Not a big fan of the Noel costume either. Hope it's a bit more simplistic in terms of design. I do like that they'll be using that type of fabric Captain America had for his costume in the Avengers. Many people suggested that early on so that's a good route to take.

The less busy the design is the better.
I thought that it was pretty much confirmed that the suit will look like a hybrid between Frank Miller and jim lee's Batman.

Eh, I hope. It's no secret that they go through more than one type of design though when making these costumes.

Who knows what they settled on. I hope it's more simplistic in terms of design. I really do.

So, no blue/grey. Again, we're getting armour in some parts of his costume and a special robo suit to fight superman in the end...Somewhat disappointing :o

I know... We'll see, we'll see... Fingers crossed.

Did you get a chance to check out my manips based on Vigilant's image? Thought you might like it.

Have you ever taken a crack at doing your thang to the Noel suit? I have a feeling we're going to get the Noel suit's texture, and Jim Lee's take on the Frank suit, with the Frank-the-Tank suit from Dark Knight Returns making an appearance at the end. Would sure love to see your skills at work trying to make all that look as not-****** as possible.

You mean this?
We have it on pretty damn good authority that the suit won't feature blue color, even very dark blue, so I've stopped putting that in my manips. It's a shame, but I don't need blue more than I need the duo-tone with a gray body color, a utility belt that looks like it can actually hold stuff, and as I increasingly come to believe, SOMETHING other than eye-makeup that makes his eyes look more-than-human.

I like it a lot. It is a very well done translation of the comic book costume for a movie costume. Although it needs some tweaks in the texture and the lighting to look more cinematic and real world. Ugh, I hope at least they don't get overboard with the armour and we get a 50/50 black/grey fabric.

He reports that the Batsuit's "a sort of fabric uniform — not cloth or spandex, mind you — similar to what Captain America wears in the Marvel movies, with some armoring mixed in."

Not sure what I think about that really - I'm worried a bit. I just hope it doesn't look too bulky and padded. The CA suit looks good for Cap, but Batman needs more definition. I was hoping it would lean more towards the MOS bodysuit look, but with the classic Batman flare of course.

I'm not sure that the comment really tells us anything, other than it isn't spandex, which no one wanted or expected.

To me, it looks more like it was in BB...a more 'rubber' like cowl material, then a seam between it and a more cloth-like cape (especially in the center). I'd like to see what it's like with no separating seam and the same 'sheen'/texture.

I think you're right. So you want to see the cowl look like the cape or visa versa? To me, the idea of the cowl and cape being made out of the same material is kind of a non-starter.

I did do a few tweaks though based on your comment that it's more BB like than a modern cowl should be, but I'm not sure anyone is going to like it (in fact I'm pretty sure they won't)...

Articulating plates for the neck, and a defensive collar. I know the collar is nearly forbidden, but I like it because it follows the silhouette of a Detective's trenchcoat, and mostly because it would make sense for Batman to want his neck to be a highly defended area. The collar+articulating neckpiece is, imho, the best solution to the "how do I turn my head?" dilemma. The fact that TDK(R) suit even adresses this question is the only thing I like about it...

Anyway, I'm sure that the above will be laughed at, but there's nothing wrong with it from a tactical standpoint that I can tell, and in better hands than mine, it could look cool to boot.

Kal - I've definitely dug your recent tweaks of this design (especially the short ears, although I prefer them this long) - you should go ahead and check out the cowl/cape idea, for all I know it'll look great. I also don't have an advanced program and can't get photoshop to load on my computer, so I don't know how to do the Frank symbol but w/ a better texture than the velvety (rather, leathery) one that I used in my other manips of this model... I'd definitely love to see that though!!!

"A sort of fabric uniform". I don't see what everyone is worried about. All the article did was confirm that it's not rubber or metallic. I'm sure it will look great.

A real life version of the new 52 would be the best option to take

A real life version of the new 52 would be the best option to take

Why? The New 52 suit is in no way the end all be all. Especially since we haven't gotten a classic comic inspired suit since Adam West.

I don't mind the neck. Not a fan of the collar, though.

Here's an attempt at the neck w/o the collar.

Also, tried taking a crack at the All Star Batman logo (which I have a feeling we're getting), but more in the style of the texture of the Arkham logo on the version of this manip that people liked more...

The neck doesn't look so hot, especially w/o the collar for contrast. But the stiff-neck one-piece cowl really can't make another appearance.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for ways I could tweak the original manip to have an articulating head/neck other than this plate design?

Just for fun, here is he with his sculpted neck back, and a new belt. I know some people think "why would he have a yellow belt if he doesn't have a yellow symbol?" Well, for those people...

batmanipbelt.jpg

Still trying to think of a better way to do the neck.

Cool....one less 'spoke' on either side of the new symbols wings, perhaps.

oh man, I hate the logo, but I think it's fairly accurate to the All-Star/Goddamn batman one. With some of these manips, I'm just trying to work out some of my greatest fears. The Frank Miller logo is one of my least favorite ever, and since Ben/Snyder are supposedly such big Frank Miller fans, I'm trying to get used to it... =P

I can't "un-see" the cape flipped back over the shoulders in Vigilant's manip.

Doesn't it just drape over his shoulders? If it was a straight flip back, are we saying that his cape drapes over the front of his body and he flips it backwards? If it draped over his front and also back and he flipped it, wouldn't there be two capes in the back?

I think it's just a cape that drapes over his shoulders...

Let me just say up front that I know we've seen the Cap suit used in Batman manips in the past, but since reading that Forbes article earlier today, referencing Cap's suit material and possible armoring in certain places, I thought I'd give it another try and see how it would look. Not perfect by any means (not even sure how I like it), but it gives an idea of the route they may be taking. I don't care for the boots much, but I didn't change them from the original image...

The 'flipped'/folded back I always associate with Superman...I prefer draped over shoulders on Batman.

Yeah I was just reffering to Vigilant's manips. To me it looks like the cape would almost envelope Batman but it's been flipped over his shoulders.

Still trying to think of a better way to do the neck.

Nolan supposedly wanted the Lindy Hemming batsuit to have a black belt, but Goyer insisted that it had to be yellow. If he did, in fact, push for that, against Nolan's wishes, I don't really see why he'd change his mind now.

New symbol, 'seamless' cowl-to-cape, slightly smaller belt.

I dig it! I really don't like the natural eyes, but I realize that is a pretty evenly divided camp. I also don't love that eye-ridge thing. I think I did a pretty good job of smoothing out the cowl after you pointed it out last night, and I think the smooth cowl with your short ears would be the best look yet (for a short eared batman, certainly).

Flipped back like the '89 suit.

I can't believe I never noticed that's what they were doing. So odd!!

I could most definitely live with this. As always, your work is great!!!

Here's my latest, an attempt at figuring out the neck issue.

batmanipbeltsoftneck.jpg

Just a soft neck, like the rest of the normal suit, which is made of protective fabric. Personally, I really think you need a collar, especially if you have the neck stuff made out of that flexi-fabric, but what do I know...

and just for fun, Batman with Mega-man style blasters ;)

It is probably better than the suit from the game. I think this is a good look for not too armory, not "spandex", but also traditional looking.

Texture is a real key into making a tradional looking Batsuit look legit for film.

Short....

Long.....

I've always wondered if a short-eared version would work in a live-action design, as I always liked the Miller version. Gotta say...if they can, I'd like to see a 'short-ear' cowl to also differentiate the design from previous movies (as well as the black/grey). I think the shorter ears give a little more emphasis to a trunk-like head and neck...maybe more emphasis to the eyes.

In this case, I prefer the short ears. But I wouldn't mind seeing an "ear jump" for his solo film or JL. Kind of like the difference between New Adventures and JL, visually speaking.

I think this will be close, with the exception of the logo and the short ears. I think they will be more Miller-esque.
