Yeah sorry to quote from so far back

But the eyes themselves do still show a lot of emotion. Ledger's Joker, for instance seemed to have his eyes darting around a lot and narrowing which added a lot of nuance to the physical performance and really helped to bring the manic psychopath to life that little bit more.

That works for Joker due to the chaotic nature of his mind. Batman has always been more stoic.

Batman certainly puts on a front of being an emotionless tactician for the most part, but the emotional turmoil within bursts out quite often. Mosts comics depict him snarling into a villain's face at some point.

Which can be done via facial acting. We are kind of doing a disservice to the actor by making it seem as though the eyes are the end all be all for getting a convincing performance across. Good actors work within their confines.

I know the one thing that people are scared won't translate is the way Batman's eyes are able to naturally squint and take on different shapes. I think that's where contact lenses can come in.

But there is so much unknown in terms of how it will look, people are tentative. We have over 20 years of Batmen with exposed eyes on the big screen (not counting West), so it will be hard to deviate from that and win people over.

I agree that worked for Joker, but Batman is a different charscter all together. His personality should never require him to look manic with eyes darting around IMO.

Even then there are certain subtleties a naked eye has over even contact lenses. The glistening of a natural light only enhanced with post. Doing that against a completely white background can prove itself a bit less meaningful.

I would love for the white eyes to pop up every now and then and for them to go the Dr. Manhattan route where it looks like white contacts but it doesn't have to be completely throughout.

Bale and Keaton were pretty good at keeping the whole stilled eyed glare intact though. They both looked ridiculously focused. They're the only ones that perfect the live action Batman glare if you ask me.

Yeah I meant more the concept of the eyes emoting as opposed to just the brows. Hell, it's not like you've ever even been able to see Batman's eyebrows in live action anyway. Prosthetic cowl which allows the brows to emote like the comics + Dr. Manhattan eyes are the way to go

I think it would be good if sometimes he had some sort of lenses and sometimes he didn't. Everyone gets what they want in that case.

They should use this fleshy type of material for the cowl if you ask me to allow Ben to emote with his brow a bit more while it still containing something of a sculpted brow.

A silicon based cowl is definitely the way to go if you ask me. Something along the lines of this material. They've already had some practice with using something akin to that in MOS to emphasize the muscles of the Kryptonian suits.

I like that idea. It would allow the cowl to be more form-fitting and avoid that bobble head look.

Not to get all Nolan on you, but how would you realisitically explain a cowl that acts like a second skin yet protects his head at the same time?

It would also allow for the actor to still keep his mobility and be able to turn around his neck. The Kryptonian costumes moved do well that most would never even venture out and guess that the suit had an under portion of silicon to it.

The ears would be hardened a bit more and the look of it can easily be explained by some sort of liquid armor based tech.

To be honest though not everything needs an explanation with a minute of exposition to it. I've had enough of that to be honest. Can we give the audience the benefit of the doubt to suspend their disbelief. As long as it looks good I don't think people will be asking to many questions anyway.

I'm with you. I just asked out of curiousity because you know people will ask without fail.

Yeah, the mobility is important. I want him to seem agile.

If we finally got a bat suit that looks good to me, I would definitely not complain.

Need to see it, need to see it now. :(
The more I imagine it and talk about it the deeper the intensity and yearning grows in regards to seeing the first reveal.

Our bodies are ready.

I totally agree about having a prosthetic facial area and Dr Manhattan type eyes. That would look pretty great- never depicted by Batman on screen before!

rigid skullcap.

The Begins cowl was only armour from the nose up anyway:

Totally agree!!!!

Since this is going to get lost as the page breaks, figured I'd sneak in a quick n ****** Dark Fleck Returns pic :D

These were so well done, kudos to Ridley. There were several moments in the film where I debated myself over whether that was a real body. It looked too good to be cgi, but also too perfect to be authentic. Pleasant surprise to watch the behind-the-scenes.

More than anything I'm more curious over how they'll do the cowl than the suit itself. It's a look we'll be "stuck" with for the next decade and is the most important part of the look, so here's hoping they nail it. As much as people deride the rubber, I'm also just as ready to let go of the rigid helmet and raccoon eyes.

You seem unable to follow a logical chain. Since the darkness will not be "dark" for the audience, the eyes will still be visible to them without specific illumination.
