Blake actually taking on The Batman persona brings it back to being this elemental, unstoppable force. Not even a nuclear bomb could stop The Batman.

That's the only thing I actually loved about the ending: the suggestion that the mission will outlive any one man, and that the urban myth element of the character could potentially be reclaimed through it's endurance.

What I like about it is that Batman is potentially obsolete since he did accomplished what he set out to do, inspire people. In BB, the police were corrupt, in TDK, they were scared and in TDKR they finally stood up to reclaim their city.

I couldn't care less if Cronenberg doesn't like Nolan's Batman films but his comments are ignorant... and disappointing. This is the second time that he's disappointed me this summer - the first being that wankfest Cosmopolis.

Blake isn't the new Batman. He is Batman's successor. Batman is dead.

I favor the notion that Blake takes on a persona similar to Batman but not exactly the same as Batman. Gotham built a statue for Batman. If someone dresses up exactly like him, it lessens the memorial's meaning in my opinion. But if someone keeps the spirit of Batman's mission alive, even by dressing similarly, using the same gadgets, etc., that preserves the Batman legacy enough.

It doesn't matter if the Bat symbol is still used. That's a reminder to Gotham that someone is continuing what Batman started. The symbol need not be different if Robin is Nightwing or another persona.

Some people are taking these things too literally as a Venn diagram without any intersection.

The blue (or maybe red in this case) pattern lines up on the back of his suit like a V and when it leads to the chest, it meets up with a blue bat symbol. I think the symbol will be infinite one way or another & Robin can still use it. It could show the people that he's somebody they can cheer because he's a son of the Batmans methods. The bat-signal will still be used as a symbol for hope and for Gordon to get Robins attention.

Yes, but if anything TDKR shows us that one form of corruption will be replaced by another (the mob is surpassed by big business) and that the systems within which good men are asked to operate will become stifling to their natural instincts. Gordon acknowledges it to Blake. Blake realises it as a truth which is why he throws away his badge. The feeling I was left with is that there will always be a need for someone outside the system.

As for the people being inspired, there wasn't enough focus on the general populace to determine that. The final battle was nothing but police and mercs... If Nolan wanted to show that Batman was ultimately no longer needed then I'd have hoped for a greater focus on the input of normal citizens throughout the city.

This is how I feel.

The only Batman related stuff I believe should be using part of his suit (the chest as body armour), a few gadgets and the batcave as a hideout/investigation centre. Other than that he should be his own beast IMO sticking purely to the shadows and avoiding direct confrontations with 6 men at a time as he doesn't have the training.

He should just be a cop IMO that works outside the law doing stuff the police can't do but uses Batman's stuff to help him. I don't want him to be Batman because he can he should be his own thing.

I use to be on NF all the time, but left because of an increasing number of *****ebags that came and took over. Trust me, many of them have seen Cronenberg films. There's a couple of big Cronenberg fans there. I wonder what they would say about this. Most people on NF would take this very personal, but I guess that's how any fan site is.

So guys, what would you like to happen with the Batman movie franchise in the future? Reboot, some sort of continuation or something else?
I kinda cannot choose right now. I really, really love TDKR and the way it ended and I don't really want to see somebody make a continuation... It will somehow feel like disrespecting the trilogy. On the other hand, however, I absolutely love the cast and I don't really wanna see a new reboot. I love the realistic angle of the trilogy because it makes it so easy to connect and relate to the characters and the world they live in. That's what makes Nolanverse so great.
So as I see it, it is a no-win situation.
However, if absolutely have to choose... because let's face it, there will inevitably more Batman movies, I would love to see a new trilogy, for example one that is inspired by Nolanverse, but it somehow distinguishes itself from the trilogy. New cast is a must, because even if they only get Bale as Bruce, it will immediately be considered as the forth movie of the trilogy and that will fail a 100%. So, a new cast... new villains is a must for me as well (would love to see proper Ivy/Harley/Cat trio, Mr. Freeze, Killercroc, Zsasz, Penguin and Riddler. Night of the Owls might be a cool inspiration for a story arc as well. Would love to see a movie that treats the trilogy as canon, but it feels fresh and separated. The trilogy should remain a trilogy, but there are just way too many brilliant things for it to be fully neglected.
The story might be set somewhere between BB and TDK or just in some period of time that is not precisely clear. It should however be labelled something as The New Adventures of Batman or something (I know it sounds unbelievable lame, but it should somehow point out that those events have nothing to do with the trilogy, except that it treats the trilogy as canon).
Or... maybe the only win situation will be if Nolan gets back to direct a new trilogy with the same cast of characters for Bruce, Alfred, Gordon, Selina, Lucious... oh wait Selina can't be in it because it will be inconsistent with TDKR. Damn it. We need Selina!
Hah, even I am starting to get confused. However, with a great origin story such as BB another one will feel like a reboot and that's completely unnecessary in my opinion.
I think that it will all be decided when Man of Steel hits theaters. I can't even imagine a realistic story of Superman and I would hate to go back to unrealistic stories of Batman. I would really hate it if DC follows the Marvel pattern and tries to make a Justice League Avenger style movies.
But who knows, maybe Nolan and Snyder will amaze me and accomplish the impossible.

Guys I dont know about you, but I would rather see another Batman movie featuring JGL about him finding the cave, adapting to it, learning all his gadgets that Batman had, and basically becoming the new Batman. The villian would be the Riddler who would be a Zodiac, or Seven type killer who has kidnapped Commissioner Gordan, and has given him Riddles to try and find him and if he get a riddle wrong then a building would explode. This sounds alot better than a new Batman, or a Batman thats incorporated into the Justice League where he fights Aliens and Monsters. To be honest this is a bad time to be a Batman fan. We are borderline heading back to Schumacher territory!!!

I'd also love a JGL film. It's practically a clean slate for a comic book film. They can do whatever thay want with Blake.
