It will hit 1.5 billion without Japan. It's run 52 days in the US. Avatar and TDK ran north of 230+ days, so TA will be running for another 6 months. It's currently making double per day what TDK did at the same point and with only 20% drops week after week, vs TDKs 40% drops, it should easily hit 625M domestic and another $25M internally without Japan.
I thought TA was nearing the end of it's theatrical run, but man am I glad to see that it's nowhere near over yet. I can't wait till all is said and done and we get a final figure for how much this thing has pulled in. It's already massive so I can't even imagine what it's going to finish up at.

Yea, but then there's the old inflation thing again. When I saw Titanic.....actuallly when I was dragged to it by my girlfriend now wife over a dozen times, we frequently ran into sold out showings 4 months into and full theaters 6 months into. Tickets were only $7.50 for an evening show...essentially half of what they are today.

Frankly, I don't really care about inflation, because if they take that into account, Avatar won't even be the #1 box office champ. We should just take the box office figures at face value and not trying to rationalize how another movie could've taken its spot if it weren't for inflation.

Avatar is the #1 box office hit world wide even when you account for inflation.

But even then, there were many more theaters and a higher population world wide than there were in 1997.

This is why both adjusted and un-adjusted figures are tracked.

Yep, & there would never have been any final gross box office records since GWTW & there would never be any more in future either. BoxOfficeMojo would be the most boring site on the net lol.

But in all fairness none of their releases have chugged along at this movies pace.

The Avengers 06-25-12 (Monday):

$962,092

It leaped from MIB last week, and now Rock of Ages. Next week... Snow White?

Total = $599,387,534

Cheers!

Today is the day it hits $600 million (about $600.2 million)

Actually, it's not. That would be "Gone with the Wind". Number 2 is Star Wars ANH.

Seriously....600 million... think about that... not even the greatest optimist would have believed that a few months ago...

So now the only question is how close does the initial release get to titanic's numbers... 615 to 625 is the probable range... amazing (even with inflation, lol)

Damn, I was really hoping for another week of 1 million hauls before TASM. :csad:

I only pay 13 dollars when I see a movie in 3d. Its usually more like 9 dollars I think here.

Would The Avengers have grossed more than 207 million dollars opening weekend if Edward Norton had kept his job?

Edward Norton isn't exactly a big box office star. He's a name. But his name alone doesn't pull big grosses.

The difference would be negligible for the opening as people didn't necessarily go because of Banner.

God no. Norton, a talented actor, starred in TIH and rewrote the script. It barely turned a profit.

Given the ensemble nature of the The Avengers, he very well could have upset the chemistry on that set with his desire to control things. The last thing Joss Whedon needed to deal with was someone like Edward Norton.

If Ruffalo had been subpar, I guess you could make a case for Norton (maybe), but that didnt happen. Many people found his Banner and Hulk to be the best part of the whole movie.

i actually think Norton would make a good Norman Osborn. So if he wants to stick it to Marvel, he should consider auditioning . Maybe Marc Webb will find him to be less of a pain in the ass.

I'm already looking forward to the insane levels of hype for Avengers 2. Man, if IM3, Thor 2 and Cap 2 are all good... sheesh. Most hyped movie ever?

Will they even need an advertising budget? :yay:

Damn, it's done.
Avengers officially crossed 600 million.
Amazing.....

No, I think Marvel would laugh all the way to the bank as they profit from Spidey as well.

Well my prediction of TA hitting $600 million Saturday was wrong. So I'm gonna say it will finish at $630 million and if they re-release it it will pass Titanic.

Real D here in the Bay Area is $15.50 and IMAX is $17.50.

Where I live in Merced, Real D is only $13.50, but a full price evening showing in 1997 here was $5.50 vs $7.50 in the Bay Area where I work.

"Battleship and Dark Shadows are going to halt The Avengers in its tracks"

"Potter's opening weekend record is safe from The Avengers"

"The Avengers is going to gross just slightly more than Iron Man overall"

"The Avengers will fall short of The Dark Knight's total"

"600 million domestic? 1.5 billion worldwide?! Yeah, RIGHT"

Ah, good times. :yay:

Marvel has pulled their films in the past ahead of dvd releases.

Yea maybe if it was chugging alone at $50k a day or something, but as long as it's making $150K+ day, they won't pull it. They'd be leaving too much on the table. I'm going to buy the blu-ray regardless and the longer the leave it in theaters, the more it will make and the more times I'll go and see it.
