But as I said, they all had to be prepubescent kids whose powers hadn't manifested yet during Civil War. Otherwise Xavier is a complete monster for using global mind-wipes to make authorities forget mutants exist while not using the same power to help Captain America's little group of six.

I dont care. Xavier did worse things in the comics anyways. I would accept any stupid explanation. Just dont make them high school kids.

I think it's just best to have the X-Men be teenagers and new come their film. Mutants can have been around in small numbers, but just make Xavier's school fairly new. I'd also consider making the students be the ones to decide to form a team, as to not make Xavier look irresponsible for recruiting kids, LOL!

Exactly. Xavier recruited high school kids to a prep school he founded for their own safety, so they wouldn't use their powers destructively in high school or college.

From there they can be the ones who decide to throw themselves into danger.

Wait, what did I missed? They got approved from DOJ?
What does that mean? I mean, let's assume Comcast doesn't do anything and so on, how much time until the official and everything else is set and done and Disney can be called owners of Fox?
Yes, the deal was approved but Disney has to sell off Fox's Regional Sports Networks. A judge just has to approve that settlement. Expect it to be rubber stamped.

Once shareholders approve it and other regulatory bodies in other countries have signed off, then Disney is free to close the deal at its leisure.

Comcast can come back with an offer, but right now it looks like Fox's board would consider it, but would ultimately determine that there is too much regulatory risk and decline it. If Comcast makes another move, expect them to take it directly to shareholders. In that scenario, enough shareholders would have to reject the Disney offer (with DOJ blessing) and force a review of Comcast's offer. Unlikely to happen though, at present.

I'm voting for the sure thing.

Maybe adult versions of the X-Men did try to help out the Avengers and the public during Infinity War, and they all instantly reacted: "Get away from me you mutants! We can't accept help from the likes of you even though we don't know how you got your powers and we're in an absolutely dire situation!!" :o

This maybe a dumb question...if Disney bought Fox with the intention of buying RSN with it for 71 billion...now that DOJ have rejected the RSN channels coming with the package does that mean Disney are overpaying? Should the price not be negotiated again? Or is it that Disney will get the RSN channels but they need sell it once the sale goes through?

The RSN are still coming as part of the package, but Disney has a 90 day window (which can be extended in 90 day increments) in which to sell of the 22 RSNs after the deal officially closes. So if you ever wanted to get into the regional sports broadcasting game, opportunity has come a knockin'!

How long does it take to schedule a shareholders' meeting?

Can't the one that was postponed from July 10 be reconvened now and even assembled ahead of July 10? Why do they need to wait indefinitely now?

Why does Ice Man look just like an icy version of Professor X?

Assuming no other bids, this board gets a Xmas present IMO.

They are probably contacting interested parties right now. The FAANGs may be interested. Al Jazeera probably is too.

Not yet. The deal has to go through regulatory review in other countries, not to mention the Fox shareholders still have to vote on the deal, and Comcast can still counter-bid. The deal(if all goes well) could close as early as this December which would mean the characters would finally be home at last. But it’s not over yet. The deal is still pending.

As I understand it Disney will buy the RSN channels too, but basically have to sell them off immediately.

Edit: Zarex covered it far better.

You know, throughout this whole process, I've been pretty cavalier. After 50 years of waiting, I figured I could do a little more easily enough, and I've stayed fairly calm through the Comcast bidding thinking that it was still far more likely Disney would get the rights one way or another over Comcast.

... but now that we can see the finish line after a roller-coaster month, I'm suddenly finding myself becoming impatient.

I feel like: "C'mon, let's get this thing closed, let's get some films announced and let's get those films made!"

I can see the finish-line now and 4 or more years we still have to wait are starting to seem longer than they did back when I thought the rights would just be reverting around 2022.

That's one thing I was so disappointed about when I finally read the original series, that the school was just a front. Sure, Xavier taught them and stuff, but it was just them. I hope that Feige keeps it as a school like it became in the 2000s and in the movies so far.

I swear if this deal is finalized by Christmas, and they do a secret post credit shoot for Infinity War 2....

Imagine the goosebumps we'd all get if at the end we see Galactus just standing there like "I'm hungry!" and just looks at Earth.

At this point I’m eager to see what Kabletown does next. If Comcast does offer a substantially bigger bid of 90+ bilion dollars(along with some stock) will the Mouse be able to match it or given the news today would they even need to match it?

It wasn't a front; it was a prep school with an unusually small student body and a Danger Room for PE.
The problem with the school in the movies is that it wasn't clear how many of the adults who lived there were actually teachers and how many were... full-time superheroes? Homicidal couch surfers? They even made fun of how the faculty makes no bloody sense in X2 when Logan meets the Drake family.
I've suggested here establishing the school in the first film with a body of teenagers, Professor X, Erik Lehnsherr as history teacher, Mystique teaching biology, and... Wolverine? Fred Duncan? as the coach. Then Erik and Mystique take off at the beginning of the third act over a disagreement with Xavier that leads to the big set-piece battle and Xavier and the kids are left to pick up the pieces of their new life, with replacement teachers having been hired off-screen in the sequel.

I'm still a little nervous, but my gut is telling me the Comcast board was split on even going as high as $80 billion. Now that they'll have to make an even higher bid, I think it's going to tip things to the 'we're done' side.

IF Comcast is seriously considering another bid they need to speak up clearly and loudly and soon. Fox shareholders are reading that it's a done-deal, and they're moving on. New ballots will be printed soon and a new meeting will be scheduled soon and as Fox shareholders start spending their profits in their mind, they're just going to be annoyed at Comcast if they get in the way of them finishing this up with some large but risky bid.

And Comcast is now stuck because the $95ish billion bid they'd have to make to derail the process is likely to piss off their own shareholders and might never pass that vote. It's something of a Catch 22 for them. A low bid will go nowhere with Fox shareholders and a high bid might go nowhere with Comcast shareholders.

How soon will they be able to schedule the meeting? Does it need a certain amount of time before deciding on one and actually holding one? If they wanted to schedule it for tomorrow, say, can they do that? Or even July 11 (instead of the July 10 date)? Why should they delay any longer?

I don't know if there are any regulatory restrictions, but there are practical restrictions. They still need to print new ballots with details of the new offer (they were probably holding off on this a bit waiting for a potential new Comcast bid).

Those ballots can't be produced, mailed and returned before July 10 (and that may be where there is a regulatory limit to ensure shareholders have time to read and consider and vote).

Realistically, I don't think a new meeting could happen before early August at the earliest.

I hope Wed. August 1 is practical. The less time for Comcast to pull another trick the better.

Is it too early for a toast by Professor X?

... dammit Chuck, you had one job.

It’s never too early

Because it’s going to happen! Yay, friends! Yay, indeed!
