Question for the folks who understand the test screening game. How many different cuts of a movie can actually be shown at these test screenings?

Each screening could be a different cut.
So I think it’s safe to say that all the scoopers information could be true just based on what cut they have seen. So some saw the “terrible “ cut while others saw the “great “ cut.

I imagine there are several different cuts. Gunns trying to figure out which one is the best.

Superman has had about 5+ test screenings so far. That's considered the high end level of screenings. Each cut isn't a complete cut of the film. Some audiences may get different versions of the film and the studios examine the feedback left by the audiences then splice together alternate cuts of takes, inserts, and complete re-edits of the different versions. The locked version of the film will be the final cut released to theaters. Superman will probably have a few more test screenings from now until July.

Would he combine the cuts?

It depends on run time, story, and highlighting certain aspects of the test screenings that the test audience gives their criticisms on. I've heard the earlier test screenings weren't good at all and that David's Superman was getting lost in the cut. Fast forward to what I recently heard, the third act is David centric and he nails the role (Gunn's pickup shots were designed to have more of the films transition of the third act to highlight Superman). From the murmurs now, WB feels like they nailed Superman in the third act, but they are having major tonal issues. They still have 3 full months to fix everything to the films overall vision. They are just trying to get the final film as perfect as they see fit.

Thanks Tra-El you always have good information. When should I go silent on social media? Mid June or early July so I can go see the film with fresh eyes?

More likely just different opinions. All scoopers are just relaying what they’ve heard from various people. Various people have different tastes. And none of the cuts are reportedly “terrible.”

Only thing I’m not crazy about is the overdesigned lines (which all these suits seem to have nowadays) and the collar, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

These are also just promotional materials, after all. As long as it looks good in action, that’s all that really matters.

Has Gunn confirmed the trailer release date for the public or are scoopers just guessing April 1?

I fail miserably at going dark lol but I always tried to go dark after the official trailer #2 hits, which will probably be in June or late May at its earliest. There's already plot leaks and spoilers out there from the screenings, and those will only become more concrete, so be careful. Forums and social media places are taking a walk on the wild side nowadays.

Test screenings this far out can't be really taken as an absolute. Casual movie-goers just get pulled in randomly, sign NDA's, and off they go. The majority of them may say they suck because they aren't use to unfinished CGI or flat out plot holes and what not. Screenings are chopped up depending on what the studio sends chains. It's always often not what we will get as the final product and most of the feedback received isn't really Earth shattering for studios givin' they are questioners.

Gunn has been silent lately, but I remember him confirming a Cinamacon presence. I don't think he flat out confirmed a trailer, but the marketing and new images from Cinemacon already likely means trailer incoming. Either the 1st or 18th (Superman Day) of April seem like the two dates the trailer can hit.

In general, I don't really like the vast majority of the suit as far as design choices go, however I think it has looked really poor in almost all of the official promotional material we've seen thus far, however ironically in the trailer & the candid set photos it has looked significantly better.

It's not typically like this, usually it's the other way around, at least for me anyway. The set pictures usually make things look worse. Hopefully that trend continues with the next trailer & the actual film, as that's all that really matters, but the official pictures they've released don't flatter the suit IMO.

It's kind of a push for me. On one hand, I think the trunks look too much like a geezer pulled too high but on the other hand, I like the different materials that visibly make it different than what has come before, which is always welcomed. If sequels are on their way, the suit is bound to change over time, so hopefully Gunn and his team will continue to work on David's look.

I'm in agreement here. I've grown to really like the suit, even with the design disagreements, but I'm shocked that the recent promotional images haven't been all that flattering of the suit. They do not look bad, but I expected them to enhance the aesthetics of the suit.

David still looks great, which is a testament to him, but the suit certainly looks better in action than in the few images released.

This kind of reminds me of Superman Returns. The suit looked much better in live action, had some great drawn artwork of Superman on the merchandise (similar to this film's Toothbrush art), but the promotional stills of Routh were not always the greatest.

David, overall, still looks great as Superman (testament to him indeed) and 100 times out of 100 I will take the suit looking great in motion than in marketing stills (these stills still aren't official pics of David, more-so merchandising).

As far as Returns goes, Routh had nice size to him and he had a great physique. The materials of Returns were awful and the swimmers-type material took all definition away from his overall build. Plus, he wore a speedo. I hated everything about the Returns suit. With Gunn's version, though it has its shortcomings, David still looks massive in it and it still shows off his overall sizing and physique.

My least favorite part is how the cape is attached.
