I don't even think most comic fans know who the Eternals are. I'm a diehard comic fan and don't think I own any Eternal comics. It would make sense for a X-men, Galactus or F4 teaser at the end to give the fans something to look forward to.

But I would argue FF/X-Men are safer movies than Eternals to succeed. So putting in something for Eternals in a more popular property may elevate its chances to succeed. I too would prefer something FF related, but it would make business sense to put in something for Eternals. Especially if Eternals will be the lynch pin of phase 4 like Guardians 3 was going to be.

An Eternals post credit scene is more realistic than X-Men/F4. I know we all want it to happen but I wouldn't get too hyped about it because I doubt it will happen. End Game was in development long before the Fox deal came to fruition. The post credit scenes would have been decided a long time ago.

There is also a direct link to the Eternals in Endgame anyway since Thanos is connected to them.

This is from an old contract though so maybe it's not the case anymore with the new contract.

Interesting. Afaik the Sony contract wasn't renegotiated until after Disney took over. Would stand to reason the Mouse would have kept that clause as a precaution when they took over handling the deals.

And I doubt Eternals will be used to setup Mutants ether as Eternals has likely been in development for a long time unless they fast tracked it once the deal was announced last December and reworked it a bit then maybe but If they use it to introduce Mutants idk it may end up feeling rushed.

You've just described the majority of the characters featured in the MCU. Part of the point of including a post-credit teaser is to jog interest about what movie is coming next.

Does everybody realize that we're ahead of schedule, not behind? This will almost certainly be wrapped up sooner, not later than they had originally planned.

And I'm sure Feige already has a detailed, long-range plan that isn't highly dependent on whether this closes in February or March.

It will be closed soon enough. After all the waiting I've done, I feel like a convict in the last few months of my sentence. I'm looking forward to being out in a few months, not thinking "damn it, I've still got a few more months to go".

And speaking of the closing... aren't we running out of opportunities for a date announcement? The only one I can think of is the Q1 earnings call. And that's if it isn't already closed by then. The San Diego and New York Comic Cons will be long after the window (I think). Unless they do something we're not aware of solely dedicated to the announcement, like they did for phase 3. Whatever the plan, if I know Marvel, they want to make this an event; they want fanfare. Or maybe they could surprise us and announce it on a boring, random Thursday, but I doubt it. Surely they have to realize announcing a closing date is only going to build excitement, so... when exactly are we supposed to get word of this closing date?

Doesn't that also involve Thor's uncle, Set, and his son, Sliggurth, and the Serpent Men. The Deviants (such as Thanos) worship the Celestial's greatest enemy, Set.

Not sure how much you knew before hand but if you were following the wikileaks saga at the time you knew Sony and Marvel had been talking.

what made this so surprising is that at the time the last thing we all heard is that discussions between Sony and Marvel had ended for the time being. then we got wind of a spidey summit in January 2015 where Sony would decide rhe fate of the IP and it turns out they invited Feige to the summit.

The following month this deal was announced. was quite the saga of drama leading up to it. all these details were leaking about what sony was demanding for Spidey to appear in Civil War and how they wanted a movie every 2 years, How marvel had two scripts etc

That feels odd to me. A4 post-credit scene being about teasing The Eternals movie sounds a bit... disappointing? I feel like Marvel would do something a bit bigger than that. They know there will be hype for the post credit scene of A4. And even if they're preparing cameos during the movie to tease The Eternals, it still sounds off. Captain Marvel didn't cameo in IW. There were talks about having Beta Ray Bill there too, but they decided not to go through with it because there wasn't enough time to introduce him properly. So I don't see them introducing the Eternals there. And also, they didn't have to do that for Guardians.

Regarding the FOX deal, I think there could be enough time for some easter eggs, like showing the Baxter building or throwing some names. Or even a Silver Surfer post-credit scene. Regarding the X-Men, the only thing I can see them doing, and that depending on what they have in mind, is throwing the word mutants.

I don't see how it's odd, Eternals would need it since most don't know anything about them, me included.

Uh, yeah. I second that. Nobody cares about Eternals, Marvel getting two of their biggest franchises back Is a far bigger deal than Eternals. What they add to Endgame doesn't have to be something big, it could simply -- as Willie said, be small Easter eggs they add for fans. They can easily add dialogue to the movie in post that references the world of F4/XM

Anything could happen. Eternals could be as huge as gotg. I hope they go for it. And they are not even ready for xmen and f4, why not tease the movie that already has a script.

According to a rumor, casting for the role of the Eternals "Karen" and "Piper" is already underway. That's why an Eternals cameo in Endgame makes more sense than an X-Men or FF one.

But they didn't have to do that for Guardians of the Galaxy. The Captain Marvel tease in IW is also a set up for Endgame. And also, as I said before, they gave up the idea of having Beta Ray Bill in IW because they felt there wasn't enough time to introduce him properly. And that's actually what is so great about Marvel, how they respect their characters.

Endgame will be a very, very crowded movie. Even more crowded than IW. And Marvel likes to take enough time to introduce their characters properly. That's why I don't see them in Endgame.

I don't think they're limited in any way by the schedule. If we haven't heard anything by the next earnings call, there may be some news there, but I don't think they'll hesitate to schedule a press conference and announce it when they're ready.

The closing date is more an investor and public communication thing than it is marketing, and if they intentionally delay either the announcement or closing itself just for publicity, I think some investors (who have a lot of money riding on this) would rightfully complain. The sooner they can close the better for people who have millions invested in either Fox or Disney.

In terms of actual film announcements, they have complete freedom to do those however they choose. And in that case, we probably will be waiting for a Comic Con or D23 to see them flash a 4 or X logo.

The DOJ confirmation is something that definitely slipped my mind. With this being done in the year or year and a half that it will be (rather than the decade or more otherwise), it's easy for us to take for granted how many moving parts there are to this.

I had completely forgotten that it happened that way- thanks for the reminder! I suppose it could happen this way with Fox, but with the deal being different than Sony, I suspect they'll make a bigger... er... deal out of it.

That's an interesting angle that I didn't think of- the whole investor and public communication vs. marketing aspect. I guess it's good for everyone that this gets done as soon as possible!
