The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 22

Why? Gunn isn’t Feige. Not to derail the thread since there’s other threads to discuss that fiasco but I still think there’s exciting things abound for the Marvel Universe with this merger even without Gunn. While I’m much less excited about Guardians Vol. 3 I still think Marvel is in good hands enough with Feige and I can’t wait to see Feige’s take on the Fantastic Four(if he doesn’t leave over this, I hope).

The fact that Horn, who has never made a Marvel Studios personnel announcement, made this one suggests that Feige may not have been in agreement with Gunn's dismissal. And his contract is up next year. I'm not saying that Kevin's a definite goner if it turns out he was overruled by his boss, but it's a bad time for this mess. And I have much more confidence in an expanded MCU with Feige at the helm than I would with his replacement.

There's no way Feige will leave over Gunn getting fired. Especially not now, when he's about to get the keys to the full Marvel toybox

Exactly. Feige would just bite his tongue and remain silent rather than throwing any toys on the floor in protest.

He's been waiting all these years for these. He's not going to abandon it all for someone else. It would be like "Keep Hope Alive, but then toss it all away at the last minute."

And can we not go back to talking about that in this thread? There are plenty of other threads for that. This should be about the excitement of what's about to happen in 2 days.

If y'all think Feige is going to mess up his coins on the strength of James Gunn you're in for a rude awakening.

Very soon that man will have creative control over his beloved X-Men, he'll be alright.

I'm sure someone has thought of this already, but I think it would cool to see the 2OCF logo turning to dust in a meme. Make it happen science!

It would be beyond dumb. And like you said, Feige has dreamed for years about getting the X-Men back. Gunn is jusr one piece of the huge puzzle that makes up the MCU. He's gone, okay. The MCU will prosper without him

I'm hoping that Disney aren't waiting until after the shareholders' votes to start looking for buyers. They should've been doing that already.

Who are potential buyers? How easy will it be to sell off?

And if they can't sell these assets within 90 days, what does that mean for the rest of the assets they bought which they do want to keep (eg Fox Marvel)? Does it have any effect on them at all? Can they still proceed with them as if they're fully owned by Disney/Marvel now?

At this point, they really have nothing to do with the rest of the deal. If Disney can't sell them, they'll have to ask for an extension. Beyond that, there would probably be a fine for every day they go unsold. The worst-case would be Disney would have to sell them for less than they hoped.

But after the closing, they'll own all the agreed-upon Fox assets and they will begin working on integrating them. Difficulty in selling the sports networks should have zero impact on everything else.

I think the incentive of working with X-Men and FF characters is bigger than the disincentive of working with bosses with which he disagreed with something.

Feige has probably disagreed with his bosses on bigger and more important things than this. This just happens to be getting more publicity.

It's going to be a straightforward vote by the looks of it.

Apart from DigificWriter, Ant-Maniac and all the other FFINO defenders who are also Fox shareholders. :o

Hopefully they don’t have over 50% or Fox shares between them lol.

Murdoch and Iger to Skip Fox and Disney Shareholder Votes

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/25/business/media/murdoch-iger-fox-disney-shareholders.html

The shareholder meetings, which are scheduled to take place simultaneously at the New York Hilton, are required under securities law, but the business conducted will be rather perfunctory. Most of the voting is expected to be completed by proxy by the time the sessions start, and the merger is likely to be approved by a wide margin.

The new date conflicted with an overseas trip that Mr. Iger had scheduled. He ultimately opted not to change his plans, according to the people briefed on the matter. Mr. Murdoch similarly decided to keep a commitment in California.

I don't think its unbelievable to see how the news of James Gunn has dampened the excitement level of the merger for some of us. The firing doesn't just affect GotG Vol. 3, this could have significant, long term effects for Marvel/Disney and Hollowood in general.

On the Marvel front, James Gunn was supposed to oversee the MCU's cosmic stories going forward. He could have had a hand in the Eternals and whatever other projects they had planned. Maybe even be an executive producer on a Fantastic Four reboot, or work on a Silver Surfer project - a character he has enthusiastically talked about on twitter.

I don't see Feige outright quitting because over this, but with his contract coming up sometime next year and the MCU concluding its Phase 3, I'm personally going to be paying more attention to what he decides to do next. I think many of you are putting way too much stock in the X-Men and FF rights being enough to change his mind - IF he wanted to quit - and just forget about what happened with Gunn. This is a bigger deal than getting some characters back.

Finally, for Disney I think they made the wrong call. I don't see them as the bad guys in this - Gunn still said all those things and they want to protect their family friendly brand. But by firing Gunn, they have made it hunting season for these news outlets and political figures to target people in the entertainment industry who are openly against them.

Sorry, I'll go back to burying my head in the sand as is the norm here. Can't wait for the 27th!

If most of the voting has already taken place by proxy, it could be a very short meeting. Just a formality. Hardly even worth attending (which some aren't even going to bother).

Someone might read out the tally of votes and that could be it. How many are still undecided and are actually going to leave it up to the last minute to vote on the very day?

It doesn't take long to add up a tally and read out the number of votes. It could all be over in minutes.

I don't think there would be any questions and answers then, would there? That should've already happened.

It's not like the first time someone's been fired for offensive social media posts. The exact same company just fired Roseanne for what she said on the exact same platform.

This is just going round and round in circles.

It's already doing that in the other threads with no-one coming to any agreement. Can't we stop talking about Gunn in here?

Just drop it. It's the 5th time you are repeating the same thing. It's almost like you relish spreading negativity and Doomsday scenarios.

Iger and Horn had Feige's back against a billionaire mongul CEO of Marvel Etnertainemtn. For all intents and purposes Feige was small fish compared to Ike yet both Horn and Iger supported him. Id don't think Kevin is forgetting this anytime soon. He has put up with much worse and the MCU is his child. There is no rift.

When the DOJ announced that Disney-Fox merger would be a victory for the American consumer I pretty much stopped worrying.

He is not quiting and i can bet my house on that. It seems both you and Zarex really like shouting to the clouds about Second Coming. It's getting boring.

Feige understands why Gunn was fired. He might not agree but he understand why Disney did it. He is smart and mature enough to continue like business. Disney didn't make a dirty or unethical decision. They were justified.

Just don't entertain the Gunn talk in here. There are threads for that if they want to go and drown their sorrows there.

We have plenty of other things to rejoice or talk about.
