I don't see TDKR winning Best Picture either. It's just not gonna happen, in my opinion. Lincoln, The Master and Django Unchained are more likely to win, but I could definitely see TDKR getting a nomination.

I think it has a very strong chance to get nominated, but I think it has a zero chance of winning. Still, as others have said, this conversation wouldn't even be happening if it wasn't for TDK and it simply being nominated would be a huge accomplishment, so all things considered, A few big nominations and a few wins in smaller categories is fairly likely and would be pretty damn amazing.

...and Les Miserables. Hopefully. :yay:

I'd love to see Wally get another win. It's his last (as far as know) work as a cinematographer, and it's arguably his career best.

Something that has been confusing me everytime I see it is this moment -

We hear the President's "People of Gotham we have abandoned you" line then we have a scene with Gordon and Blake. Gordon says he wants to get infront of a camera but Blake insists that it is a bad and stupid thing to do and you are left with the impression that that is the end of it. However, in the next Gordon/Blake scene correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Blake say "We need to keep moving you so we can get you infront of a camera".... what? Did Gordon win him over with the idea in a scene we didn't see? Or did I mishear the dialogue...

I didn't really take the ending of that scene in the car to be a clearcut resolution to their argument. I think they were still unsure of what to do after that, and Gordon seemed willing to die if it meant getting Bane to show his "true colors" to the city, and potentially curtail whatever revolution he had planned. I think Gordon took note of Blake's point, but Gordon is still his superior and it's ultimately his call.

Why does Gordon need to be on camera anyway? To rally the people because he's the commissioner?

In the script the line is:

BLAKE
We’re gonna keep moving you, till
we can get you in front of a camera
-

I take it to mean they are on the same page and want to get Gordon in front of a camera and an audience when it can be accomplished with minimal risk to the Commissioner's life.

Does that make sense?

Sort of. It just seemed weird that in the scene prior Blake was saying it was stupid and they'll just kill him and how Bane isn't really giving it back to the people then the next scene he is all for it.

as much as i love wally... poor roger deakins has 9 nominations to his belt and no win. It would be great if he wins it for skyfall.

It still probably would have been a good idea to have Gordon rally the people in theory, until Bane uses Gordon's lie as a weapon. Remember, at this point they don't know what he's after. As far as they know, it's all about the revolution at that point and he's just using the bomb to hold Gotham hostage. They don't know it's a suicide mission and that the bomb will inevitably go off yet.

Doesn't the President actually say "People of Gotham we have NOT abandoned you" ? At least that's what I heard. It would sound a bit cruel if they told them that they have abandoned them.

Yes it is "not" just forgot to type it :D

Rotten Tomatoes -
TDKR - 87% (279 reviews)
The Avengers - 92% (281 reviews)

TDK is rated higher than both.

That's misleading

Metacritic is a closer depiction. Rotten tomatoes doesn't take into account HOW good the rating is. a 7/10 is the same as a 10/10 (counts as a fresh). And a 1/10 is just as bad as a 5/10 (rotten).

On Metacritic
TDKR = 78%
Avengers = 69%

(TDK was 82%)

Also in terms of general audience ratings, IMDB is as good an indicator as any.

TDKR = #21 of all time on IMDB top 250 (284k votes)
Avengers = #65 of all time (302k votes)

TDK = #8 of all time (767k votes)

Good point completely forgot about Metacritic and how 5/10 is the same as a 1/10. RT still need to sort out some scores I believe as a 7/10 is listed as rotten somehow I think.

Let's get this out of the way: TDKR is not winning Best Picture. There are too many "Oscar-Friendly" films coming out that have too much potential. One of them is bound to live-up to the hype and be the Oscar darling. I've seen The Master and its incredible. That or Lincoln will be a much easier pick for The Academy. Its nothing against TDKR. I love it and it'll probably be my personal favorite of the year, but this is not a good year for it's Oscar Chances.

For a comic book film to win Best Picture a lot of things need to happen:

1. The comic film has to have near universal acclaim.
2. It has to have someone the Academy respects attached to it.
3. It has to be a very weak year for films.
4. None of the "Oscar-Bait" films can live up to their hype.

Now don't get me wrong, I doubt TDKR would win either, but it's that recognition that I want for TDKR to be nominated.

Critics liked Avengers better than TDKR?

Not really.

the idea of Gordon was get in front of the camera so he could "unmask" Bane and his false speech about people getting their city (instrument of liberation), but he didn't count on Bane unmasking him...

I understand the point of him getting infront of the camera I was just confused at how Blake in the car seemed very much against it but then in the next scene he seemed fine with it.

From what I've heard, the submitting critic gets to choose whether their review is listed as positive or negative.

I think if there ever was a Batman movie that could have won the Oscars, it would have been TDK.

The academy is really fickle. I don't think a movie like the hurt locker should have won a best picture for example.

In 2012 if you stacked those 2 films toghether you'd probably even have a lot of critics proclaiming TDK to be the better film. Yet it wasn't even nominated.

Well... at least some of the cast (the females in particular) will represent the movie come Oscars time. Anne is a lock for a Best Supporting Actress nod (and is the favorite to win) for Les Miserables and if pushed properly, Marion has a good shot of getting a Best Actress nod for Rust and Bone.

Nominations for Best Picture and Directing for Nolan are possible.

I think Caine for Supporting Actor is a long shot but I am throwing it out there. Whenever he is on screen TDKR becomes the most emotional of the trilogy, (even when he doesn't say a word...like in the Italian cafe at the very end). Dude can act.

A Best Picture nomination would be awesome.
