BvS The Batsuit Thread - - - - - - Part 29

I talked about it in the Supersuit thread with a somewhat negative reaction. :woot:

Jokes aside, to me the Supersuit and Batsuit are just what Schumacher did, but with even more muscles, added vasculature, removal of nipples, and the appearance of a skin-tight cloth over naked bodies. Snyder and Wilkinson just took it to a new level. It's why I kinda laugh at the suits when I look at them sometimes.

So you think this...

Is taking it to a more laughably level of musculature than this...
th

At least Snyder's looks more natural in the musculature - Schumacher's was just too defined and fake looking. I mean it looked cool for what it was I suppose, but Batfleck looks like a muscular guy with a layer of protective fabric over it.

As for the Supersuit - have you seen Cav-El with his shirt off?! He looks almost just like the suit he's wearing. It's not a stretch at all to think it's just him under that Kryptonian material.

They both look ridiculous and funny to me, for different reasons.

Snyder's suits look fake too.

Doesn't matter what the actors look like with their shirts off. I'm talking about the suits.

I never thought that the definition on the suit was from his muscles. I thought it was there to make him look really efffing huge.

Even if they both display sculpted musculature, the fabric makes all the difference. Excessive rubber will almost always evoke fetish wear in a low-budget porno.

So I guess I'm just curious on what you wanted the suits to look like. Are you a S:TM and 66' Batman purist? Or more the Nolan armor route?

Indeed. I really see no similarity. In any way.

Reeve Superman and West Batman purist.
That was a lie.

So honesty, if you could see your ideal suits for these two characters up on the big scene in all their glory, what would they look like?

Snyder's suit looks like if you gave a cosplayer an unlimited budget, Schumacher's looks like if you gave a fetish player a decent sized budget.

I'm more partial to the style Marvel has gone for their more street-level heroes.

I'm not generally a fan of the exaggerated muscles look but Snyder's overall aesthetics saved it from turning it into a Schumacher redux.

Pretty much lose all the exaggerated musculature. At most, something like the Raimi Spidey suits.

As someone once said, the YJ toon Batsuit is a pretty great modern take. So, I would do something like that, but with the yellow oval. Also, dark blue similar to what Clooney's suit used.

Superman would look more like his classic design. A much shorter cape to differentiate from other superheroes who use capes too. Kind of like what he had in the All-Star comics and the Brave & the Bold toon.

^ I don't want it that short, but shorter than it is, yeah.

You and I have very different opinions on the matter.

Almost all suits benefit from being seen in film and in motion.

Which is an amazing thought, given how superb Batfleck's suit looks from stills and spy footage.

I have to admit, as much as I like how the suit looks, the muscle definition is kind of crazy, and not exactly what I would have gone for. Usually a fabric suit over any kind of muscles (or muscle suit) will smooth out the muscles a bit, but somehow this suit adheres to the muscles perfectly, showing every contour an indentation. It really does look half-way between a fabric suit and a sculpted one.

I'm really curious as to how they achieved that, actually. Did they physically glue or sew parts of the suit into the cracks between the muscles?

I'm expecting a thorough interviews and behind the scenes in a special collector's blue ray edition which i will most definately be getting my hands on. i'm sure it'll be explained there, this is wayyy too exciting and 'refreshing' not to be subject of a behind the scenes part.

Yeah but most modern Blu Rays/DVDs don't go into that much detail or have good documentaries any more. The MOS blu didn't have anything that great and I don't remember there being much about the costume (which had some pretty interesting and new techniques of its own).

Cinefex magazine would probably be the best bet to get the real nitty gritty info, I would say.

Yeah, there's something about Snyder's style that feels somewhat similar to Schumacher for me, and I could never put my finger on why I felt that way. I wouldn't be surprised if the supersuit thread actually did give you a negative reaction.

The response wasn't that negative. But, it was expected. I mean, depending on how you view it, the connection of the Schumacher and Snyder suits may never show up for you. It's just simply the over use of muscles.

I get what they're going for with Superman. The whole appearance that it's some skin-tight underwear that Kryptonians wore under other stuff (hard to buy though, but ok). Batman's is more amusing since Affleck clearly doesn't have that body. Muscles are even coming through the gloves and boots (and I thought Snyder went a little overboard with the veins in MOS).

So, in the end, if they hadn't made the suits to look so much like comics' depiction of male bodies (which is already ridiculous on paper), I wouldn't find them as funny.

I'm leaning more on the All-Star style of how it was shorter on the sides and got longer towards the middle rather than just flat like Brave & the Bold. I think the New 52 has been show like at times.

The idea isn't to be realistic here, but to honor the comics where their muscles are so dang super that you can see over whatever fabric they are wearing.

You mean, you'd prefer that Batman wear practical-looking clothes instead of a costume?

Batman's is more amusing since Affleck clearly doesn't have that body.

He may not have the mass or vascularity, but the musculature and frame are based on Affleck's.

It's like if Affleck was younger and he stuffed himself with intense steroid cycles, along with cutting all body fat, he could look like that.

oh man...i gotta get the **** outta this thread before I stab something...someone tell me when this **** is over

For someone who is meant to represent the peak human human condition (or at least close to it), there is absolutely nothing unrealistic or exaggerated about the musculature of his suit. Walk into any big gym or fitness center and you will see dozens of people with similar physiques, and that's not including the roided-out juiceheads who look even bigger than this.

I'm a little baffled by the Schumacher comparisons. Yes, both suits utilize some form of artificial musculature, but this is like comparing apples to oranges.
