We are seeing history unfold before our very eyes, people! :) Let's see how it ends up...I'll be so happy if the weekend take is greater than The Avengers

Variety is reporting that the estimated weekend box office for TDKR will top out at around $178 million. That would mean that Marvel's Avengers would maintain they weekend record.

Harry Potter got to $43 million with 3D,
I do believe it is possible that TDKR can match or possibly exceed it but, $52 million is a bit high .

It doesn't have to beat The Avengers ... I just want it to do WELL. I'm more of a "Team Marvel" person, but will I be upset of TDKR does better? If it's a great movie, I won't be upset at all!

I hate to pit movies against each other. Iron Man 1 was my favorite comic book movie of 2008, but I was FAR from being upset that The Dark Knight did as amazing as it did. If it's a good/great movie, I want it to do amazing enough that it tells Hollywood that the people still want GOOD movies like this. :)

People so far, at least this year, are speaking with their wallets in wanting their blockbuster movies to be good, not crappy like Battleship was.

No need to worry about that. This will do well. I'm sure there's a few execs at Warner that are pissed that the film wasn't 3D converted, because they've got shareholders to report to but F'em.

I think the studio is trying to put out some lower numbers because when they saw the attendance figures for the midnights and presales they knew they weren't going to get the 22-25% bump they needed to break the record.

Still if it's around 180M, that's an incredible showing.

With how NBC News was talking, they made it sound like presales and total attendance predictions were well above the initial estimate and that some movie theaters were seeing ticket scalping for the midnight showings. I've never heard of scalping at movies so either this movie will start real fast and peter out over the weekend or it's going to be a constant stream throughout.

Only reason to even scalp is IMAX 1570, other than that you would be a fool to buy it.

They were saying tickets were going for as high as $100 for the midnight opening. That's just insane or shear stupidity since even if you can't see it when it first opens, you could always come back in the afternoon or evening and watch it for a tenth of the scalping price. The movie is going to be in theaters for several months so it's not like it'll just go away after a day or two.

My theater was packed. Although in packed theaters you get that crappy body heat feeling going on...actually i think it was the film making me sweat.

my local theater had 18 showings for midnight all sold out ... it was like a traffic jam leaving...

Its reported that $30 mil advanced tickets had been sold a few hours before midnight. Some are expecting $35 mil for the midnight gross others say it has a shot to beat the record set by HP DH2. Too tired to post links right now lol.

please, if you have links I would really appreciate it. I'm trying to get some info on the BO but the Denver thing is all over

I can't wait to see this movie! Well my prediction is $190 million over the weekend in the states! I'm from london and I feel TDKR is gonna dominate all over the the UK too.

With reports that this has now already grossed 67 million worldwide... Yeah safe to say this is one for the record books.

EXCLUSIVE… FRIDAY 6:30 AM, 6TH UPDATE: I’ve just learned that Warner Bros‘ and Legendary Pictures‘ 2D The Dark Knight Rises is “headed north of $28M” for its 3,700 midnight showings of the pic.

Denver shooting: masked gunman kills 14 people at Batman premiere
BO-wise, I'm thinking this throws everyone's predictions out the window. The hardcore fans will still go, but walkups will definitely decrease. I mean, crowded movie theaters have always been hypothetical terrorist fodder, but this just hits way too close to home...

Not that it would have been different had it happened to another movie. :csad: I guess it doesn't matter - WB will still make bank (although it very well might not be Avengers-level now) and Chris Nolan will continue making films. But as a Batman fan, it hurts to have your favorite superhero (and your most anticipated Batman movie) have such a tragedy associated with it. :csad: And especially to fellow fans! Seriously, f*** psycho terrorists.

Yeah, this was supposed to be a great day for our fellow fans over there and thanks to this evil **** these innocent people have lost their lives. I kind of don't even want to think about the box office now although it would be good if it still performed well to show we won't let psychos beat us.

It will stop some people from seeing this film, but others will go and still see this film. This shooting has ruined the film somewhat. Im lucky I got to see it before the shootings, but how can you go and watch this film without thinking of those poor people who got killed. This has definitely killed the buzz for TDKR
