Surely everyone here would prefer it to be with Avengers.

There's going to be a DARK KNIGHT RISES trailer hitting cinemas very very soon. Had word that some cinemas have already received it.

Yeah, and that EW article about TDKR was released a couple of weeks before The Avengers hits theaters.

Movie content aside (because I believe Nolan has already done his part), I LOVE that The Avengers (and hopefully other more movies like Prometheus) is doing so well. It'll put pressure on WB to step up their game with TDRK's push/promotions. Even if TDKR is riding on TDK's hype, there is no reason for WB to slack and take TDKR for granted and I feel that the positive buzz for the other movies will make WB more determined to make sure that TDKR break some records. It helps too that TDKR is coming out last. It'll give them time to see which type of marketing works and which doesn't and where they need to focus.

Sadly there's this notion that:

Avengers = Good therefore TDKR = Bad

and the opposite. If Avengers does REALLY well, I assure you some Batfans will be shaking in their boots.

But there's no reason why! TDKR is already made it's not going to be any worse because of Avengers being good

It's all a matter of what film you like more: A fun, joyride or a Tonal, plot oriented film.

Depending on your personal preference it's going to decide which film is better for you. the SAME way Iron man and TDK went down.

This.

I want both films to do well. I'm a Batman fanatic, but I am not "Threatened" by The Avengers. I'll see both on day one.

No, that would not happen.

Typically, the final trailer for a potential blockbuster is the most hyped, and designed to at last show the overall plot of the film. Its the last shot to get the audience hyped for the film, and generate interest.

With TDKR, you are forgetting one very simple fact.

People WANT to see this film.

Yes, BB and TDK final trailers were with IM and IM2, but TDKR's situation is different. After TDK made over $1 billion worldwide, there are more expectations.

There is little need to generate more interest in this film - its already in place. All WB need to do is remind people of WHEN TDKR is released, and that's it. I bet you that the focus of marketing on TDKR is on the date, and the fact its the 'final' film.

The TDKR final trailer is that rare example - something that people are willing to PAY to see before everyone else. In a time when trailers come online for free ALL the time (See The Avengers final trailer), this is a big deal for WB. And its more likely that WB would rather make money for themselves than the competition.

Another reason why WB may avoid putting the trailer with The Avengers is to avoid competition. You mght disagree, but there is a risk that opinions of TDKR would change after watching TAs. Its better to avoid all that.

I would have to agree. I think WB is playing this smart. TDKR has the potential to reach unreasonable expectations (phantom menace/crystal skull), and to overhype it too early might have been fatal for its word of mouth.

It is seeming incredibly reminiscent of that.

That's assuming TDKR delivers the goods of course. Avengers has the upper hand right now because we all know it apparently turned out just as good as IM1 and possibly better. We simply don't know if TDKR is the second coming of TDK or SM3. There are certain elements of the film I'm concerned about, but I'm curious to see how Nolan pulls it all together.

I am down with the overhype thing.

The Hunger games was on my to-see list, but it was everywhere, and I got turned off from it, and I just bailed on the movie and saw something else.

Now, This is Batman, so no amount of over saturation could make me miss a Bat flick.

But over saturation does hurt films.

I have very little doubt that Nolan has created another great film. Whether it will appeal to the mass audience in the way TDK did, that's the question.

Eh over-saturation can hurt, but it won't here, because there is nothing known about TDKR, very little by us hardcore fans, and almost zero with the general audience. But regardless its a huge blockbuster so they will advertise the hell out of it a few months before release. It always happens, and it will happen again.

It's funny. I'd say this is the real sequel to IM1 to some extent... not only was IM2 essentially a commercial for this, but Avengers focuses on fulfilling the promise of IM1's post-credit scene. It really is like 2008 all over again, only with it's two successors.

No, it's the same situation as it was in 2008.

None of us knew if TDK was going to be TDK or SM3 either. It could have gone either way.

Avengers is getting the same reaction as IM in 2008.

TDKR is being treated as if it's in trouble for some reason.

While TDKR could be SM3 it isn't. We have really great reasons to know this. The primary reason is that Chris Nolan is making this film.

If anyone one man at this time deserves our trust to deliver a good film it's Nolan. I'm not saying that he's not capable of failing, I'm saying that we ought to now start giving credit where credit is due.

The man has done us over very well the last couple of years and TDKR being good is not something I've got to see to believe.

It being bad is something I've got to see to believe.

There's legitimate reasons to premiere the trailer with both Avengers and Dark Shadows.

I'm thinking Avengers just based on history.

TDK Trailer 3: with Iron Man
Inception Trailer 3: with Iron Man 2

WB definitely isn't shy about showing their big tentpole trailer in front of Marvel's big tentpole film.

That said, neither outcome would surprise me. I'm starting to feel the buzz though...

i actually don't see the avengers vs TDKR thing. they're not in competition with one another. i even think that the success of avengers would benefit TDKR. if people think that the avengers was great, their anticipation for TDKR might be even bigger than before.

the avengers vs tdkr thing is just a fanboy pissing contest

I actually hope they go with Dark Shadows...

I know The Avengers will have the bigger audience, but we don't want TDKR in its shadow in anyway.
i will never understand this kind of thinking. i am just trying to understand it. a trailer is a video that promotes a movie. the trailer is of course before the movie that you payed the ticket. how is it in the shadows? its a trailer. .........to promote the movie.

This is true in a lot of ways (and not true in some) the fact of the matter is one comes out in the start of May, the other comes out the end of July...

That's entire lifetimes for some films.
