It’s well known in Hollywood circles that Abrams wants a valuable IP that his company can completely control. Superman is a perfect fit.

One good thing is that now we know that Kroll is also thinking the same thing as Superman fans, so if there's any movement on this, we will get some indication from his side.

Yup... now it's possible that Abrams could be interested, given it's history with the character. It could be tempting for him to do it and try and relaunch Superman

As long as they have someone else write it I am fine. If Flyby gets made I am out. I like the tone of the story but the weird random changes to the mythos werent needed.

It's been a long time since Flyby and I think he and the studio have learned not to mess with the mythos (I hope.) If Abrams does join I don't think he would ever try to make Flyby. But I think he would still have a hand in writing it and developing a story, but it would be a new take.

I've been reading the book "Superman vs. Hollywood" and it was quite a mess back then when Superman Flyby was being developed. It sounded like they went to Abrams in a rush after Tim Burton's version collapsed and asked him to come up with an epic trilogy for Superman, in the vein of the Matrix. Wolfgang Petersen's Batman vs Superman pic was being developed at the same time and there was indecision about which project to go with. They wouldn't even let Abrams direct his script because they considered him too green. They really didn't know what to do with Superman back then (what else is new) but they kept attempting different takes with Burton, then Abrams, McG, Ratner, Petersen etc. So Flyby was a product of those times.

There’s no way that Flyby script gets made. Abrams always writes his own movies though.

Yeah, I really like the last draft of Flyby and would be totally cool with seeing that movie (it would certainly better than the last 3 we got with the character), BUT there's no way that would ever happen. The cinema landscape has changed since then, especially the superhero cinema landscape, and Abrams himself has changed as a storyteller since then, too. Plus, a lot of the elements of Flyby that would have been selling points in terms of visuals have now since been used in a Superman film, so they wouldn't want to retread so soon. I strongly suspect if Abrams does end up on Supes that he'd want to write or co-write it himself, but I don't consider that a bad thing at all, and have ZERO doubt that whatever he writes now would be a totally different film from Flyby.

Tbh I think JJ directing the next Superman is a no brainer and I'm probably about 80% positive its gonna end up happening.

FYI for those worrying about Flyby, that was a script that had Jon Peters influence all over it. He told JJ to make it like Star Wars. He wanted Krypton to be at war and all that stuff, with Superman a prince etc. JJ still managed to get some very traditional Superman stuff in there. I have no doubt if he were making a Superman film without Jon Peters involved he would make something great.

Pre-Hollywood Clout JJ isn’t the same as Current-Hollywood Clout JJ. I believe if Jon Peters were still involved today and tried the same **** with JJ, he’d be told nicely to **** right off.

I'm so glad that Jon Peters is off Superman. It took so much time and drama just for him to realise not to mess with the core mythos. It took the insistence of Bryan Singer coming onboard saying he wanted to pay homage to Donner and be traditional for Peters to realise this. It was so painstakingly slow just to get to that point that it's no wonder they would have trouble getting other elements right.

Kroll has to be careful lol you know what fandom is like. Any little comment they (we) grab onto especially since he is at Variety and has often given little tidbits of inside info. that turn out to be right.

Before Kroll clarified his remarks, Thomas Polito of GWW responded on twitter by saying, "Not at all surprised, been hearing a for a little while now that WB really wants Abrams to do a huge property and Superman was one of the ones mentioned."

Putting aside the rumors, we don't need to be an insider to know WB has or will discuss all of their big franchises with Abrams, including all DC properties. Maybe after Star Wars is released we'll get a clearer picture of his plans. So I'm not expecting anything official till after next year.

I don't know how accurate he is but Thomas Polito of GWW said, "I can confirm that Warner Brothers is pushing JJ Abrams to direct a DC project with Superman, Green Lantern and Justice League at the top the list."

Again, it doesn't take much to put two and two together but I'm hoping if true that Abrams picks Superman. Nothing against the other heroes but Abrams and Superman has been my dream combination for the last few years.

The guy is like 50/50 and is terrible at getting the top top short list/front runners, he gets good casting calls and some scheduling, and shortlist of actors that will be eliminated early, lol. He's defending his Vanessa Kirby as Catwoman scoop right now lol.

But I hope what he heard is like an open secret in Burbank

I don't know if JJ wants to do another Star War like film ie GLC but if I were WB I'd use Hamada to give him a brief of the franchise history and future/vision, let him take the deal that McQ proposed before, kinda, so direct Sup and produce GLC, and oversee the whole DC universe as a consultant to make sure there are no crazy controversies like TLJ but not hands on (let Geoff Johns be the hands on guru like he did with WW and AM etc).

So naturally he only has to work hard on Sup, help GLC off the ground, work with his buddy Reeves to merge the worlds together in a few years, use the existing popular WW, AM, Shazam/Rock, HQ/SS and hopefully Flash under IT director, and a big JL event film/franchise is born, and he can direct 1 or 2 and trying to end it like Lost, as in a pop cultural icon series. The consultant role is just for his peripheral vision with Hamada still the one running the show.
