He looks the same to me in those pictures. Like I said, he looks like a powerlifter to me. He has the trademark wide, blocky waist. He's not as graceful or lithe as his 70's look or even Capullo's Batman.

I'm not complaining at all, I'm just calling it how I see it. I also have no problem with him looking like a powerlifter, it's not a knock by any means, and it denotes a no-nonsense strength about him. I like the contrast to Cavill's more heroic, aesthetic proportions.

Bro, the modern average NFL wide reciever is not even close to looking like that. You chose arguably the biggest wide receiver in the history of the NFL...

Ok, but there are still numerous examples of other NFL athletes (such as running backs), MMA fighters, and even sprinters who have similar physiques. My point still stands that Batfleck's physique is more athlete than it is bodybuilder or powerlifter and, as TheShape pointed out, not at all far off from Capullo's Batman. I'll give you that Batfleck waist isn't as small, but I chalk that up to comic book embellishment.

^Don't disagree with anything here

Powerlifting is a sport and powerlifters are athletes...it's not a knock to say Batfleck looks like one. These days gymgoers would often rather identify themselves as a powerlifter than a bodybuilder, because one is strength oriented and the other is primarily for looks.

Just Google "power lifter" and see that a majority of the pictures do not line-up with how Batfleck looks.

The tedium is making me feel like I need to unsubscribe.

Someone please PM me if we get more pictures of Batfleck.

I think if Batman were to look like this on film

I think'd that be fine

I still think this looks a little ludicrous though

Part of me wonders if Batman may actually appear physically different in the Ayers vs Snyder depiction?

It's the same suit obviously but different filming techniques can make a difference in how big Batman appears.

Ayers is known for a more real grittiness while Snyder is known for not that.

Highly doubtful.

We're talking about one shot from the BvS that doesn't even clearly show Batman's full physique...

Ayers is known for a more real grittiness while Snyder is known for not that.

What does this have to do with Batman's bulk? If there is a difference in the size of that stuntman's Batman suit, it would probably only amount to centimeters or inches to account for the difference in their builds. It should be obvious that they used a stuntman with a physique that closely resembles Affleck's though.

I'm just saying Snyder is a fan of pronounced muscular physiques and exaggerating that, there were quite a few lingering shots just of Cavil's abs in MoS.

I would not be surprised if in a movie where he'll be squaring off against Superman again directed by Snyder, Batman will be depicted visually more imposing than in the Ayers films where he's squaring off against the Joker.

It's actually a comic trope that Batman's size tends to change based on the story.

Just Google "power lifter" and see that a majority of the pictures do not line-up with how Batfleck looks.

Yeah, that's a totally reliable way to support your argument...:whatever: Okay then, what should we google to find the majority lining up with how Batfleck looks?

I assure you, whatever lines up with Batfleck has done powerlifting. You simply don't get that big and strong-looking without it. The NFL player someone referenced on the last page (as an argument against Batfleck looking like a powerlifter, ironically) is also a powerlifter. Every single NFL player is. That's why they test their lift numbers before they get drafted, and that's why each team has a leaderboard in their locker room of who has the biggest lifts. Batman has been shown lifting heavy weights countless times in the comics, powerlifting is a major component of his training...

I really don't understand why you have such a problem with saying a guy who clearly powerlifts looks like a powerlifter. Unless you think he got those big muscles by eating his veggies?

I understand the distinction (I'm actually a competitive Olympic weightlifter as well as a Crossfit coach) and yes a powerlifter is an "athlete". What I mean is that I think Batfleck looks more athletic than your typical powerlifter. If anything, he more closely resembles top crossfitter Rich Froning:

That's a sport that requires an extreme level of power, speed, agility, endurance, bodyweight strength, mobility, and coordination; all qualities befitting of Batman.

^I was actually just about to bring up Froning and how closely he relates to Batman physically. Good call

I think you're confusing strength training with powerlifting. One is a method of assistance training to better prepare themselves for the demands of a given sport or activity, the other IS a sport. I don't think anyone's arguing whether or notBatfleck looks like he lifts weight, merely that he doesn't look like your typical powerlifter who tend to carry much more muscle mass and fat mass.

Kinda random but what do you make of Efron's physique?

He's kinda got the superhero look going on now.

That wasn't really me trying to support an argument as much as it was me making a factual statement.

I think you and I are not thinking of the same thing in reference to the term "powerlifting". Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Powerlifters are generally big, puffy dudes (depending on the weight class) and their muscles don't often have the kind of definition that we're seeing on Batfleck.

This is what I imagine when I hear the term "powerlifter":

IPF_World_Champion_Dean_Bowring_performing_the_three_Powerlifting_moves.jpg

I would never think of Batman as someone who is exclusively a powerlifter. Rather, he is someone who lifts weights (among other things) and a portion of his workouts certainly may consist of power lifts. I said previously in this thread that you can walk into almost any big gym or fitness center and see guys with physiques like Batfleck's, but that doesn't necessarily mean those people are powerlifters. Lifting heavy weights in general doesn't equate to the term "powerlifting", nor does lifting heavy weights in a workout routine mean that you will have the physique that most powerlifters are known to have.

The sculpt of Batfleck's suit is well-defined. He's big, but also leans more to the side of lean body mass than powerlifter/bodybuilding mass. He looks like someone who is at his peak physical condition; not someone who only cares about maxing out the heaviest sets possible or being big. My point is that powerlifting is not the equivalent of weight lifting or strength training, and that you and I might not have been on the same page about the terminology.

Exactly. Thank you.

It's obvious now that this little debate was all over terminology, because I agree with everything you said in this post. It would be ludicrous to say Batfleck looks like the powerlifter you posted, and if that's the image people are getting when I use the word then I apologize. My use of the term powerlifter was not at all meant to invoke that image, but rather one of a serious lifter who lifts for strength and not looks. Not the actual professionals. Basically, like the Crossfitter Rich Froning, who nicely embodies the physical aspects of Batman.

I was using the term powerlifter because I thought it reflected the blockier physique of Batfleck more so than any other type of athlete, but my bad for starting this debate because of my misuse of the word.

He's kinda got the superhero look going on now.

He sure does! Another actor who recently bulked up and now has a physique befitting Batman is Jake Gyllenhaal.

I hope Regwec is alright. This thread is probably making him gag right now :oldrazz:

Let's remember that Bruce Wayne's physique and that of the actual batsuit arent the same. When we're seeing the batsuit, we arent seeing Bruce Wayne's physique.

I actually wouldn't mind Zac Efron as Hal Jordan if they decide to go with that GL.

yeah it's great comparasing but I think this dude is much shorter.

Yeah, I like that. Gives an "old bear" vibe.

Affleck actually looks more like those statues to me when he's out of costume. At least in all those paparazzi pics that had been posted around here.
