The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR Box Office Thread V

I saw it for the fifth time yesterday(and probably last until it comes out on Blu-ray), so I contributed to the cause. It's great to see two Batman films in the top 10 domestically. I never thought that TDKR would be as big as TDK, but I was proven wrong. Congrats to Christopher Nolan and all involved.

Predicting “worse than TDK” has an odd connotation - as if $825M or so (Inception’s #) represents bomb/disappointment. I admit that I didn’t think TDKR would do as well as its predecessor. :cwink: This is proving to be the case for its domestic take. Moreover, the pattern for BB/TDK was in the range of a 55%/45% domestic/foreign split. But as it happened, that pattern was reversed for TDKR.

Interesting, many thought that the split between the Domestic collections / Overseas collections to be like 55 % / 45 % judging from BB and TDK pattern.

Considering the old pattern,

Domestic collections now - 431 mil.

If we assume that to be 55 % and then calculate the remaining 45 % (which we will assume to be the overseas collection), then using the old estimates, the gross worldwide would be as -

Domestic: 431 mil. (55 %)
Overseas:352 mil. (45 %)
-----------------
Worldwide:783 mil.

which falls short of 1 billion. :csad:

But that is thing of past as TDKR has earned more foreign markets now. :yay:

Congratulations to Mr. Nolan and the whole cast and crew of TDKR for the 1 bil worldwide mark!

And a gigantic, Galactus-sized middle finger to the trolls who´ll insist in doing olympic-level amounts of spin to call it some kind of disappointment.

Doubt anyone calls these numbers disappointing.

Give it time. I´ve seen HUGE BO hits being called underperforming or disappointing with some of the most ludicrous arguments even for internet standards.

As have I.

This is an epic win by any standard. Fact.

Great news ! :awesome:

Congrats to Nolan and Co.:applaud

At domestic chart, TDKR is now at 9th position.

At worldwide chart, TDKR is now at 12th position.

I think it can make it to 5 spot domestically and Worldwide it can most definitely make it into the top 10 records.

Nolan is only one of two directors to have two billion dollor grossing films on their resumes...

And looking at those charts, I could definitely see TDKR reaching the #7 spot on both(domestic and WW).

SO close to hitting top 10...yay!

How long did TDK stay in the WW top 10?

I would LOVE to know how the Nolan/Cameron convo went :woot:

Well, in a way, the #'s are disappointing and underwhelming given theres always a 'what if' because of the shootings... It didn't perform the way I expected, but thats not saying that the #'s aren't amazing.

Look at it this way. The Harry Potter movies had varying grosses at the BO, domestic and worldwide. Not always the next movie made more or as much as the last, but at the end it doesn´t really matter, cuz the overall franchise is highly successful. I doubt WB has any complaints, regardless of it making a little less in USA.

Plus, the shootings are an external event that has nothing to do with the audience appreciation of the movie. People who try to bring up the "underperforming" argument are usually trying to imply that it has to do with the movie being subpar in some way.

I'm sure they have zero complaints lol

Great achievement in reaching the billion mark no matter what in this day and age. A success in many ways, congrats to those that deserve it:up:

Its tracking to finish around $450 million mark at best. So for its initial run its gonna stop at #7.

It made 6,100,000 this weekend, it could easily go a bit past the $450 million mark.

Monday (9/3) Update: Warner Bros. is now estimating that The Dark Knight Rises has reached $577.7 million internationally. Add that to the estimated domestic total of $433.2 million, and the worldwide haul is sitting pretty at $1,010,900,000. 2008's The Dark Knight took in $1,001,921,825 worldwide.

In China, rough numbers indicate that The Dark Knight Rises has managed an outstanding seven-day opening gross of $31 million with 5.4 million admissions from 4,081 screens. Official numbers from China are due tomorrow. In Italy, TDKR made $9.1 million over five days.
