What are they gonna do? Buy tickets to Dark Shadows, then sneak into The Avengers? :lmao:

LMAO!

Don't give them ideas.

However I am waiting for them to start praising DS as 'underrated' and 'not that bad' and then stating how it should have knocked THE AVENGERS from the #1 spot. :whatever:

I still trust in Burton. Loved Alice, liked even many things about Apes, and while im happy for Joss that ge gets great reviews, i dont really give a damnn about reviews myself. And i loved the trailer.

Dark Shadows, in Tim i trust. :yay:

PD: I have seen everything Dark Shadows, original series, both films, the 80 shortlived remake... Love Curtis. Think Frid is one of the great vampires of all time... and i dont give a damn if Burton has made his own thing. Dark Shadows was Curtis baby, this one is Burtons.

Marvel has May 16, 2014 on lockdown already. Captain America 2 hits theaters on April 4, 2014. While I doubt that the May spot is reserved for Avengers 2, Sony must be quaking in its boots because the sequel to ASM has been announced for May 2, 2014. Whatever Marvel unleashes two weeks before Spidey's doubtful return is likely to blow the web-slinger right out of the multiplexes.

I'd wait to see the reaction to ASM before saying that.

having never seen a single episode of DS, is it a comedy?

It's tempting to push for TA2 to come out as soon as possible, but it would be self-defeating because I'm pretty sure that if it Marvel set the release date for 2014, we would lose Whedon. Every interview with him reads like: "so exhaaaausted" or "I'm going take a long, long break now," and I can't see him eager to jump back into making another giant tentpole blockbuster when his original creations are demanding his attention.

Give Marvel another 4 years to build up to TA2. That's what made this movie feel so special and "event-like" and pray that Robert Downey Jr. ages very, very slowly.

[Hi, everyone, new user and this is my first post!]

Hi.
Welcome to SHH.
I prefer 3 years though.

Is it the comedy that's in the trailers that's dissapoint you?

I'm hoping that MAYBE it isn't as comedic as the trailer suggest, that it's done simply for marketing purpose.

Comedy is fine if done with a deft touch. Comedy should be funny, and what I've seen of DS both in the trailers and the clips is the furthest thing from funny I can imagine.

I just dont see this movie making its budget back at all, its shame this experiment has back-fired on Marvel.

I remember hearing that quite a lot before hte film was released :woot:

Exactly, now the movie may not be the most successful of the year, we just dont know yet, but its a success for Marvel and thats the main thing. I just hope it makes them step things up a little in the solo movies as well.

I've seen discussions from people here about how Marvel the rookie studio has to learn how to spend their money properly, and once everything backfires they'll finally understand. I guess that random comic fans on the internet know more about running a movie studio than people involved in movie studios for over a decade.

This opening weekend figure is just crazy. Got to be the biggest margin of breaking the record. Can't see anything breaking Avengers' record by that much (in percentage terms).

Well I hope Marvel have learned their lesson now! :woot:

Not in the slightest. Its a soap opera broadcast dayly, taped but performed like it was live (no time nor money to redo a take unless it was unusable; wich makes you admire the actors even more, as mistakes are quite seldom) but with vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts, mistery, magic, time travel...

Its basically gothic horror melodrama put into soap, but it really, really works exceptionally well and it has some great storylines. The first 200 episodes or so are gothic drama, but when the vampire Barnabas came in, supernatural meshed perfectly with the Collins family saga.

The tone in general is very dark, horror and suspense married to drama.

^Marvel has made plenty of mistakes along the way, unnecessary re-casts, the direction of IM2, upsetting some actors/directors along the way, but i'm hope the succes of TA puts them on the right road from now on.

you have to wonder why burton even bothered if he isn't going to respect the source material.

I dont care about respect for the source material. Sometimes an artist loves a particular story and idea, a few characters, a tone, but would have done something completely diferent with it. Well then, theres your chance.
