The Dark Knight Rises The TDKR General Discussion Thread - Part 127 (NO SPOILERS)

Keep in mind that a year and three months ago, the consensus was that the movie would be good, but on par with TDK. Not better than TDK. The reviews thus far have been overwhelmingly positive, which is more than was predicted back then.

That and the fact that this film is still sittin' pretty at an 85 on Metacritic is just . . .:wow:

85 MC is an illusion since we already know the Village Voice hated it. Plus we know Denby, Edelstein, and Zacharek will hate it. I expect a similar overall rating to BB of 70/100. Inception had a bunch of rave reviews, but a number of MC critics who absolutely couldn't stand the movie. So it evened out to 74/100 in the end. This seems to be trending in the same direction, except there aren't as many raves for this one as there were for Inception so that's why I think the 70/100 of BB is more likely.

Okay, a serious matter needs to be addressed...

When is everyone taking their last drink before the movie starts? 6 hours before? 4 hours before? I'm not taking a pee during this film.

We should only worry about the reviews if the average rating drops. Right now it's 8.7/10. It's pretty rare to get an 8/10 average rating on RT, but one that high is very difficult to get.

Its weird though. Reading through some of the critic blurbs on RT, youd think some of the reviewers were just barely calling it fresh.

That sucks lol

Most likely.

I'll relish in this moment while it lasts :yay:

Its mostly cuz of the length n the bane comparisons to the joker

I'm a man, so I'll be drinking throughout the movie.

That's because some of them are. If you don't put an a numerical rating on your review, it doesn't count towards the RT average. There are quite a few negatives on there that don't have numerical ratings and aren't being counted in the average rating. But there are a few raves as well that aren't being counted (Time Magazine, Hollywood Reporter, Variety).

I only read 1 or 2 that came across like that. The rest are all gushing adoring blurbs.

RT just added Garry Maddox's (Sydney Morning Herald) positive review of TDKR.

The newest positive review didn't like the movie very much, but gave it a fresh rating. He basically said it feel short of TDK for him, but deserves a fresh rating because it's still a good movie when looking at the context of the film alone. *Something these critics need to do more often

It's not the length, it's the bloat.
That's what I'm seeing. Not that it's too long, but that it is flabby.

I do note a lot of the Joker talk, but that's fairly universal. Most of the positive reviews mention the noticeable absence just as much as the more critical reviews.

Since when is 86% considered bad? I don't get it, the embargoed lifted 2 days ago. Hundreds of reviews aren't on that site yet.

Yup. The perception would be very different had the embargo been lifted a week ago.

I'm joking about the drinks thing, but then again I'm not. I have a weak bladder and I'll probably not have a sip of anything past 6 p.m. that night. Or I'll take a pee during Bale's Emo street dance down the streets of Gotham. Ooops spoiler.

The way I see it is they most critics realize that this is a huge movie , probably biggest of the year, from an acclaimed director, and its been praised with early oscar talk, so they know more people will be following their reveiws so they must be extra critical of it so they can justify their jobs!

We all need to have some perspective about these few negative reviews rolling in. So I'll just leave this here so you can all stop taking for granted how lucky we are.

I don't think he/she means it's bad, it just we all hope it to be 95% to 100%, with all the Hype. I myself thought it would be 95%+ until at least 200 Reviewers. 86% after 30-40 reviewer is the shocker.
