... what? They have a contract to produce one more Sony film after Far From Home, with a Marvel guest star (1 = Iron Man, 2 = Nick Fury, 3 = ???). They could always just re-hire the actors and shoot Spidey in college films at their own studio if they don't like the Marvel contract when it expires.

As far as I am aware, this particular deal with Sony ends after Far From Home and it was a 5 picture deal (Civil War, Homecoming, Infinity War, Avengers 4, and Far From Home). Holland has a 6 film contract, though.

Why will Venom do better than Wonder Woman? Her movie was huge last time.

Did you misread Antman as Wonder Woman? lol

As far as I am aware, this particular deal with Sony ends after Far From Home and it was a 5 picture deal (Civil War, Homecoming, Infinity War, Avengers 4, Far From Home).

Correct. AFAIK and the publicly available info, the deal is done after FFH.

I don't see why not. We have had Spider-Man less Venom comics in the past.

Yeah because we had a complete story with Parker/Brock/Symbiote and that whole saga before they did the Venom spinoff comics.

This whole Sony-Spideyverse is just doing it wrong. Amy Pascal is worse than Kinberg.

I know it's not healthy, but I would be happy if Venom failed. Too much is at stake

I thought I was correct, LOL

I won't argue Pascal's a great producer, LOL. But in regards to Venom, the fact he has so many solo comics shows a movie is there without Spider-Man. You just have to skip the details that involve him to craft that origin. I am not writing Venom off at this point because of the solos they want to do, I think Venom and Morbius can work as solos. The others I am less sure.

No with Spidey completely out of the equation.
He was part of Venom's history, even if he didn't show up in the ongoing stories.

That's not the case with this movie.

Disney, Fox file for deal approval in Brazil

A day ahead of their key shareholder vote on a $71B asset deal, Walt Disney and Twenty-First Century Fox have filed for approval from Brazilian regulators. The companies filed a control acquisition deal with antitrust regulator Cade, Bloomberg notes.

Brazil approval should be a breeze, I think.
I think so too. It is mostly for ownership on the cable networks, IIRC.

Hummm maybe not a breeze? Any native portuguese speakers here?

No Cade, a Twenty-Fist Century foi representada pelo Grinberg Cordovil Advogados e a The Disney Company (Brasil) Ltda. pelo Levy & Salomão. O órgão tem 240 dias, prorrogáveis por 90, para julgar o caso.

Watch Brazil hold this damn thing back another 8 months.

As noted above, it can still work even omitting Spider-Man. You just have to modify his origin. It's not like the MCU hasn't done similar things. Remember the time Hank Pym didn't build Ultron? I would argue Pym was as important to Ultron as Spidey is to Venom, but they still removed him and altered his origin to fit the movie. It can be done here also.

I do know for sure people won't tolerate Spider-man outside the MCU. That era has passed. The era of standalone universes has passed. The backlash will be so huge, Fan4stic level huge. You don't send someone to Disneyland after 20 years and the last minute you revoke his ticket.
Sony would agree with you...on your second point. Hence why they're doing these spin-off movies to build their own cinematic Universe to which(if they do well) then they won't need the MCU to have Spider-Man in a successful cinematic universe since they would have their own.

I guarantee you that if Venom successful(very unlikely it will be imo) then there wouldn't even be a need to work with another studio to have successful Spidey films anymore(unless the second MCU Spidey film does significantly more than the first one). Have a second Spider-Man versus Venom and that will be a huge draw.

I'm still gonna go support it when it releases, I guess I'll just keep an open mind. I love that they finally got his look right for this go round and that Hardy actually gets the character he's playing.

Still just a little annoyed with that pronounciation of 'sim-BYE-ote' lol.

Do you think they might get Blue Sky studio to make animated marvel movies? They don't seem to produce new stuff much...they seem to rely on previous hits to make money...it might give them something to do as Pixar and Disney animation produce much better original content than Blue Sky...or do you think they will disband the BS studio and transfer the animators to Pixar and Disney?

And Ultron ended up being the weakest of the 3 Avengers films, so far.

It was a mistake then and it's still a mistake IMHO.

If the Venom flick is successful there's a reasonable chance Sony will threaten to pull Spidey to appear in that universe. Feige may look at all the new characters he has available and wish them good luck.

I actually think the opposite would be true. If Venom is successful than there's no need to bring Spider-man in, Venom could be their new hit franchise. One of the reasons I suspect that we're now getting a Venom movie despite years of rumors is that they always had to priorities Spider-man in order to retain the license. Now that it's on Marvel to make Spider-man films Sony can focus their resources to expanding the license, instead of one spider-man film every few years it's 3 potential new franchise plus and animated film. As long as the Marvel Spider-man films are successful and Venom/Black and Silver/Morbius/Spider-verse are profitable there's no reason to not renew their contract with Marvel because it's a win-win.

They were already trying to build their own cinematic universe with TASM series and it failed.

People will want to see Spidey hanging out with all the other heroes, like in Infinity War, rather than being in Sony's own little cinematic universe away from everyone else.

I loved AoU myself, but even so, the movie's issues don't stem from Hank Pym not being his builder.

That would be smart. Create original, Marvel, Lucas, Avatar? movies for the streaming service with the occasional theatrical release. Blue Sky can do what Disney Toon was supposed to do but failed miserably at it. Blue Sky is a talented bunch.

Venom is a bigger deal than Ultron, he's an A-list Marvel character. Sony robbing the MCU of the potential to use the Symbiote and with the huge cosmic universe, Marvel could REALLY delve into the backstory of the Symbiotes. What we're getting instead is a Venom that nobody wanted and the fans are against. Why couldn't Sony make more animated Spidey films like Spiderverse? Make a cinematic universe centered around that! Nobody would have complained - the movie looks amazing. I could easily imagine a Spider-Gwen spin-off and Spider-Man 2099 in that universe. It's a goldmine. Instead, Sony is stealing villains from the MCU

I hope Marvel announce a full FF and X-Men cast tomorrow along with directors, film titles, trailers and marketing material. :D
