going to be a positive.

I eagerly anticipated Dark Shadow up until I saw the first trailer. It had "bomb" written all over it. There were a few people who claimed to love it, but that sounded like whistling in the dark to me. Burton's travesty is all the more bitter to me because I loved DS as a kid and was initially thrilled that Johnny Depp would be donning Barnabus' cloak. Now he and his favorite director have destroyed any chance that Dark Shadows will ever be given the big screen treatment it deserves. Perhaps if it bombs hard enough Depp & Burton will break up for good and stop inflicting their increasingly awful creations on the public.

I just can't believe what happened with Dark Shadows. When it was first announced, it sounded like a perfect match. Johnny Depp as Barnabas, Tim Burton (who, as we all know, can absolutely nail darkness when he wants to) directing. It should have been a slam dunk.

What are they gonna do? Buy tickets to Dark Shadows, then sneak into The Avengers? :lmao:

I agree to this statement. No need to rush it, I think most of us still have The Avengers hungover :woot::woot::woot::woot:

Is it the comedy that's in the trailers that's dissapoint you?

I'm hoping that MAYBE it isn't as comedic as the trailer suggest, that it's done simply for marketing purpose.

It sure seems like that the tone of the whole movie is very much like what the trailers are showing.

Captain America 2 in April
ASM 2 in May
X-Men 2 in June
Ant-Man in August-November

2015 sounds good for The Avengers 2, it's not too soon or long a wait, IMO.

Agreed 1000%!

Yeah. Just goes to show that when you do get a slam dunk like THE AVENGERS, you should be very very grateful.
