Her origin is addressed in WoT. It’s actually a pretty crucial flashback that addresses why she is the person that she is.Woman of Tomorrow (the book) doesn’t have much setup or character introduction for Kara. Rather, it unapologetically plunges into a Silver Age-y, outer space adventure; and assumes the reader is already well-versed on Supergirl’s basic backstory. But I’m not sure a movie version can count on such familiarity. For this reason, I’m speculating that Kara’s intro might be handled in one of two ways: she’ll appear in a cameo/epilogue in Superman; or (as you mentioned) Superman will appear with her in a brief, Earth-based prologue to WOT.
Man I loved that film! It made no sense and yet I probably saw it more than all the others combined thanks to TV. And I have said it before but...Jon Cryer was awesome in it! When he played Lex on Supergirl it made my life complete! At least Superman IV had Clark visiting an aerobics class, which was pure hilarity.

And the most on-the-nose headline in history.

I love The Batman to death, it’s my favorite Batman movie, but I feel like some of the emotional punches of it only work with a previous attachment to the characters.Yeah, as I recall, those flashbacks were interesting. But my concern is more prosaic. As an introduction to the character, plonking Kara down into an alien worlds/space opera — without a prior framework or context — might be a tad confusing for an uninitiated, general audience. Now if the rumors are true and Supergirl makes a cameo appearance in Superman — with a suggestion, perhaps, that she is about to embark on a cosmic “walkabout” for her 21st birthday — that would certainly help.
You might not but the audiences do. For the majority of characters you only need a very basic story. You can add to it as the story goes on. Even iconic ones get boring...I love The Batman to death, it’s my favorite Batman movie, but I feel like some of the emotional punches of it only work with a previous attachment to the characters.
I can’t say I agree with this “the audiences already know these characters, just cut to the chase” mentality.
I just assumed WoT will BE the intro, and that they'll twist the story a bit so that she hasn't actually made it to earth yet, and have all the stuff that happens with Krem & Ruthye be pre connecting with Kal on earth. Part of how she becomes a hero, how she processes her grief & anger etc.Woman of Tomorrow (the book) doesn’t have much setup or character introduction for Kara. I really loved the descriptions of her final days on Krypton. So heart wrenching. And the ending of that section with the imagery of her still looking for the tree outside her window. The writing style can be a bit waffle at times, but they really got the heart in that bit.Her origin is addressed in WoT. He’s Dr. Phosphorus though?
Could be, but with Sean Gunn also playing Maxwell Lord in addition to his Creature Commandos roles, it’s conceivable that Tudyk could be playing someone who wouldn’t likely be CG only. He’s Doctor Phosphorus though? Grillo’s in this as live-action Rick Flagg so I’d just assume that’s what Tudyk’s doing here.![]()
Not happening lol.Or…
I have never even considered this but honestly? Wouldn't hate it!I just assumed WoT will BE the intro, and that they'll twist the story a bit so that she hasn't actually made it to earth yet, and have all the stuff that happens with Krem & Ruthye be pre connecting with Kal on earth. Interesting you should say this. Before I read WOT, I was going by a general synopsis that folks here were kind enough to provide. And from this, I assumed it was a kind of origin story. I.e., in some fashion Kara went from Krypton/Argo to this adventure — then afterwards made her way to Earth, met her cousin and became “Supergirl.” But in the book, it becomes obvious (via the costume, Krypto and direct exposition) that Kara’s Earthly backstory has already taken place.I just assumed WoT will BE the intro, and that they'll twist the story a bit so that she hasn't actually made it to earth yet, and have all the stuff that happens with Krem & Ruthye be pre connecting with Kal on earth. Like maybe she crashed on another planet and she's been trying to find her way to Kal/earth when she runs into Ruthye.
And it could be that WOT is a prequel to Superman timeline wise, and so her cameo in that movie is her arrival after the events of WOT.
