The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Why worry? They didn't see the film, it isn't even a full trailer it is just a teaser. If it leaked it wouldn't really matter one iota and it would be easy to ignore.

edit: some of you guys need to be on social media less or just learn not to pay attention to the things you don't want to deal with. If you don't want to see negativity or certain segments of fans mute them or scroll past them. Or stick around here where most of the conversation should be civil :)

Because I want to see the trailer blind and half the time stuff like that will show up everywhere even if you're actively trying to avoid it due to algorithms. I want to go in 100% fresh and shouldn't have to worry about what I do and don't see online for 3 days because some idiot wants the clout of posting the details before it gets released.

In terms of negative "fans" that's easy to just ignore but seeing details you didn't want to see, that can be a lot harder even if you're actively trying.

WB and Snyder mistakenly thought that the seriousness, darkness, and attitude of Batman would translate over to a Superman film.
They thought wrong.

MoS COULD have been a good starting off point if Snyder had been replaced.
Agreed, instead they doubled down and added Batman because they thought the character alone (not accounting for what Nolan did for that franchise) would bring in more money.

Hollywood is ruthless and the reality is, Cavill had multiple chances and the general audience just didn't connect with his interpretation. Why keep going back to failure and trying to make it work.

The reboot, unfortunately, was a necessity and the fact that WB approached Gunn to basically do what they had done with the Batman already tells you that it was in motion.

I've been around for Superman Returns and Man of Steel. It's crazy that this is the third reboot but I think they may get a crowd pleaser this time around which is what they need. To me, it's all about the box office holds after the first weekend. If this thing has legs then you know it hit with the majority.

If this is true, I'm ready for the waterworks lol. If Gunn and Braham can capture this evocative imagery in a powerful way (and I fully trust their skills), it's going to be pretty moving.

Batman has also had three reboots by now: Batman Begins, Batman V Superman and The Batman.

I don't mind that there have been different interpretations of these characters.

I don't know their mind, but I have to think $600/$650 mill with positive critic and viewer scores SHOULD be considered a success.

In no way should they, or we, expect a $850 mill + film.

Yup.

Superman is generally less of a box office draw than, say Batman, also because the character's cinematic potential has never really been exploited in modern times. And The Batman was a big success at $770 million dollars worldwide.

What matters the most is a movie that can truly win over audiences and make them excited about the Man of Steel again.

Both Superman Returns and Man of Steel have their fans, but both of them were also met with a little bit of a shrug by global movie audiences.

Its really not. The only time I have ever been spoiled when I was trying not to be was when a troll came here in the BvS no spoilers thread and spoiled the ending. Avoiding spoilers is not hard it takes almost no effort especially for a teaser trailer almost no one has seen except embargoed media. The only leaks would be WB people or media cause they are the only ones who saw it which means there will be no legit leaks. No media person is getting banned from future events over a teaser trailer.

Yeah the film needs to get great word of mouth rather than a bajillion dollars, obviously that money would help but if Dune is still happening (is it?) and X-Men kept getting films (not a good example of being good) then I think this film just needs to do what Superman does best and inspire and make people excited.

I can't wait for Corenswet and Brosnahan to both be crying on couch during every interview like they accidentally cured *insert disease*

Thanks!

Hmmm, on one hand, MyTimetoShine is only really reliable with Marvel stuff. On the other hand, that sounds like a reasonable description of a proper teaser trailer. The part that makes me think its real is the mention of
an electric guitar rendition of John Williams theme.
People pointed out that they heard what sounded like an
electric guitar at the end of John Murphy's teaser track.

So for the people who read the description, without spoiling anything, would you say you think it will be received positive from the audience?

If real it's visual enough and should have a good feel to it that wouldn't feel like the more recent previous films. It's certainly a teaser (if real).

That reads as fake to me. It is pretty much all stuff we know about from filming and therefore comes off as something cobbled together from stuff we already know.
Wouldn't surprise me. That's usually the way it goes, I guess we can hope that it's not true and so we get something fresh!

Personally I liked my Krypto idea but James isn't answering my calls.

The word of mouth will be essential and the box office holds will tell you all you need to know.

I've always been if the opinion that a Superman movie can do well as the character is filled with a rich history that can be pulled from. He has a great supporting cast and the one advantage over batman, is that the Lois and Clark dynamic could be a way to pull in a lot of people. The tv show from the 90s was huge based on that and I don't think the movies have done a good job of bringing that aspect to the screen.

Just to be safe, I'm avoiding all spoilers/leaks until Thursday.
Although the Ai 'trailer leak' on Twitter was quite funny. Literally had Superman Returns footage & music playing over it.

Any time stamps where there is interesting info?
Yea no problem. I just grabbed the time stamps for his quotes. I'll edit my original post to include these as well.
