What does reed being white actually bring to the character?
Nothing, you're absolutely right. But I just prefer Reed to be caucasion like the comics. But if they casted Issac, you'd hear no complaints from me. His Reed could easily be a mix of the highly intelligent genius: Nathan (Ex Machina) with the charisma and gravitas of Poe.

Issac is a good actor but I don't think Reed needs to be race-changed

 Isaac has dark hair (like Reed Richards) and, based on his physical appearance, his ancestors could be from just about anywhere. If somebody told me he had German or British in his background, I couldn't argue.

Nothing wrong with that. But yeah he would make Reed Richards a great on screen character which we haven't had yet.

Isaac was very charismatic in TFA, so if he’s like that and not Apocalypse, then I think he’ll be fine. He’s better than Miles Teller anyways.

A white actor portraying a white comicbook character isnt a race change.

This. Stick to the source material. None of this F4NTASTIC PC SJW pandering.

Oscar Isaac as Reed would be a great casting choice because you want someone for MCU Reed that could hang with Downey and Ruffalo in the charisma department while also being credible as the smartest man in the Marvel Universe. You don't want Reed Richards to be the milk toast he was in the prior FOX movies. When the Fantastic Four were created Reed Richards was a WWII veteran and had a strong father figure like presence. The actor who plays Reed needs to have screen presence.

Doesn't bring anything. Saying that comics were a visual medium. People getting to know and love the characters was largely down to how they looked as well as their character. Changing that is a big deal.

Why do it?

Try to be as close to the source material as you can.

Saying that if there is a good reason to change do it. Sam as nick was great. But we kept the patch and sam is one of the coolest people on the planet.

Dunno.

The point I was making is that Oscar Issac is a hispanic white guy. Casting Mr. Issac as Reed - which would be terrific - is not a race change from comic book Reed. Those mean old social justice warriors - like that guy whose life we are celebrating tomorrow - are not being pandered to here.

Oscar Isaac is "white enough" for me to play Reed. I don't need him to be super Caucasian. I don't think he would look radically different from comic book Reed the way MBJ looked radically different from comic book Human Torch in the Trank FF movie.

This is true. He does look like some artist interpretations of Reed

Off topic (sorry) my ignorance but why are latino's considered not white. When european italians, potugese, spanish etc... are? Or are they?

Obviously you have a mix of the native south smericans with european colonials and africans that came over, but europeans are mixes of many races and cultures too.

Sorry if not on topic and ignore if need be. Just curious.

Like for real, I have latinx friends that are whiter than I am.

It is mainly a media creation. For instance in the 1960s Ricardo Montalban played a Confederate Army officer in an episode of Wild Wild West and fit right in. Then he looked like a Southerner with a summer tan. Today he would be declared brown.

Cheers.

Reed has to look reasonably mature and intelligent for me. Late 30's. Think the white streaks in his hair can wait till future films.
Think he has to resemble his comic book self. Although will bend on that if it was exceptional casting that fit. Not "just for the sake of it lets make him .......

Probably a few years to go though.

I can so imagine Issac-Reed stepping into a conversation with RDJ & Ruffalo telling them that their theory is wrong. He's the perfect age too

The Fox films made the mistake of portraying Reed as too much a stereotypical demure nerd instead of the innately curious, confident man of science that we all know and love from the comics.

Now that I think about it Benedict Cumberbatch could've been a good Reed had he not already been cast as Strange. He's an actor that could easily nail that intelligent, fatherly inquisitive qualities you'd want for Reed.

Ioan Gruffudd would've been a much better Reed today than he would in 2005. He is more mature now and in fact has played characters who are more Reed-like than in the FF movie. It's a shame that he was wasted on the Fox movies which rules him out now.

Cheers.

Oscar Isaac has the graying hair thing going on. The only problem may be the height, but that's an easy fix with camera angles and other tricks. If they make Tom Cruise look 6 feet tall then Hollywood can get away with almost anything.

What is also vital is getting the right chemistry between the actors that they'd choose. In the 2005/07 movies only Ben and Johnny had good chemistry with each other, while Fant4stic was devoid of anything resembling human emotions. They need to feel like a real family.

When has Tom Cruise ever looked 6 feet tall on camera? All he might look is taller than his female co-star, but not 6 ft tall.

Agreed. The science bro conversation would be overflowing with charisma if Oscar got into the mix.

Minor exaggeration on my part. He may not look 6ft, but he doesn't look his actual height of 5ft 5. As long as the actor who plays Reed looks taller than Sue then I'm fine.
