Ioan Gruffudd would've been a good pick for Reed now if he hadn't played him already in the Fox films. He's much better suited to Reed now than he was in 2005. And most of his other roles have been more like Reed than in that film.

But I think he could make a pretty good Professor X. If he's prepared to shave his head, that is.

Guys, it's called deadpan humor. I found it humorous that Dark Raven is fancasting a third Briton to play an American.

I could see him as Norman Osborne.

Yup, Charles is American. I guess some people think he must be British from the movies having Stewart & McAvoy play the part.

Can you name a few roles be it movie/television where he’s been better than we’ve seen him be in the FF movies?

And I think even then he could have been much better with a better script and better director.

He played an Immortal Doctor in the ironically short lived 'Forever' series.

Was more like Reed in that role than he was in the FF movies.

I was stunned when I first learned the character was American. I always thought of him as English. I hope they keep him British in the MCU since I think that sort of fits the character better. I always thought Doctor Strange should’ve had a british accent in the MCU

I think Cumberbatch’s American accent is very forced in Doctor Strange and they should’ve let him do his natural accent.

Was just about to mention that. He was very intelligent and perceptive in there, and not as much of a wuss as Reed in the FF. Very much like Reed in Forever.

And he had that Hornblower series as Captain Horatio Hornblower.

And recently he's been playing a much darker character in the series "Liar".

And he was also in Ringer where he was also darker.

Every role he's played has been more like Reed except for in the film itself.

He could work as Norman Osborne too.

Whoever they get to play Reed in the MCU they need an actor who can believably portray both a genius and leader. He has to nail the confident qualities all while being able to portray the darker more obsessive/loner qualities of the character. Reed in the comics can really become too engrained in his research/inventions enough that he becomes less communicative, which can draw the ire of Sue who wishes he was more open with her.

There’s also an innate inquisitiveness to the character that always has to be conveyed well.

You're describing Gruffudd's character in Forever perfectly there. That's what really made me think that they didn't use him to his full potential back in 2005 or 2007.

616 Charles Francis Xavier was born into a very privileged Catholic American family. He lived such a charmed life that he even had a stepfather who treated him as well or better than his biological son Cain Marko.
I mean it's not a big change to make him a posh Brit, but that's how it is.

John Krasinski

If Emily Blunt is Sue Storm in a film released in 2022 or 2023 Anno Domini, I'm skipping it unless a faithful Doctor Doom has lots of screen time.
No thanks to Emily Blunt. But I want Krasinski

Years ago, Tom Hanks would’ve been the ideal Reed but that ship has obviously sailed(he’s too old).

In the early 2000’s, George Clooney would’ve also been a good pick: He’s shown he can easily nail the confident leader qualities(Ocean 11) and he’s played more darker, obsessive characters before. Also folks see the Descendants — he can also portray the patriarch quite well.

Oddly, I've liked Gruffudd in literally every other role I've seen him in except his performance in FF. Ironic considering how much he LOOKS like Reed Richards.

Carrie Mulligan for Sue.

She's likely to be 38 by the time a film is released, the same age as Evangeline Lilly while filming Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Pepper Potts is getting pregnant when her actress is 45. If an Ant-Man threequel gets made, there'll be romance with a 41/42-year-old actress (I'm hoping they wrap the trilogy up married).
They should do something fresh, not a third franchise in the same universe to set up the wedding of a science hero to a menopausal woman who also gets superpowers.

Yeah, I think the problem is, Tim Story wanted Reed to be a smart, indecisive, socially awkward geek. And Ioan played that character well. If Story had a better version of Reed in mind, I think he could have played it.

The 2005 film was a perfectly decent superhero film kept from being better by a cliched script.
"It's better writing if the villain's origin is tied to the hero's, as we learned from Batman in 1989."
"This character is a genius inventor, so he's a socially awkward geek."

I even liked how modest Reed's inventions were, because it avoids the comics problem where he comes across as a supervillain for letting Americans die of cancer while Latveria and Wakanda's science heroes improve their people's quality of life with sci-fi tech.

Story wanted everyone to act in a certain way. Even Jessica Alba was told not to be too human. Even she could've done better than how she played it if directed by someone else.

It's weird, even though he screwed up two FF films, I've always had a soft-spot in my heart for Tim Story. I feel like he meant well, and would have made better films if he could, but he just didn't know how to make them work.

Simon Kinberg, on the other hand, annoys me no end. He had an arrogant attitude and apparent contempt for the FF. He seemed to think he was smarter than the comic-book writers and fans and there was something wrong with us for not recognizing his brilliance.
