The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread III

It's annoying when these websites say Dark Knight will be Huuuge! only to add it will enjoy the second highest OW only after The Avengers.

For me, if the avengers ow is not broken, it's a loss. To come this far and lose by this peanuts of a margin is a waste of a great opportunity.

You have to understand though that The Avengers was always going to have the record. It's something that hasn't been done before and actually managed to do it right. It was a "perfect storm" and while I'm sure TDKR will be a potentially awesome movie, it's still just another movie. By that I mean other than the quality of the movie itself, there's nothing special about it (ie: Avatar's 3D, The Avengers' MCU, etc.). In fact, coming anywhere close to that record would be monumental because remember, TDK opened to 158M (A previous record) and we're sitting here calling 190M a disappointment?

Not a disappointment but certainly not a flawless victory.

You're not one of those guys that cheats on a test and feels smart when the results are announced, are you ? :oldrazz:

I will play it by the rules... It's not a fair fight? Then I will think of other means that will boost my chances. This is not cheating!

And I would stop paying for thousands of dollars per poster for advertising a movie that can't be advertised and instead use this money to boost ticket sales, theatre counts and screen counts.

That's how I would play it. I would destroy competition where it matters most to the competitor.

If rises steals ow from avengers, what is left for avengers to talk about? Nothing

Flawless victory

I disliked Avengers because of... Pretty much everything Joss Whedon was responsible for. But Marvel earned their money with the five great movies beforehand and pulling off what they did regardless.

TDKR holds 4 of the top 5 spots on Fandango's Pulse (real-time ticket sales in the US).

1. TDKR
2. TDKR: IMAX
3. AMC's TDKR Trilogy
4. (Ted)
5. Regal's TDKR Marathon

You have quite a vendetta against the Avengers don't you? :woot:

...I thought we were supposed to avoid TA vs TDKR kinds of discussions...?

I think Rises has a shot at breaking HP's single/opening day record of $91 Million. Given how there were less IMAX screens (LieMAX included) we should expect a bigger midnight opening.

Realistically: $25-$35 Million

Long Shot: $40-$50 Million

I was just stating that he seems to really want this film to break the OW record or he would be devastated.

I for one, enjoyed the heck out of Avengers and consider it a great privilege that this summer is going to have that film AND Dark Knight Rises released. Great time to be a fan.

Back on topic, just judging by interest around my area....everyone...even non-Bat fans are dying to see this movie. This thing is huge...and I can see it being bigger than anyone expects.

If you work in a movie theater...may god have mercy on you this weekend.

I'm pretty sure HP's opening day is done.

Well, you know how it is, Ms Anita. You're out at night, looking for kicks, someone's passing around the weaponized hallucinogens.

But dude, it's really not a loss because Avengers not only had 3D ticket prices but also IMAX 3D prices. So in truth, it's not even a "fair fight" and anyone who thinks so is an idiot.

Still, if TDKR somehow does come out on top, it will be quite the achievement.

TDKR is a summer movie though. It can make more money early on Friday than Avengers during the school year. I think that fact is being forgotten.

And it is also the end of summer... kids/families doing a lot before school year starts. might now seem like much, but it is a pretty strong factor.

There will be a ton of teens and kids at TDKR midnight showings too. Avengers had a disadvantage with that.

These movies will both make huge money. Its really going to be splitting hairs in regards to box office and reviews.

I'm just glad that all 3, Spidey, TA and TDKR... theres a possible 3.8-4 BILLION dollars.

This is the final movie of the summer for moviegoers to really get their money's worth. Hopefully that translates to a record opening. It really needs to have a colossal opening day to have any realistic chance of crossing $200 million and under 40% drops.

I'm predicting a 291M opening weekend. Just remember I called it.

:wow:

Don't even think theater chains could handle that amount of business.

Lol don't think that feat is possible because of the run time of the movie. A more long shot realistic guess would be $250M as the SHH poll suggested.
