The Rebooted "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) Thread - Part 8

Yeah, I cannot see any X-Men "merger". Not ever. A clean from-scratch reboot, *maybe*, but never a merger.

( Well, except Deadpool. I don't think anybody would mind him merging into the MCU. Even if it made no sense. Especially if it made no sense. )

There's a difference between saying "I think Marvel has the rights" and "I know they don't".

Thank you

I never claimed I had proof or any sort of insider knowledge.

Yes. Which makes it just as ridiculous for folks to assume things like "I think they have them back already" or that if they were Marvel and had the rights, they wouldn't say anything.

So there's just as much an argument for saying we don't know as there is to pointless speculation when, as you said, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

So what is it you're proposing to us, ridiculous participants? Don't discuss anything at all, because we don't have any hard facts one way or another?

The only way I could see an MCU/ X-Men crossover working without affecting each of their respective continuities and without it feeling like it's just added on is to adapt the original Secret Wars. The Beyonder could bring both sets of characters to the Battleworld where, in this adaptation, he could have plucked them from different realities for a cataclysmic battle.

There would be no issue of why no-one on earth has heard of the other or treats the other group differently because it wouldn't even be set on earth. You could also potentially have characters from different time periods too, or even alternate versions of characters.

They would still be able to return to their continuities unaffected afterwards.

That's why I want it. An alternate universe is the only way to get the Avengers and X-Men on the same screen. It also allows characters like a young Hank Pym to exist in the MCU and gets all the X-Men characters on Fox's side into one era. It's a near perfect solution so long as Marvel and Fox are willing to work together.

I figure Marvel will announce its Phase Four line-up sometime next year. Hopefully FF fans only have to get through one more year of uncertainty.

FF fans shouldn't hold their breath. That way if it ever does happen, it will be better. All the times they were constantly hoping it would happen didn't turn out in their favor.

Good advice.

I will give an example. Samurai Jack is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. After the show ended, I was crushed. There was always talk of some sort of feature movie and there were even numerous stories of a feature length movie in the works. This went on and off for years only for the movie to never materialize.

After a while, creator Genndy Tartakovsky moved on to other projects. While no one ever completely closed the door on Samurai Jack, it looked firmly in the rearview mirror. I'd always hoped we could get an actual conclusion to the story someday, but I stopped going crazy over it. Then out of the blue in 2015, over 10 years after the show was last on the air, they announce that Samurai Jack was coming back and it was a great surprise. There was no indication or suggestion this would happen at all.

So it took over 12 years, but we are finally getting new Samurai Jack again. To be honest, it got to a point where I probably thought I'd be long dead before new Samurai Jack came out. But it's finally happening.

I think in time eventually, this will be the case of Fantastic Four. I think ultimately everything's returning to Marvel. It could take months or it could take years, but it will all happen eventually.

I don't know if there are many folks holding their breath regarding the FF rights reversion. I know I am not. Discussing rumors regarding the FOX - Marvel relationship and the potential introduction of the FF into the MCU is no less healthy than the other silly conversations taking place in other threads. It's just part of being a fan.

The general thinking here as it has been for some time now is that the rights will revert at the deadline. I don't think anyone here believe FOX will attempt another film.

The "hope" that we all express is that it happens earlier than that so there could be potential setups leading into phase 4 with certain FF characters/villains. If it doesn't happen so be it. Life goes on as will the MCU. Its not like they don't have alternative plans.

That's exactly how I feel. At this point, I'm happy to wait them out - being nearly certain Marvel will get the rights in about five years at the latest.

If they get them sooner, great.

But every day that we don't get an announcement that Fox is going to make another crap film is one step closer to Marvel getting the rights one way or another.

The only one who really loses if this gets dragged out is Fox. They might have gotten something a year ago, but with each passing day, they're losing value to the point it will eventually be at zero.

The posts regarding what turned out to be the video game news say otherwise.

The posts regarding what turned out to be the video game news say otherwise.

There were two posts bemoaning the video game reveal. One was "I'm disappointed". The other post? - "bummer". What does the unhealthy obsession revealed in those emotionally raw reflections say to you?

You did this before, lying about other posts to position yourself as the voice of reason in a sea of unhinged fanatics. Your act is growing tiresome.

Plus, you'll die if you do that for too long.

I'm the one who said "Bummer" after saying, prior to the announcement:

I'd call it a 1 out of 1000 chance it's FF (film) related.

My "bummer" wasn't because it wasn't FF. I said "bummer" because I was hoping for Black Panther news or GOTG2 news or Inhumans News or FF returning to comics news ... or just about anything other than a video game because I don't play video games and have zero interest.

Except there's no lying. These are facts.

Except there's no lying. These are alternate facts.

Speaking as a survivor of the Bowling Green Massacre, let me personally commend you, Ms. Conway, for your willingness to stand as a beacon of truth during these challenging times.

Fox's Marvel dept shouldn't hold their breath in hopes of me (or other the growing amount of moviegoers who are getting tired of their mediocre crap) buying a ticket for their future films either so it balances out long term. :woot:

From what I've seen there's some who think the rights have already reverted, some who suspect they could have, and some who think they will before or with the next deadline. I don't think many expect Fox to try again, but stranger things have happened...

And when there is news of an announcement from Marvel the idea it could be FF related is a natural hope, but I for one would not expect it (least not for another year or so yet).

The bottom line is I don't think anyone has been certain in their respective position, ie: thinking they have reverted isn't the same as being sure they have. It's a thought/theory based on what we have seen occur over the last year or so since FFINO, which has seen Disney change tact quite considerably with Fox.

Personally I suspect the FF could have reverted in this time. The TV deal does open that up as a possibility for me. But I am not certain of anything.

So all we can do is watch what happens and wait for something that either adds weight to our thoughts and theories or diminishes them.On that score the longer there is no movement from Fox with the FF the better.

Yeah. I'm pretty much in that boat. We almost never know what's going on behind the scenes and we make guesses based on what is publicly known.

FF were my favorite SH group and I'd love to see Marvel do their consistently "mediocre crap" job of them as opposed to the almost unwatchable, disjointed, ill-conceived SH movies put out by a couple of other studios who must not be named (excepting a couple of X, Nolan, and Deadpool movies).

If people want to speak out of ignorance about how emotionally distraught others are about Marvel not (or probably not) having the FF rights without even knowing the person, let them blather on in peace. It's silly, without import, but well short of vile.

EDIT: The "growing amount of moviegoers who are getting tired of their mediocre crap" must have forgotten to stay home or been really bored or been coerced into going to the movies when Dr. Strange recently passed (or soon will pass) Man of Steel at the WW box office. Yes, that's right.....Superman will in all likelihood make less money than did Dr. Strange. They shouldn't have even been in the same area code as far as the box office numbers go.

It pains me that Fox still has the rights to cosmic characters like Silver Surfer and Galactus. They're not going to anything with them anytime soon... or at all, honestly.
