Actually if that number is correct, its tie for 5th widest release with HP7.2. BOM has Twilight: Eclipse, HP6, IM2, Shrek 4 ahead of it with TDK ranking 6th.
But in the end screen counts are more important.
TDK opened on 17 more screens than the Avengers, but the Avengers opened on 2,500 more screens.
Really? That's not what a few sites stated. One concluded a 175m opening while another called it at 169m.
He meant 17 more theaters.
#TDKR‬ will have the 3rd-widest opening ever, and could wind up breaking 'Twilight Saga: Eclipse's 4,468 theater record
The 4,375 is the theaters count and not the screens count, correct? What's the screens count then?
And the Hollywood exchange is estimating a $165m opening.
I think you guys expecting a 180m or 190m may be going a little to high. It will be a pleasant surprise tho if it happens.
I think WB should give everyone who has been registered here for five years or more 0.0001pc of profits.
Good idea, Regwec!
Now I'm the one that is obsessed!
t:Should be well over 10,000. DH2 was on 11,200 last year in July. Avengers was on 11,700 in May this year. Early May means zero competition, so it would be pretty surprising to me if TDKR ends up with a screen count as big as Avengers. TDKR is dealing with a Spider-Man movie that was released just 9 days ago and a brand new Ice Age movie being released this weekend. DH2's 11,200 screen count is probably WB's target.
Yeah right, lol. Like that would ever happen. It isn't fair though! I've stuck with Nolan and his Batman epic from the beginning like a lot of us here and have lurked the hype since 2001 and started posting in 2002.
With that said, Nolan's conclusion to his Batman story will be bittersweet for me. Batman Begins was the very last movie my older brother saw in theaters and it was with me. He was diagnosed with end stage liver cancer. He said that it was the best superhero movie he had ever seen. He left the theater happy with Begins and wouldn't stop gushing about everything from the characters, story, dialogue. He became obsessed with the score and wouldn't be quiet about the very end of Begins.
3 months later, he passed away at the age of 26Now I'm the one that is obsessed!

I'm excited for Rises and at the same time, I'll be thinking of my brother who waited all of his very short life to see the perfect rendition of Batman which Nolan presented with Begins! The only way I can thank him for that is by viewing Rises multiple times.
July 20th can't come soon enough!

Hmph. Once in a while, the superficial knock-about banter of the internet forum is pierced by something genuine that reaches right to the heart.Hmph. Once in a while, the superficial knock-about banter of the internet forum is pierced by something genuine that reaches right to the heart.
I am so sorry to hear about your brother. I hope that TDKR is just the film that he would have wanted.
Well that will definitely prevent any record breaking, however on the flip side that usually means a higher multiplier. Avengers looks like it will end up with a bit lower multiplier than TDK (around 3.0 vs TDK 3.35), because it had the opposite effect on it. There was no competition in may but now that's it's been out for 3 months it's lost enough screens that it cant make it to 650M, and will probably peter out between 620-630 unless they do a re-release.
Remember people were somewhat low-balling the avengers nobody predicted it would open above 200, and i think most predictions were around 160-170 range.
