I will have to watch his first appearance in the show soon. I guess when the first pictures of him leaked years ago, I felt like he didn't have the "Superman" look. But I will give him a fair chance once I'm caught up. Superman has always been my #1 so I hope I like it. :)

I'll be honest, when I first saw pictures of him in the suit he didn't quite work for me either. But having actually watched him in action I think he does a really great job :)

The only complaint, that I've seen a lot, is that Supergirl is more powerful than him.
She did beat him in the one on one fight didn't she. That said, it's been thought by some (including Batman) in the comics that Supergirl might be even more powerful than Superman, although it was later thought that it was more likely the case that lacking his experience she also lacked his restraint so tended to 'fully unload' every time, appearing more powerful. If he does get his own show I'm sure they'll take care of that somehow :)

Oh yeah.Things could change for him, no doubt.

I thought it was the general consensus and depicted in the comics that Supergirl is more powerful than Superman? Something to do with arriving on Earth as a teenager, and how her body reacted to the yellow sun. It was also mentioned in the animated movie "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse".

It was at that time, but when you read Loeb's 'Power' arc in Supergirl's own title which follows on from The Supergirl from Krypton (adapted into Superman/Batman: Apocalypse) you get the 'less experience/restraint' answer from Superman.

Is the guy from Supergirl playing Superman in the TV series? I honestly have not watched Supergirl, so I know nothing of his portrayal of the character. What's the general consensus of him?
Consensus overall seemed quite positive to me. Critics certainly loved him. The people online who usually hate on the CW shows weren't converted or anything, because you still have to buy into their particular brand of cheese to enjoy it, but even they didn't seem to be able to find anything in his performance to hate on, because the only recurring criticisms from them I ever saw directed at him were about his look.

If I were to describe his performance, I'd say his Clark is clearly heavily influenced by Dean Cain's most of all, while his Superman is more of a George Reeves/Chris Reeve hybrid with a little of his own more modern flavor thrown in.

Oh, okay. I had already accepted that Supergirl was more powerful than Superman. It didn't really bother me, since she was another Kryptonian and they're closely related.

I don't follow the Supergirl show that greatly, but do see an episode when I can. When talk started of Hoechlin possibly getting a spinoff show (and lack of MOS/Cavill news) I watched all the Superman episodes to see what he was like. I enjoyed it for what it was, it was light and he wasn't in that much to really explore him that deeply as a character. But it was fun and I don't mind his look, and got used to the cape straps. The CW superhero shows do tend to get cheesy and a bit mopey and their limited TV budgets tend to show but they're still enjoyable.

The problem is: Luthor should introduced in a Superman show, not in Supergirl.

Well don't you know that Supergirl is replacing Superman in pop culture? :o

Well, this is not entirely false. Luthor in her series and rumors of Brainiac in her possible movie. Those are essential characters/elements of Superman mythos and universe. They should be introduced in Superman series/movies.

Well it's not as if Supergirl will be the first one encountering him, even in her world. Superman and Lex's history has been long established in that show.

The rumours of a Superman movie are starting up again. @thecomixkid and @danielRPK on Twitter are hinting at some sort of news soon. Possibly soft reboot, cameo, recasting Cavill, something like that?

FWIW:

I’m guessing Henry is going to do the Shazam cameo as a show of good faith for WB and to try and smooth things over.

Superman is his entire career. He would be foolish to let that go because he is being too stingy with money.

I hope that the movie can film next year for a 2020 release. it would be a shame not to continue.

Yeah, I mean if the next film hit the mark things would suddenly be very different and it would be a great role to have, and the money would follow.

Wait, KC Walsh is saying that the TV series rumor was shot down? The Lois and Lex castings make it a believable possibility.

I can’t imagine them carrying on with Cavill especially after these reported negotiations shenanigans. He has that Netflix tv show and WB will redo things.

So now people are backtracking saying there is nothing going on with Superman.

Disappointing, but not unexpected.

Moving on, I’d like the next Superman film to tackle “truth” as a theme. Not only would it be a great way to make Clark Kent and the Daily Planet staff relevant to the story, but it’d be very interesting to explore the complexities of an icon like Superman preaching the ideals of truth while lying to billions of people everyday about who he really is.

It seems some fans set themselves up to be disappointed. Basically all superhero movies have second shots; some of them are many; almost as a rule.

But after all that happened wit the dcu, that "automatically" means that it's due to the to a a cameo that has been discarded several times. Go figure.
